ok there was some misinformation in this video. 1. the “scandal” that knets “dug up” was something that was already in the spot light years ago, it’s not new information. I want to first say that it was already looked into by the government and they were CLEARED of everything. If i’m remembering correctly, the real story was that an employee made a mistake buying a scam advertising package that the guy then blackmailed him with. He ended up giving the guy money because he was scared to lose his job but it became too much and he told BigHit. BigHit then took him to court. This is when the government looked into it and it was confirmed they weren’t doing anything illegal. 2. The whole cult thing is literally INSANE. I’m sorry but why would HYBE theoretically approve OMG if it was “exposing their cultish ways.” Remember that they still would have looked over everything ESPECIALLY bc the company was new and they own a large majority of the stocks. 3. I feel like everyone was talking about how HYBE was releasing articles and albums during certain times, but why is no one talking about how after MHJ has a press conference trying to get people on her side, SUDDENLY old “scandals” are popping back up everywhere now they are suddenly being accused of BEING IN A CULT. Like…. come on. Not only that but the cult narrative paints MHJ as a good person who was just trying to protect the girls. I’ve spent my entire life around manipulative people and the things MHJ did in the conference reminded me of the things those people would do when i called them out on bad behavior. The entire thing was an act. She called herself “a kid out of art school.” … Honey… you’ve been in the industry for A SECOND. Don’t play the “little old me” card. Plus she dressed like a college student? Her entire presentation ignored talking about the VERY serious things she was being accused of and mostly consisted of her manipulating people with her tears. She sounded like a mad woman. I think one of the most damning things though is the fact that HYBE is willing and has taken this to court. This means that there is a lot they are not sharing with us, and their extensive legal team thinks they have enough for LEGAL ACTION. One person took it to court, the other is complaining to people. but idk maybe i’m reading this wrong. (i don’t think so though)

I absolutely agree! I think HYBE did release enough info for us to make our own judgement. MHJ keeps saying it wasn't about the money, oh it's definitely about the money! I think HYBE has been lenient enough, that extra 5% that keeps her binded or a 'slave' as she says, well she's able to sell by November this year! Luckily, HYBE hadn't agreed to its estimate (30x), otherwise she would've been able to leave, pay the penalties, and take NJ with her by the end of the year.

2. That's because you think it's detrimental for the cult to expose their ways but it's not necessarily true from the cult point of view. Some cults want to be lowkey and secretive, others want to promote their ideologies to the world. Dahn World falls into the latter category. 3. MHJ for sure has some loose screws, but you can't ignore the fact that HYBE was indeed the one that took this case public. You can't then blame the other side from playing the media game like they do, not to mention the antis that are lurking around waiting for any chance they can get. Full disclosure I am not picking sides nor do I have any emotional investment in this drama. I'm only curious in the legality of the case so I'm waiting for all that to go through.

@@liltunwin I'm also trying to not take sides yet, but I obviously have my own biases. To your point about what I said in point 2, I don't think it's always detrimental for cults to expose their beliefs, in fact, that's the only way they are able to grow. The problem with that argument though is that cults want good PR, not bad. If we follow this idea that HYBE wanted to spread the message of Dahn World, they would want it done in a "Wow isn't this ideology so great" kinda way. This means they would have still not liked a music video depicting the cult ideals as bad. As for HYBE being the one to take the case public, I don't think that's a bad thing. Hear me out. HYBE will send out announcements WHENEVER they are starting to take legal action. I think a big reason for this is so the public isn't able go crazy with theories. It also builds good relationships with fans if they are made aware of, for example, HYBE suing defamers of artists. HYBE does this all the time, so them telling everyone "Hey, we have to take this to court." shouldn't be surprising. It's much more of a scandal if a news network picks it up and they leak it. (then it seems like HYBE is hiding it) As for the articles, I'm not defending that. They defiantly tried to sway public opinion on that point. I just wanted to point out the fact that both sides are playing the media game because they didn't talk about it in the video. (they only talked about HYBE doing it) Thank you for responding, though. I defiantly have a HYBE bias (even though I'm not a fan of corporations) so I wanted to comment and see if I was missing anything.

The YT channel John Kim (The Komerican OG) breaks it all down. Born in US but has been in Korea for past 30 some years. Very interesting and educational. He gives his opinion as a Korean American who speaks the language, but also as a businessman. He believes it’s all about money. Says her press conference did sway some locals but that popular opinion won’t help you in court.

Hybe is no different than Universal Music Group who runs multi labels. Kanye West and 50 Cent dropped albums on the same day as did J Cole and Kanye West. They are all under UMG. I think the Korean public doesn't understand how a multi label company is run while in the West, this has been a thing for decades. The trade off with going to a larger company is that they pay for the bulk of the project so they will get majority of the profits from said project. Now MHJ saw the profits and wants to break a contract that she and her legal team already agreed to. For us outside of Korea, this looks like a money grab by MHJ. Imagine if some rich music executive came to a press conference dressed down (when they usually wear high end clothing) and crying. People in the West would assume he/she are playing in our face.

MJH's emotional response is not going to void the contracts she paid attorneys to review and signed. The copying NJ is nonsense (and a distraction) when MHJ copied US based artists for the NJ "concept." Should those artists hold a press conference crying saying that MHJ copied them? Also, when you choose to sign to a multi-label, you will have to compete with other artists under other labels within the company. In the US, artists of the same multi-label company compete with each other. Right now Drake and Rick Ross are beefing and guess what, they are both under Sony Music. I don't understand what's not clicking with you...

