I think to really take this game to the next level, the AI should be able to build trains for you. I enjoy switching and love building my own trains, but when there’s several trains to build and switch on a large single player game, it can become overwhelming. That being said, I can only imagine how crazy that would be on the back end. This game has come such an incredibly long way in a year. It is easily one of, if not the best, train game on the market right now. The community is wonderful, and the devs are keeping true to their word and producing a high quality product. Great video!

I actually really like the challenge of switching all of the trains and trying to make all of the movements work, personally.
@LRF152Ай бұрын
@ that’s the thing though, if you want to continue to switch yourself, you can. I’m just hoping at some point we get the option to have AI do some of the switching for the player.

Hyce, great video as always. As someone with almost 400 hours of single player time, I must agree with just about every point you've made with this updated review. As someone whose always wanted to build a model railroad since I was a kid, I love my Model Railroad simulator. And I would be remiss if I didn't say that watching the antics of the ES&DT is always a high point in my week. Thanks so much for providing an awesome experience, and hopefully sometime soon I'll get to join the crew myself! Cheers!

this game has so much potential. the addition of Vanilla Articulated Locos will give players the chance to really challenge Red Marble with big heavy trains. the challenge of dragging 60 loaded Coal Hoppers over the 4.7 percent grade in one go because you need to clear the hill for the passenger train behind you!

Hiya Hyce! Thanks for the fresh review. The early version of the game as I've seen it in videos was limited and I think we've all been scarred by game studios in the past .... It's nice to see a studio that actually works with its user community to make the game better. Thank you Adam and team 😊. The dispatch element is great fun, and not gonna lie, one of my favorite vids to put on for silly background while I clean the house or whatever is the session from Superb Owl Sunday with the whole crew. 😊 One of the reasons I love your content is that you'll stand up and take credit for a mistake or misjudgment. Thank you. Railroader has developed into a lovely game in its niche, although that was a hard future to see a year ago and I am looking forward to more. PS for transparency: I don't play Railroader at present and would need a good tutorial to learn it. But it's great fun watching everyone binning it. 😊 Thank you again.

If you’re trying to learn an industry, you can go into the company info menu (I) then to locations. From there select the industry you’re looking at. When you click on the locate symbol, it’ll fly you to that track. When you hover over the name it’ll then highlight said track. This way you can get the general direction of where it is and when you get closer you’ll be able to pinpoint your destination

For me, this game feels like a Switching-Sim most of the time. Not that I dislike it, but single-player is mostly about building a train and letting AI pull it across the map to different locations before I can then switch the cars into the right tracks and start building up a new train for the return trip. The challenge is always in what order the trains should depart or be switched. When passenger stops were added to AI, I dropped using Fusees a LOT and could concentrate on what to do with the pass. train when they reached their end destination. With fewer Fusees to "worry about" (read: forget about), train operations suddenly ran much smoother!
@BandanRRChannelАй бұрын
30:30 I'm not sure if there's a good "mode" for that, but I think having a set of track diagrams you could pull up in a window, similar to Derail Valley's location maps, would serve the same purpose. Tells you which track is which and how long that track is (so you know how many cars it can hold). Maybe that could go with an "employee timetable" that has other useful info like a listing of location mileposts, siding lengths, speed restrictions, and a vertical profile. You'd want the timetable to update with each milestone, though.

7:30 - Mods are *so critically important* to railway games. I literally know not one modern day railway game that stayed relevant for a prolonged time without some kind of mods or otherwise addons. I believe that can't be overstated. 27:50 - Basically it found its niche that very few other games cater to. Virtually all railway games are either on the single-train-centered (driving simulators) plain or significantly further removed/abstract, on the "Railroad Tycoon" plain of things. I have neither played nor watched it, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think SimRail might be on a similar plain, but still with a different focus, more the technical operations (and accurately modeled train running as such) and less of the logistics. Certain, uh, other projects formerly prominent around here are more on the sandboxy, Tycoony side of things. Great review and it pretty much matches up with how I perceive the game through your videos of it. I love the differentiated, reflecting approach you have to your earlier review.

