Come join us as we visit Hvar, Croatia in this travel guide covering 10 things to do in Hvar including top attractions and food experiences. The city of Hvar (Grad Hvar - Lesina) is located on Hvar Island and is easy to reach via Split. Visiting in the off-season meant many businesses were starting to close; however, we had many moments wandering around where we felt like we had Hvar to ourselves. Aside from some rainy days we made the most of our sunny days in Hvar exploring as much as we could by foot.

Our visit Hvar travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Croatian), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting churches, parks, the old town, quirky neighborhoods, fortresses, museums, observation points, ruins and the harbor. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Hvar tourism brochure, Hvar itinerary or Hvar, Croatia city tour also known as Grad Hvar, Hrvatska (Lesina).
10 Things to do in Hvar, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
We have finally made it to one of my dream destinations. We're in Hvar, Croatia so and oh my it is beautiful. Today we have blue skies so we're just going to run around like crazy to show you guys Hvar.
As you probably already know, we never start sightseeing without a good meal, so the first item on our list was to find some breakfast. This proved to be a little tricky considering we were visiting during low season, but after a few false starts we settled down at BB Club for shakshuka, omelettes, nutella crepes and cappuccinos.
With bellies full, we were ready explore and our eyes were set on the fortress, which is the focal point when you gaze up from the Old Town.
Reaching the fortress means walking straight uphill, but there are a few scenic stops along the way, including a beautiful park, a seemingly abandoned church, and plenty of lookouts where you can admire the town and the harbour.
After visiting the fort, we came back to the Old Town and decided to go on a little walk along the waterfront. We hadn’t packed any bathing suits and it was too late in the season to go for a swim, but Audrey was set on testing out the turquoise waters.
Continuing our wander through Hvar Town without a particular place or direction in mind, we then came across a medieval Venetian bell tower that we had noticed peeking through the buildings. The bell tower is part of the Ruins of the Dominican Monastery and St. Mark's Church, and while the structure is closed off, it’s still a cool landmark to visit.
We went to KOGO which is located in the main square just footsteps from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. They specialize in pizzas and pastas, and everything was so tasty!
Lastly, to finish up our 1-day tour of Hvar Town, we walked back to the marina, this time heading left in the direction of the Franciscan Monastery, where we were treated to a magical sunset complete with live music.

I stayed at a fabulous apartment hotel in Split called Divota Apartment Hotel. Highly recommend it as it's inexpensive and only minutes to the Diocletian Palace. The bus ride down the coast from Split to Dubrovnik is one of the gems of Croatia. I don't usually enjoy bus rides and hardly noticed the 4 hour trip. Try to sit on the right side of the bus to get the best views. Have a great time there!

Naughty Samuel and Audrey, you've been to.Hvar island but you didn't visit Stari Grad,"Old Town",the oldest town in the island, founded by the Greeks from the island of Pharos in 380 BC,my Croatians forebears, who arrived in the island around 700 AD, mispronounced it "hvar". Stari Grad is the hometown of my grandparents on my mother's side.My father was from nearby Vrbanj. Saludos a Daniel, el tambien tiene que viajar a Hvar y comerse unas buenas čevapčice....''chevapchitse" ....con un buen vino dalmata. Abrazo criollo desde Sydney....

