Can you believe that damn carb issue, how simple of a fix was that, right. This thing hauls ASS though, and the 2-speed shifts are crips, plenty of power too. Honestly a little too much low end torque, I gotta use throttle carefully on this thing. And yet people say these motors are crap, IDK, seems good to me when the carb is fixed.

Just picked up a nitro 4tec 3.3 for $75. Had a fresh looking 3.3 which had its EZ start and one-way bearing on backwards. Switched em around and set it to factory settings and now it runs like a champ. Nitro 4 life!

whats up Nitrogang! terrific deal bro, I used to have a 4-tec 2.5 when it first came out. If you run on pavement you will sometimes get pebbles in the belts. Try to tape up the chassis openings if you can to avoid that issue. Yup, basic mistake a noob made, could have just youtube it and known he messed up.

hey bro! I know! It seems every one of these trucks have these same 2 issue, and yet Redcat don't care. What sucks is a basic replacement carb is like 50 bucks for these things, pretty much a huge amount of money when you can get a brand-new Dynamite 21 for around 100 bucks. Personally I like to run things stock, thats why I'm to getting different motors.

It's kinda sad that it's mostly the carb on these engines nowadays, it's honestly the most important part and they seem to cut corners at this exact spot. I cringe everytime I see a full aluminium block carb... those things ruin the tune everytime by heating up, or downright vapor lock...

You fixed my revo!! Well at least I think so😄 my 3.3 was due for a carb rebuild and all was well until until I ran it later and it did the same as your red cat did and bog at 1/2 throttle like crazy. hey my dude!! Lets hope you can fix it!! Worst case scenario the new 3.3 traxxas carbs sell for like 25 bucks on ebay, it's super cheap, not a total rip of like for this carb. If you notice serious defects, just get a new carb and move on, also be sue to check for an O-Ring seal around the carb body, often times they are missing if anyone ever tooled on it before. Keep me updated, the Nitrogang Cares!.

hey dude! I guess I finally determined the issue to be a poor carb design, because I know many others have this same bogging down problem. But you gotta admit tho, when it's running good, the 2-speed sounds crazy and the handling in my opinion is better than a t-maxx 3.3. Plus it starts easy. I just need to fix the clutch spring, and I'm good. Nitrogang figured out another mystery problem.

hey bro! It took me about year of process of elimination and testing to determine the carb is the reason. I tried various fuel tanks (even from an HPI) tunes all over the place, different pipes, literally everything possible. turns out the carb is shit. I gotta give it to redcat though, their customer service is quite good ,they will send you parts just to shut you up. The problem is, the parts suck ,ahaha.

This is a cool tip, keep the piston at bottom dead center when you turn it off, it helps prolong the the piston when it cools down. I do that on all my nitros and my Barca too for the heck of it, just put a mark with a sharpie marker on the flywheel for reference

@@hybrid32494Good job figuring it out man! Decent motors let down by the carb. I only got mine to run good once before I started sucking air like you did. Be careful with the one way bearings on it. They are like made of glass they break so easy. So just keep it pull start or you will go through the one way bearings like candy to a fat kid.

hey man!! You got it! This earthquake has been haunting me for over a year, and nobody has solved these problems so far, other than me. Once you replace that carb, it's a perfect truck (I wont hold the clutch spring against it). It's got tons of low end power as you saw, in fact a little too much torque for my liking. I like nice steady accelerating, not off th line wheelies.

Hi! I am a user of HSP 94166 (1:10 nitro buggy). I order a lot of parts from China for my car (low availability in my country) and I noticed that the clutch pad springs are now terribly weak - especially the silver ones. They can be easily stretched with just 2 fingers. I bought springs for the HPI Trophy 3.5. Catalog number 101048. They are very hard and work great with aluminum clutch shoes! Better to order more of them, if there are still in stock (I bought at once 10pcs xD).

Yo nitro gang I'm checking in from St. Petersburg FL and I got my first rc about 5 months ago it was electric loads of fun. Then I saw a nitro gang video. Now I own redcat volcano s30 and of course a Tmaxx baby. Tmaxx won't stop walking idle gap is at 1mil tune is good not the greatest yet working on that. I don't find any personality in almost all electrics, its basically a matter of how many lipos you stick in there. Air in the line usually means internal tank leak. If the carb nipples were leaking wouldn't you get fuel leaking out not air in. My tank had internal leaks. It was fine at a full tank, but once the fuel level dropped below the leak at the internal hose nipple, the air was forced in the leak from the pressurized system. Therefore bubbles in fuel line.Thanks for sharing.

hey bro! how you doing! Lets try to fix this together. Are you 100% sure your motor is getting fuel correctly?? Often times after messing with any carb you could wind up with a vacuum leak, and the motor just not correctly getting fuel as it should. Ar you 100% sure the carb gasket is correctly installed and tight? Try pouring some fuel directly into the motor, like 10 drops, see if it first up, it should start drawing fuel on it's own after that. Let me know..

