ROADKING, you are a great mentor for all of your young Buddies! I'm glad that you include them and their expertise in all of your projects. I'm sure they've learned many more things than can be mentioned from you. Great job Buddy!

Its always nice to bring an older piece of gear back from the grave, I've got one of the newer ones now, and its no where near as good as the old jack I had years back. (It got stolen during a move.....)

That looks like the same jack my brother and I bought from Mac tools when we were in high school. That was 40 years ago. My brother is still using it. I lucked into a Montgomery Ward jack from the 50's. It's the best jack I've ever used !
@budblanke96887 жыл бұрын
It's a darn shame but lots of the new stuff you buy now looks so pretty but when you go to use it, it just won't cut the mustard! I got one of those old ones made back in the day, at least 40 years old, leaks a little and needs some TLC but it was made tough. I wouldn't trade it for 10 new ones! Glad to see RK is one of us who appreciate when quality was built into the product! Thanks for another great video RK

Probably wouldn't hurt to change the hydraulic oil. Re-did my old one , and refilled with some leftover transmission fluid, and it got alot smoother, and just felt better.
@JoeKyser7 жыл бұрын
Bob G transmission fluid is a mild detergent so anything that was gummed up definitely was freed when you put that in there. Good thinking buddy
@RobertPerrigoOkiechopper7 жыл бұрын
Nice work, both of my hydraulic jacks are from the Pawn shop, and were in new condition for a 1/3 of new retail cost. One is a Sears like the one in this video and the other one is a low profile, If I remember right , I got them both for around 55.00 dollars. Great 2 part video, Thumbs up .

I noticed that when he put the pin on for the jacking part he put it flat side UP . I would think it would go Flat side down so it had a flat surface to slide on . Plus a little Grease on the parts would help .... Just a thought . I think it is Neat you can find the parts to fix these things . Way to go ...

I was just watching this assembly and thinking, " you know, there's a lot of geometry and engineering type thinking and practice that had to be used in that handle assembly!" I mean to have those 'star' gears in constant mesh, and the flat sided pin to operate the hydraulic plunger all at the same time. Interesting and fun too,...."I'm gonna leave it the way it is, until the car falls on somebody..." Good one!
@805ROADKING7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, especially the way they shaped the one gear so it would mesh with the moving handle!!☺

I watch your video and really enjoy. I gotten a old Sears floor jack that's made in Japan. However it won't go down and also hard to turn. It's stuck so I checked the fluid and it's good. Is it something major and worth keeping?

It looks like they took it apart at one time and put the washer in the wrong spot... You guys put the washer in the correct spot and fixed the slack in the part.... The reason the grear is messed up if because the person before you put that washer in the wrong spot and the gear moved up and got on top of each other while the person was jacking up the jack and they turned the handle and bent up the gears...

Unless my eyes or the camera is deceiving me, the new one's walls are thinner. THAT, if true, is where they skip costs the most. There's a difference between a sheet of 3 mm and one of 5 mm (or whatever size they have), not much, but it does add up.
@805ROADKING7 жыл бұрын
Nah they were pretty much the same, I'd consider it an excellent aftermarket reproduction and I'm not very big on reproduction parts!!☺

I have a similar Jack...needs an overhaul..Where can I get oil seals for this ? OTC has this Seal Kit but already discontinued and they can't even point me in a direction...no substitute parts too. The guy I spoke with in OTC Tech Support seems like he doesn't want being there...very few words " It's been discontinued" thats all he knows what to say...Well !!! then what ? has no imagination and doesn't like to help people. Thank God he is not assigned in customer service...probably had a rough childhood. I'm sorry...Any info please help
@battlehrfred5 жыл бұрын
Hi Just take it apart and take lotssss of pic photos of the way it was originally before you dissembled, there is definitely numbers on these seal, take it/seal, to a seal and bearing shop and they can order the right seal no problems, there is numbers on all of the seals, except O rigs, they can be matched up and get one compatible with all types of oils, these seals and O rings are just a few dollars, great investment on a old reliable jack...mine leaked because of the big piston seal because my Bro or someone in my shop, used brake fluid in the jack.some seals are not compatable with brake fluid or other fluida. BTW use only appropriate jack oil. ty