I will always be grateful to the person who gifted this game to me for Christmas! This game has always been an absolute blast but I do have a warning for newcomers: if you’re playing a single player game, you need to be careful about just how much of the railroad you’ve unlocked, because if you get too much, it’ll become too much for one person alone to handle, and it leads to extreme burnout.
@ryano.5149Ай бұрын
I will say though, as long as they keep the console "cheats" in the game, that helps so much. I've been playing around with how much of the railroad I can manage on my own, and I think Whittier to Robinson Gap is about my sweet spot. Having to cheat myself 3 geeps in every time because I don't have enough power on Red Marble, well, that kinda ruins the emersion a bit. It's fun to slog it out once in a while...but like...that end of the railroad past Nantahala is a bit much for one person. It does make me wish there was an option for an intermediate interchange and engine facility at Nantahala, but...eh, not the end of the world. I'm still enjoying the heck out of the game!

I found this game is one of the best 'conductor' simulators out there. Typically when I play, I use the AI driver to actually run the trains, and ride along to set switches and direct movements. Also, I'm so glad the 44 tonner is a thing now, even in mod form. It's a fantastic 'entry level' diesel that I feel was really missing from early-to-mid game. I purchased one on the first day of my newest career save to replace the Mogul, and haven't looked back. Did have to spend some extra dosh on the Whittier fuel stand, though.

As the game currently stands I am completely happy with what's in game, and I'm optimistic/excited about what's to come. That said, the one thing I would love to see the devs look into is optimization. Now, I'm most definitely not running a high end rig (most every part could probably be considered old), but the fact that there are big frame drops at times (like teleporting to different locations or looking at certain angles in certain locations) even when I have zero trees, particle effects turned off, and most graphics set to low is, plainly, annoying. I still love the game, but when my railroad only goes from Sylva to Alarka Junction with a maximum number of trains moving at any one time is three or four and I consider myself lucky that I'm getting 40 or 50+ fps, it feels like something is bogging down behind the scenes.

your response is much appreciated and normally I would agree with you, but I picked this game up in may to occupy my time after having a traumatic brain injury in April. I very quickly learned the menus and how to learn a new industry. It came off in the video as there is no way to see what track a car goes on without having the car close by, and that’s just not true. I am glad to see your feelings on the game have changed though as your weekly podcast with friends is something that I look forward to as an escape from my reality. Currently sitting at 7 months off work, with multiple MRIs, CTs, and other medical issues. Love what you. Rob

Calling it model railroader is NOT harsh or an insult in any shape or form. A model railroad offers working industry and close simulation of a real railroad, but so many other games (Eg Trainz) falls short of delivering this. Their industries and the reason for the railroad to exist and work, is actually missing. Railroader and Railroads Online are the only 2 that did the industry right, but the latter is a chore with staying on the track. Railroader doesn't have this problem, so it is superior and the BEST railroad game to play with friends.

Its an all right game and can be fun now and then with friends. But it gets exhausting after a while because progress is so slow in everything for my tastes. It takes too long for things to unload or load at some of the industries. So you're never sure how far to advance time in hopes something gets filled up and never does end up being. And it ends up just being a lot of time waiting on things to be done and it gets tiresome. My friends eventually just...gave up after a while because nothing ever seems to progress at a decent pace so we're stuck on a single day for far too long. Usually we have 2 - 3 hour play sessions and sometimes a single day could take 2 days of get togethers to do. It was only 3 of us as well for reference. If they increased the loading and unloading speeds for things as an option (I've not seen a mod for this yet) it would probably be more tolerable but even I have my patience limit for these things.