We just love Croatia... Hvar is nice, but then, what in Croatia is not? Some info about Hvar Island, and Hvar town... this video is from 2017, and I'm watching it green with envy because of this new semi lockdown, after the pandemic was supposedly over, thinking we should've been in Croatia right now. We normally are there from mid or late May until the end of June, so it is not empty but not crowded either, especially the touristy places like Hvar, Split, Dubrovnik, etc... The locals tell me Hvar's population is 4,000, but in high season it easily goes up to 20,000!!! and Hvar has displaced other European beaches that were very popular with the jet set. If you watch some of your videos, in the fortress and in many other places, you see a winged lion with his paw over a book... that's the symbol of St Mark the Evangelist, Saint Patron of Venice, and since Hvar and many other towns in Croatia were under Venetian rule, their symbol is still everywhere. Hvar is I think the 5th largest Croatian island, and the longest at 65 kms from end to end... when you are there again, make sure you also go to the other towns, like Stari Grad, the oldest town in the island, and the one where the real ferry goes to, and if you're there in the spring, don't miss going to the lavender fields. The first inhabitants in the island were the Ilirians, then the Greeks, Romans, etc... and the name Hvar comes from the greek word Pharus, or lighthouse... the Hv sounds like a spanish "F" or english "Ph"... so the island's name is almost "Far"... the reason is the lighthouse in one of the little islands that guard the entrance to the town... those islands are called "Islas del Diablo", but apparently that is a mistake given a problem with a translation, but those small islands sure made some enemy ships go visit the devil back in the day. The Franciscan monastery has an interesting museum, and there are some beautiful stories of those who went to the Battle of Lepanto, including a ship from Hvar... those stories are immortalized in songs like Podiglo se malo četovanje or Zelena naranča... also, the Benedictin Nuns Convent still in operation has (or had) an agave plant that the Spanish architects who fixed the fortress brought from Mexico. The nuns learned how to make a yarn from the agave, and created exquisite crochet pieces that are very unique... I guess you are still in some kind of quarentine, and hope you are fine and especially, safe.

Thanks for all of the background information! Hope you can go back again soon. Yeah, we just loved our time in Croatia. From the food to the culture to the laidback pace of life it just resonated with us totally. That is great to hear it isn't so busy in May. The weather would be warmer than when we visited in late fall.

Pharos was the Greek island from where the Greek colonisers ( or invaders if you were an Illirian) who founded the town of Pharos/now Stari Grad came from. Mi mother's parents, Vranjican-Milacić emigrated to Atgentina from Stari Grad in 1901, where my mother and I were born, since 1980 I live with my wife in Australia. My father, Tomas Buratović, emigrated also to Argentina in 1925 from the nearby town of Vrbanj. The agricultural plains between Stari Grad, Vrbanj, and Jelsa, still maintains many of the original demarcations from the original blocks of land first cultivated by the Greeks in 380 BC. Then the Romans came and built villas in those plains, then my forebears who arrived at around 700 AD, used the stones from the ruins to build some of the walls you may see if you travel on the dirt road which goes from Stari Grad to Jelsa. Stari Grad is the birth town of the XVI century writer Petar Hektorović, who wrote a story in verse abouth a fishing trip around Stari Grad with two fishermen who were not aristocrats as he was,but town working people as my own. If you are interested, there is a bilingual ancient Croatian/English version translated by Edward D.Goy, edited by Bašćina.the book is titled: Fishing and Fishermen's Conversations / Ribanje i Ribarsko Prigovoranje By Petar Hektorović. Dobrodošli opet na Hvaru , Wellcome again to Hvar.

You are obviously very articulate and well-traveled and have a natural on-screen rapport that is very pleasant to watch but beyond that I am not sure about the usefulness of this or the rest of your Croatian videos for the following reasons: - Croatia is a summer destination through and through - you were there in the off season (not even in the low season) so you must have seen first-hand how many actual visitors it gets and, by extension, gauge the potential demand there would be for off-season reviews of this type and the level of their applicability when planning a summer vacation; - The prices you are quoting are off-season - it is not unusual for restaurants, especailly in ultra-touristy spots like Hvar, to hike their prices by up to 30% for the peak season; same goes for airbnbs; therefore, anyone planning their summer vacation cannot use those figures even as a ballpark; - Your recommendations appear random/obvious - example, "there is a fortress overlooking Hvar - go see it"; like that would otherwise not occur to someone staying in Hvar; at the same time, for instance, you are unaware that the Adriana hotel has a rooftop cafe with a great view of the port/main square - something that not all visitors know and take advantage of when it is open. I will also add a general comment that applies to KZbin cannels like yours - it appears every destination you visit is just as "amazing" - if we rule out your are being disingenous then this would have to mean you are not very discerning travelers and is the latter not a critical skill for someone of your ilk?

12:30,That doesn't sound nothing like Croatian music. It's more like Gypsies music from srbia. Playing that specific music and playing that loud, to Croats is clearly provocation. 11:45,Now that is traditional Croatian song! Sorry guys,I don't want to spoil your excellent travel guide, but my blood starts to boil every time when I see how arrogant are those provocateurs!
