Condensate drains may be a little boring to talk about, but they account for the most expensive repairs to buildings that we can mostly prevent. When the ceiling damage is caused by our neglect, the amount of money the company has to spend is incredible. In my 45 years, I have heard & seen many different horror stories about ceilings falling in babies rooms, treasured family heirlooms being ruined by water and more. Just like anything else we do in HVAC, the details matter. Be the geek on your team that sweats the details. Be different....care about YOUR quality.

You’re absolutely correct. I’ve seen some EXPENSIVE “whoopsies” in regard to water transfer. Could’ve all been avoided if people paid more attention to detail

You can vent the condensate drain when it drains into sanitary sewer, just run the condensate drain vent into a sanitary vent.

It's amazing how many different condensate drain details I've come across on the engineering side. Seems like everyone has "their own" which don't always make sense. Thanks for the vid. Are you in Jamaica or something?

I ran into a situation yesterday, and a question occurred to me. This video popped up in my feed this morning. My question is why do not HVAC residential installers, specifically referring to apartment building installs, install the trap with two fittings??? I notice that some times the building drain may not be conveniently located in the wall cavity; and the evap drain line is routed over to the building drain line. The issues with these long runs: The HVAC drain brush that is sold is only like 12 inches, Snakes are made long enough, but they don't navigate any 90s after the first 90 bend very well. So, is there a reason we don't make the traps removable for service??????

How do you know if the drain drain line has a trap already if you can’t see the trap under ground

If you have a system under a negative pressure but do not have enough space to add or install p-trap what other method or methods could work?😊

Put the trap outside. I do all the time.

@@cadamham I'll have to try to find where terminates it's a condo where the drain line goes into a wall, but can't find where it terminates