I’m about 40hrs into it and I knew that SP was OCD inducing. Expanding isn’t the highest thing on my list. Far from it. My wish was things like passenger trains Should be a shuttle back and forward service, that’s my brain number right there. Ticking every coach and station to either be passengers alighting for the return or going to the final station forwards. It should do this automatically without any input from the player. Obviously with AE on I can get it to stop at each one but it will continue to nowhere if I don’t intervene at the last stop. I spoke with the dev and he doesn’t see it as a problem…. 😮

My experience in multi-player hasn't exactly been fun. I hopped in one for close to twenty minutes and was still stuck in passenger role. I couldn't even board a passenger train and just ride in one of the passenger cars because the doors were locked. I would probably enjoy playing multi-player, however you just don't know what type of people are running their multi-player sessions. Are they the serious type and will kick you for little things, or the serious role-playing type? You just don't know. Watching you and the guys play on the ES&DT makes me want to try multi-player, but again there's that unknown factor that makes me hesitant. Given how I know how you and the guys play on the ES&DT, I might actually get to enjoy playing with others if I had the chance to try a few sessions with you guys. I run my session in single-player and operate the railroad similar to you guys.
@Stant123Ай бұрын
QOL I'd like to see is a little more thought put into the coloring of the tags above the cars. Specifically, the interchanges getting their own colors. White, black, tan or brown could be used so it'd be obvious these sylva cars are going to the interchange, not the paperboard, and these other cars are going to the Andrews interchange, not snowbird. The whole coloring scheme right now feels kind of wrong. From Sylva to Alarka they've already blown through almost a dozen colors, and beyond that, there's really just one used. Now I understand more industry will get added to that half of the railroad as development continues, but really, how many different colors of purple is there? So potentially, just color code for the various yards and not for the industries or mileposts like it is now, would save on having to come up with 5 different colors of blue and 9 different colors of purple to squeeze in between alarka junction and Andrews and would make it so having bright orange for dillsboro and dark orange for sley mica and schist unnecessary... Or an option to set colors ourselves on the industry page and then people can do whatever they feel like.

On another occasion I have flagged crossings for a day on a tiny little operation in southern PA - which is juuuuuuust enough experience to show me that I know absolutely nothing and big choo choo can kill you if you aren't paying attention! Hell, even small choo choo can kill you if you aren't paying attention! But I digress! This game doesn't even scratch the surface on how the real-deal works. This game is good for the vibes. It's good for a very general cliff-notes idea of how the logistics of the railroad works. However, there is zero comparison to the real thing when it comes to all the important details that a real railroader would need to know. Nothing from the game translates 1:1. ...and trust me, that's a good thing. If it did, the game wouldn't be much of a game.

I wish they would have added more than 2 diesels at launch. Mabe well get an official F7 or e8/e9, mabe an alco road loco. I know we got mods for an F7 but I would like a more polished one than the mod

I mean by any means it could be almost all games that have been exactly like that. Hyce was kind enough to included all genres instead of singling out anyone in particular. (Which honestly I enjoyed watching that whole segment about it)

Well I don’t know hyce has it?

Good video, helps me understand somewhat what certain things are the way they they are. I'm dumb as a rock. All I know is standard gauge. Hmed heavy. Mass humer love the mixes of. Talent voice wise,pitty I don't have a voice most could understand. Total leengetomy. When I was 16. My son has a good voice maybe start him off a s gofer? Keep the quest mark. I want to DM you about making some Birdie decaled or stickers in Ho scale. Personal use for some 80k. Chocolate milk cars. Or eggnog will watch you when I can. Working on voicing a old amp. Your friend low on the totem pole William Nmo. Aka 300 pound bassman. 🙏🌹❤️🥴🥴

Development is slow, slower than I would like, but the quality is great and the communiction works well too. Plently of major titles have way more bugs or worse working game mechanics than this game. Other than that, the performance of the game is lackluster and could do with a lot of work...dunno if that will ever be possible
@XthatsXcrumpXАй бұрын
I think this game will go the same route of Railroads online where it takes a long time but in the end it will be one of the best games out there for train enthusiasts.

I think this game is awesome, but the one thing that keeps me from getting into it is the very boring and sterile environment. Even for just wilderness, there is too few assets around.
