Always good to have more Aussies on board, cheers mate. It's a good little unit. If I had the space I'd get the 2HP floor one with the pleated filter, but for the moment this will serve. It's so compact I'll always be able to use it as a dedicated machine for the tablesaw even after I eventually upgrade. I am actually editing a shortend version of this video for Carbatec's channel now, then I can finally get onto some new stuff for my one ;)

And the efficiency of the cleanup! This is a nice starting point. Most people upgrade to a 2HP pretty quickly, but I'll give this a go for a while at least :)

Carbatec sells a switch to replace that one on the machine so it will work with the remotes. Dave Stanton has a video on switching it over. I have the 2HP model (which I wall mounted) and changed the switch myself. It was no dramas after watching Dave's video but obviously if you're not keen then get a sparky to install the switch.

I have a Record Power CamVac made right there in the U.K. and it replaced my 2hp traditional dust collector. It has basically the same CFM but about 10x the static pressure. When paired with a cyclone separator it will out perform a 5hp traditional dust collector.

While a new switch is much cleaner and nicer, I've had my dusty setup for the last 3+ years with a piece of scrapwood jammed into the 'ON' button. That way it is always enabled, and when I use the remote, the power will turn on/off as desired.

Great upgrade James. Looking forward to seeing how you bypass the switch issue, as thats the reason i never wall mounted my one. So my saw has the overhead guard with the additional dust collection. I hooked my shop vac to it at the same time and to be honest, only noticed a slight impovement in mess. There was actually better dust collection when i had the blade higher so the teeth are cutting in more of a downstroke (not always safe). The room filters are great, but only when the garage door is closed 😊
@FixitFingers
@FixitFingers 5 ай бұрын
Yes the best room filter is an open garage door. I have an air moniter and even if I sand with no vac attached and send the PPM2.5 into the red zone, with the garage door open it is safe to take the dust mask off in only a few minutes. However, for the sake of my neighbours I really should try to keep the door closed more often and this machine is the first step into allowing that. A cyclone will likely be next, then the room filter (and noise insulating the door) eventually :)

Nice one and about time! One tip with those plastic blast gates is to clean them out regularly as well. Over time, they will clog up in the corners inside and result in not closing 100%, which on a smaller unit will make (as you've seen) a dramatic difference. I'm in the process of making my own gates and swapping the plastic ones all out because of this issue.

I have the 2HP extractor, and i fitted a cyclone inline, and after weeks of dust extraction, my bag only has a tiny bit of dust in it. 99% goes into the cyclone. The science behind these, ( i know your a scientist ) is that it will always have suction, but it won't pick anything up, if there is no airflow. the filter needs to be kept free of dust to allow airflow. That's why vacuum cleaners don't work after a few minutes! Great machine, and a great job fitting it in there. Cheers Michael
@FixitFingers
@FixitFingers 5 ай бұрын
Cheers mate! Yeah cyclone is definitely on the cards soon so I don't have to empty that bag and can just use the filter brush to keep everything working well. There are a couple of cyclone options I am looking at, but the issue is the container. Think I might make my own so it can fit in the space I need it to :)

I liked that floor sweep part. pretty handy! The overall dust extractor will work good for bigger equipment like a planer. The grate is purely a liability saver. "We put the safety device on so if they remove it and hurt themselves it ain't our fault." If someone is seriously silly enough to hurt themselves in that way I don't think woodwork is a suitable hobby for them 😅

The unit looks very good mate and, very nicely installed. I reckon this unit would do the job in my space. What is the length of the duct tube? I was actually considering running a semi overhead duct that i could adapt and bring down to the bench when using smaller tools.
@FixitFingers
@FixitFingers 5 ай бұрын
That kit comes with 2x 3m lengths of flexible tube. The CTS and floor sweep are now about 4m from the extractor and it can lift the small dust no issues. Very large chips don't make the vertical rise so I think 4m is pretty much the reliable limit you'd want a machine from the unit. Using smooth pipes and a cyclone will assit and I may upgrade to those eventually but for the size I am happy with this guy as it is for now :)
@jackchapo2011
@jackchapo2011 5 ай бұрын
Cool. I reckon 1hp is the one for me. Apart from the table saw and the floor sweep you already sold me on, I want to run an overhead longer but slightly smaller diameter duct to service the thicknesser and to lay on the bench when using hand tools. I hope.🤔

I didn't come to the comment section to say the same thing, but I'm here now and it's been said, so I'll jump in too. If I accidently run mine with both gates closed you can actually see the whole thing sucking into itself. I'm just afraid of imploding the space time continuum or something, so now I check first! I also have similar remote switches and swear by them. Button A does the main extractor, Button B for the mitre saw/shop-vac/mini-cyclone thingy, and two remotes also work for the whole system. Makes things much more convenient. Nice work James!

How does it compare to the Ryobi shop vac in terms of suction and noise reduction?
@FixitFingers
@FixitFingers 5 ай бұрын
Noise in dB is almost identical... but to my ear the new one is quieter. I think it is lower frequency which helps. Suction, it is comparing apples to oranges. The new one is HVLP, (High volume, Low Pressure) whereas you shop vacs are HPLV (High pressure, Low Volume). They each have their uses, sanders for instance need the High Pressure to work properly whereas a planer thicknesser must run off a High Volume or get clogged. For table saws, you can go either route but most bigger dust generating machine need a HVLP system :) I hope that helps!

It's the smallest High Volume Low Pressure unit you can get so the 'suck' doesn't look too impressive but for a tablesaw it's enough. A 'standard' machine is 2HP, double the power, but also has a much bigger footprint which I can't fit in my shop. For most folks, a 2HP will be a better solution but when space is at a premium, this is superior to a shop vac :)
