This is lovely and enjoyable to watch you paint. You did a good job of explaining the differences in regular acrylics and OPEN. I attended an excellent, free Golden demo where the presenter explained how to use all their products.

Thanks Lindsay!! I struggled with acrylics for what seems a lifetime ago now ... and finally switched to the Genesis Heat Set Colours (performs like traditional oils but requires heat setting) and then discovered watercolours so felt content with both of those mediums. Then I branched out a bit with mixed media. I have the Golden Fluid Acrylics and love those for their specific purpose but I had no idea these Golden open acrylics even existed! I will have to get some to play with. (Its not like i need ONE more thing in this studio!! I'm putting you in the dangerous zone for your enabling. LOL)

Hi Lindsay! I'm glad you tried the Open Acrylics. I've all but given up on acrylic painting in the recent months. I am not happy about how fast they dry. But I didn't want to try the Opens because I had heard people say that they took FOREVER to dry! I had thought of trying oils.. but I really wasn't thrilled about buying all new supplies for a new medium either. So, I'm very interested in what you did, with mixing both heavy bodied and opens together! You did a lovely little painting here. Yes.. please critique these open acrylics when you get the time. TFS!

Gosh I really enjoyed watching you. I was crocheting and had KZbin on to keep me company and I stopped the video after a couple of minutes, made a cup of tea and started it again. I have great admiration for artist (used to love watching Ross) but it’s never been one of my many hobbies, but I can really appropriate your talent and although I know nothing (John Snow) doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy your explanations. Thank you. Bye for now 💁🏼♀️

Enjoyed your video as usual! Unfortunately I live in Colorado and even with the slow drying acrylics, it’s a struggle with rapid drying. It becomes frustrating and can take the fun out it. Have tried different mediums which help some, but still a challenge. Thanks for sharing!

I tell myself that if I ever pick back up acrylics I'll try the Golden Open's, but I've still been concerned about just what the dry time is like. This discussion has really helped me decide on whether or not I'll invest in these vs a slow-dry medium. Thanks for sharing.
@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
The slow dry medium dilutes the paint and it doesn't stay wet as long as open but if you have a lot of acrylics already getting a small set of open and mixing with your regular acrylics will help. I you can add some slow dry to the traditional ones too. I'll have an indoor review once I have a few paintings under my belt.

Hi Lindsey, loved watching this process. I've never really been interested in acrylics though I like the look. I would love to try this in a mixed media/ watercolor or gouache if you don't mind me coping your idea. The cloth is fantastic and I can almost smell the hyacinth!

I just love your glass jars. Beautiful. See, that's exactly why I don't like acrylics very much. They dry way too fast. Well, that's not exactly true. I don't like shiny, plasticky and fast drying mediums. I like velvety mattes and easily blendable mediums.
@jdp6ofus4 жыл бұрын
I'm so excited you tried those paints and shared your thoughts on them. I love watercolor, but I also love acrylic. However I've found I really struggle with the acrylics drying too fast on the canvas at certain times of the year, regardless with what I do to extend them. I dabbled with oils and liked the blending, but the smell was so intense and the clean up and drying was too long. These paints may be my happy solution to my struggles. I love the painting you did also. I've wondered how to paint flowers like hyacinths. You did a fabulous job on it. Thank you for sharing.

Have you tried the atelier interactive paints with the unlocking formula?
@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't heard of them.
@ljjumble4 жыл бұрын
@@thefrugalcrafter My mum uses them. They are like regular acrylic paints for drying time but if you add the unlocking formula you can extend it. Even then the unlocking formula is supposed to evaporate around the same as water, so it doesn't stay wet for as long after you have finished working with it. I think you can even reactivate sections on a canvas after drying though I'm not completely sure on that. I know you like playing with different things so you might give them a go.
@starvingartistscollective4 жыл бұрын
I have Atelier IInteractives, been using them for about 18 months. Stay wet and workable on palette or canvas for as long as you want if spritzed with water while working. Dry fast like regular acrylics if you don't spritz. Can dry for few days on canvas, be spritzed with Unlocking Formula and start working again. Enjoy them far more than regular acrylics!

I love how this painting turned out. About a week ago, maybe two weeks ago, I bought the landscape set of Open acrylics. I may have been able to save a bit by ordering them online; but, calculating in shipping costs brings the cost much closer to what I paid at a family owned business here in town. It used to be called Jerrol's Book and Supply Co. But, now I think it just goes by Jerrol's. It has a limited amount of art and craft supplies. But, It does regularly carry Golden products. I would appreciate a review of the Open acrylics. I don't have acrylic paint brushes. Can I just use watercolor brushes?
@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
I would urge you get get a set of brushes for acrylics as they are harder on brushes and might damage them.
@ljjumble4 жыл бұрын
I would second getting different brushes for acrylics. I would also suggest that you got to a hardware store and get some cheap 2 inch brushes.
@Donna_G4 жыл бұрын
@@ljjumble, Thank you for the suggestion. I will take a look at the hardware department the next time I go to the store. I'm used to watercolors and painting small. When I got my Open acrylics, I bought an 8 x 10 inch canvas panel which is big considering how small that I paint with watercolors.

@thefrugalcrafter4 жыл бұрын
I have not heard of those, have you used them?
@cindyrogers14134 жыл бұрын
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich No, I have not tried them as I have been experimenting with watercolors (and your channel has been especially helpful!!). But I recently started watching David Jansen on KZbin and he works exclusively with Heritage acrylics and has recently done a series called 30 Roses in 30 Days. He is very informative in discussing his process and I am tempted to try his method and his paints (not sure if they are exactly “his” or not as I don’t know the particulars). The paints are sold on Amazon in two sets (basic and next level I guess) using similar colors to what you use. He also does a lot of mixing like you. I would be interested in seeing you try these paints with your style of florals or whatever. Supposedly these paints also have a long “working” time like these Golden paints. Love all your videos!!