They the one who mention distinct in their own presentation. So she brough it up. Why make multi label if you want the same colour, type of group produce. Whether her claim is true or not, I'm not the judge of that. I myself can't even differentiate different shade of pastel colour. It all look the same to me. I'm sure the general public thinks the same way when they look at the two groups. Whether she wants to break the contract or not is still allegation.. allegation not proven yet in court. The way she dresses is always the same. she wore to award ceremony. even to even. even in the brand presentation video she wore a freaking tshirt. for a corporate announcement. What I get is that the company wants to get rid of her one way or another and the press conference is a way that Newjeans member would be protected. @@skyraywastaken again, you don't understand how these labels work. Labels under the parent company can have the same artists using the same esthetic. Sza and H.E.R have a similar esthetic and are both under SONY. If you want to keep it 100, NJ copied Taylor Swift's 1989 esthetic. They don't own the styling. I find it rich that the people who copied a whole genre of music want to accuse another group who is doing the same thing they did of copying. As to her clothing, her "dress down" outfits are luxury brands, you're fooled by the styling. The press conference outfit was purposely clothing the average person could afford. Again playing in our face. She's playing games because she wants to break her contract and leave with her unvested stock options which some of us who receive equity as part of our employment package know you cannot take with you. It's part of the employment contract you sign.

Don’t pick a side. Let the presence (or not) of evidence speak for itself. If MHJ is required to go to court, then she is assumed innocent until proven guilty. HYBE has a right to perform an audit if they wish on MHJ or indeed any company employee. If she turns out to be a ‘problem’ employee, then she should leave, preferably on her own accord. In any case, I’m sure her separation agreement will reward her handsomely $$$.

If this whole issue is between MHJ, ADOR, Hybe, contract/salary issues, and girl groups copying each other's concepts which btw has been used and reused for years, why the hell was BTS dragged into it? Namjoon's release schedule was planned since last year. They plan their releases months and even years ahead. This time the schedule is a gift to army becuase it will keep us busy and lead us to BTS' anniversary in June. They already consulted MHJ about the schedule and she was fine with it. If it's unfair to new jeans then it would be MHJ's fault for agreeing with the schedule. Also, Namjoon is the senior artist. Shouldn't the younger artist be the one to adjust their promo schedule?

Yep, and all using Western era 90's concepts. Fact New Jeans and other Kpop girl as well as Y2K Jpop girl groups are a direct copy of the Western era 90's (sometimes 80's) stylistically and musically, which has also been brought back by many Western artists, this is why they did so well they are a throw back to what is called the best era of Western music. Go look at a young Britany Spears she had the school girl look, Christine Algeria sports wear & Jeans was her original vibe, Avril Lavigne, the Spice Girls I'm just touching on a few of the female artists of that era. Her coming to that press conference dressed like a disheveled mess and cursing erratically looks like an attempt to play on the sympathies of SK citizens. It makes her look like a fragile victim of the big bad wolf and not the strong, effective boss CEO she is saying she is. She should have come in there in a power suit and commanded the room, but she wants to be the victim to "win" this whole thing. I think MHJ did a good job (initially) of getting the public on her side, with all of her fake crying with no tears, but as more facts come out, were beginning to see what a liar and manipulator she is. I encourage everyone to look at the two videos posted by Seoulite TV. They do an EXCELLENT job of breaking down the press conference and putting the pieces together. If you follow the money, you will see that Hybe was MORE than generous with this woman. TOO GENEROUS. The reason New Jeans debut was delayed was because of MHJ. She took members from another company, and contracts had to be re-written, etc. The delay was because of MHJ, not HYBE. She's all about money. Hybe kept giving her more money, and better stock options, and she wanted more. They finally said enough, and thats when they found out she was trying to get money to open up her own label. Also, apparently, MHJ knew that new jeans and Namjoon album release was on the same day, and she was fine with it. I'm all about facts and proof, and Hybe has all of it. What does she have? A company laptop that she's refusing to give back. I feel so bad for New Jeans and BTS for being dragged into this mess.

The Ador Board of Directors are originally SM employees. MHJ shared her 2 shares of her 20 shares with these directors, ensuring loyalty, whereas her loyalty to HYBE which provided generous stock options and benefits and paid the most of all subsidiary CEO's does not exist. New Jeans came from Source Music which MHJ avoided expenses of training. HYBE provided everything for New Jeans, including paying New Jeans members $5 million so that they are already set.

I actually think international fans have a more correct read of the situation in this case, because we're looking at the situation more objectively and only considering the facts, whereas Koreans are contextualising the situation to their own experiences, and make their assessments from an emotional perspective. The problem with the latter is that their comparison is inherently flawed given that MHJ is a millionaire herself, she's not a low- to middle-class worker like everyone is sympathising with her as. She had a lot of power and benefits from the position she was in, and still, from that position, tried to be even greedier.

Speaking generally, it's so foolish to take sides when you don't know the full scope of the situation. Especially when there's something new coming out everyday with reports etc. Do people never learn? 😂 It's not BTS vs New Jeans vs ILLIT either. But it's pretty unheard of for a company to release music from multiple artist on the same day because they'll end up just competing with each other. Companies usually avoid even overlapping promotional periods so their artists can get as many as possible music show wins and rank high on charts. Sometimes companies have comebacks at the same time as their direct competitors (like SNSD vs 2NE1 in 2014) to boost sales through competition. I feel like loads of you *totally* missed the point with what Anna was saying, even though she said it several times 😂 Anna & David talk about the biggest stories that are happening in Korea AND what the general public in Korea are saying too. So with this particular story 😂 that's also what Anna did, she simply brought the perspective of what Korean Netizens are actually saying / the conversational landscape right now of part of the korean public. I think both of you guys explained this in the best way I've seen so far for a non korean speaker who doesnt understand all the intricacies of the language/tone etc.