The main thing is not to jump them too much, it's the jumping that will constantly break stuff on any RC, trust me. I understand people love jumping these things, but it's just not worth it.

hey bro!! you got it!! I'm 100% sure that all the Stock SH 21 carbs used on this redcat RC are just like the one I have, meaning the carb is useless. Even if you try to put a thin gasket or shim, you will disrupt the fuel flow though the throttle inlet, its a poor design. Just get any other carb from and other big block motor, and ur good.

whats up Nitrogang!! To be honest Pretty long, unless I'm running the Savage XL K5.9, then about half as long, lol. The TXR 3.3 motors are pretty economical, it's really the huge .28 and up motors that take loads of fuel. Even this SH 21 is efficient, IT takes forever to run out of fuel. Last time I ordered nitro fuel was like Half a year ago (3 gallons from bones brew). I still have half of it left. And I have about 2 quarts away.

Hey on the carb problem, Couldn't you just take the thickness of a gasket off the aluminium carb body and the same amount off the brass piece that holds the fuel banjo on so it would then seal?

hey dude! I thought about many ways on how to mod this Stock POS redcat carb, but the tolerances are just so tight on these tiny components, that it's beyond the precision I would be about to work with while using a Dremel or hand tools. The way the fuel inlet sits is very important, any variation in clearance and there will be huge obstruction in the fuel flow. We are talking like the fuel inlet itself is about 1MM wide, you know. Easiest thing is to just get another carb, and call it a day, then rip it in both gears like I did, lol.

hey man!! I examined the original carb in great detail to see if I could fit a thin washer/gasket in the fuel line fitting. The problem is, there just would not be good alignment with the fuel inlet, it's an overall bad design, I have never seen the high speed needle valve be assembled like that. If I added some gaskets there it would not screw into the carb body as intended, you see what I'm saying? Weird design, I know.

@@hybrid32494 dude your the best!! Picked up my earthquake the other day for 100 bucks and bought a new servo saver and hubs and it is as good as new. Took it out today though and I can’t get it to take a tune! Same issue as you, I managed to tune the big out but it was so rich it would die after 5 or so seconds at idle. Then I came across your video and I’m pretty pumped now! Been wanting to get back into nitro for awhile, electric is cool and all but it’s just not the same as hearing and smelling a screaming nitro!!!

@@hunterhouser3143 The one I ran in the video was from a different .28 engine, but basically another SH engine discontinued long ago. I’ve just got that exact same RC about a week or so ago and when I pull the pull start it has a very hard spot almost like the piston is stuck and it’s brand new I let it idle through two tanks and then it locked up just sitting there I took the Engine off and put some 3 & 1 in there and it unlocked it but it still has that hard spot like it’s locked up can you help me I want to burn some nitro fuel any advice would be greatly thankful.

hey man! It sounds like you just have alot of compression, honestly that is very normal for these Big Block .21 motors, I know exactly what you mean. Here is what you can do to lower the compression a little and make it start easier, you can simply turn the glow plug out about 1/2 a turn. The truck will still start, after it warms up like 20 seconds you can turn the plug back in. You will most likely have to do this for the next couple of starts. NO big deal, I do it all the time.

@@hybrid32494 thank you for the reply I thought that too and I tried that I actually took the glow plug all the way out and it still has that very hard spot I feel like it’s going to break the pull start if I pull any harder it won’t move and then it freeze up all the sudden and then sometimes it will do it and sometimes it won’t.

@@prideandjoyrc2051 pre heat the engine to 200° before you start it. Lean the hsn a little, its flooding the engine.

Remember to finish the break in procedure as per the manual. So you have as best your engine.

So what carb did you end up putting in the truck to solve the bogging issue? Also what clutch spring?

hey bro! how you doing! I wound up using a basic SH28 carb on this motor. All the big block carbs from force and SH engines basically are the same diameter anyway. Problem solved. For the clutch, I used a regular traxxas clutch, yes it fit, lol. I could not believe it either.

So it was a vacuum leak? Should have tried some teflon tape just to see if there was a super easy fix... at least for those who dont have a spare carb kicking around ✌😜

i cant even get my 3.5 to start, think im going to try a new carb as well and see if that fixes it so i can get it to even run. my question is what carb did you end up using that fixed it

hey bro! YEs, the new carb will fix all your issues, it took me a while to figure that out. I used a basic SH 28 carb, they are all the same on the .21 and up SH engines. Basically test fit any carb, one as it fits the crankcase you're good to go.

hey bro! Sorry to hear that, it sounds like you got the same exact replacement carb, am I right?? So I put on a SH 28 carb (you could use any .21 and up size carb that fits really). I'm thinking thats the problem, I would highly recommend you get a this amzn.to/3mIuUiA. It s a good dynamite carb, you can always use it on any other motor if needed..

You could have just put o-rings between those carb components to seal it up. I doubt that the actual carburetor is a bad design. The Chinese QC is just letting shit get through.

hey dude! that is exactly what I though too. If you look up pictures of this SH 21 motor brand new, you will see there is absolutely no gasket or washer between the fuel inlet and the brass and aluminum carb body. I have had many other Chinese motors and they all have small washers in those spots. BTW putting any form of washer there myself will cause the fuel inlet to sit off center with the brass fitting directly into it, It's a very temperamental design, I've tried everything, trust me. The carb is just terrible.

hey!! Yes, I hear you, considering they are fairly simple issues to fix, redcat really pissed me off with this one. Mine was a customer return, so im quite sure it pissed of the last owner too, haha. But once you still a normal carb on this, it's quite a good RC, I honestly cant tell you that it drove any worse than a t-maxx 3.3 around that track.
