Thanks for the "Whopper Jawed(sp)"!!!!!! It's been a long time since I heard that from someone. Usually those Tranes check for open pressure switch, ramp up the motor to prove low and then high switches close(some will ramp down to open switches and then ramp back over high switch close), fire in high and then drop down into low fire(depending on the call, W1/2 and stat set up). Trans has also made it so if the board or inducer is bad you get a complete kit to replace board, inducer, hsi, wiring harness.

The inducer motor stepping up in speed is normal to over come the pressure switch activation, you will see that often with longer flue piping on these model furnaces(good call on double checking the pressure switch wiring to make sure that was correct). Also the three flash on the control board is a general code stating that the pressure swithch didnt activate(could also be a falure but needs to be checked with a meter on the switch itself to see if the switch is closing). It will flash code three if the pressure switch didnt close, in this case the inducer motor didint run(because it was failed/unhooked) and the pressure switch didnt close and the board threw a code saying the pressure switch failure. Furnace 2: inducer motor started and activated the ignitor but there seemed to be no gas valve activation(couldnt hear it activate on video) and the furnace went into purge mode after the burners didnt fire and flame wasnt sensed. Could be a gas valve problem or board problem, should be checked with a meter to know for sure. I understand that not everything may be in the video so writing my observation based on the video. Happy New Year!

You got to be careful with twins. I’ve seen several where one fan wasn’t running and the other was and the air just short cycles around and around and around gets too hot. They almost need Backdraft damper on top of the furnaces.

Too bad you’re left to deal with a no heat in a situation where the furnaces have been misapplied. Trane never allowed furnaces with VS fans to be twinned. I’ve never seen a relay setup like that. Trane uses a heat pump thermostat with outdoor temperature sensor to control add-on to fossil fuel installations. Needs a complete do-over. Thanks for the video…happy new year.

I blow the trap out and clean the flame sensor usually every year and check the burners. The heat pump has a dual thermometer stuck in the plenum to watch the delta Tee for problems. Thanks Troy! Have a great night!!
@philipstachyra3 жыл бұрын
If you are dealing with a pressure switch fault you should throw a manometer on to verify that you have correct pressure in the first place.
@philipstachyra3 жыл бұрын
That applies to the furnace that the venter comes on and keeps stepping up. Many modulating furnaces have a calibration that is dependent on when the pressure switch closes.
@HVACRSurvival3 жыл бұрын
The first furnace wouldn't run at all so there was no sense of getting a manometer out for that one, the second one dropped out on no code at all. Otherwise yes I would of used a manometer

Wonder why there was a twin terminal on the vs models if they didn't intend for it to be twinned?
@georgeian32433 жыл бұрын
@@ianpalmer1482 The two-stage VS boards do not have a twin terminal, you might be thinking of the two-stage models with PSC motors. The main function of the twin terminal is to interlock the PSC blowers so they start together and run at the same speed.
@HVACRSurvival3 жыл бұрын
The thermostat was a Honeywell 8000 dual fuel thermostat with a out door sensor. (Had Trane Label). The terminal said twin on the control board?, and that was a ECM control board? You might be right but this has been in for a long time now. They wont replace it until it dies. Thanks for the info!!
@georgeian32433 жыл бұрын
@@HVACRSurvival After reading Ian Palmer’s comment, I took another look at the video and yes, those units are two-stage with PSC blowers so they can be twinned. However, in my 18 years of experience with Trane, I never saw units twinned with heat pumps in our market of southern Ontario. Twinned with AC, yes. Sometimes you’d see two identical 100K units twinned with one 5 ton AC or a commercial 6 ton, something like that. The fact that no one other than the original installer has any idea what’s going on there is beyond ridiculous. Looks like the furnaces have been leaking condensate, maybe you’ve got a cracked plastic cold header or draft inducer square to round transition.
@georgeian32433 жыл бұрын
It’s coming back to me now. When using a 2H/1C stat, for example, you’d connect the twin terminals together and W1 to W1 on the twinned unit and likewise with W2. However, if current in the thermostat circuit was greater than the stat could handle, isolating relays across W1 and W2 were required. But in a heat pump application, can’t find any info. Hope this helps a bit.

There is nothing wrong with 85% of all furnaces if they are installed right.
