Having worked in the US for about 14 years and India for 12, i would say the comparison is between apples and oranges. The work life balance in the USA is world's apart from that in India. People here have no sense of quality work at all. They are still the stereotyped managers who believe in quantity by working long hours with all gossip going on during the work hours.

My father just resigned mahindra home finance due to heavy work load he was working literally from 9AM to 10PM and sometimes 11PM, even on Sundays. There are theories on the upper level only like QWL is important and blah blah but the lower levels are in other hands and they just want to get their work done. The top leaderships should be in regular touch with lower levels and should tell them to follow their ideology what company wants. I have huge respect for Anand Mahindra sir

Work should be only for 6 hours a day and 5 days a week. In the company there should be 4 shifts of 6 hours each. In this way work would be continuously going on and also many people would get jobs as unemployment problem has become much in our country.

Tho, the feudal mindset of the past still lingers in India's work places. The company pays the Employees so they are wholly bound to the company & must work as bosses / company demands . Whereas employees bring skills to the table for which a company pays . It's essentially a partnership with a shared purpose of helping the business do well.

Infosys is a particularly egregious case, though Narayan Murthy behaves as though he is some sort of a modern-day saint. It employs a vast army of cyber collies, and the ESOPS are shared with a precious few, especially the founding group who have become billionaires on the backs of hundreds of skilled coolies. Now they feel they should preach the virtues of hard work.
