do you need to determine that the slump tank needs to be able to hold all the water from all the buckets in case pump failure, so you don't get overflow in the slump tank?
@greenhousesolutions1074

No. You start with a full nutrient (slump) tank and then turn on the pump. Never more water than the system can handle. We use a timer to turn on and off the pump anyway. Thanks

@greenhousesolutions1074
@greenhousesolutions1074 4 жыл бұрын
This is being done outside as well, The buckets will not flood since they continually drain. The 27 gallon bin can over flow from the rain, but just check your TDS (nutrient level) and adjust if needed. See the nutrient KZbin video. Thanks

if you lift the water reservoir high enough. you can gravity feed it to the plants by drilling a hole in the container lower than the top of the water and put in a valve. open the valve three times a day and your done. you could even put in a solenoid to open the valve three times a day or have a power valve. so you could do it without the pump. just a thought.

how do you clean and store your perlite from the dutch buckets in-between growing. I live in Ohio and do my dutch buckets outside so after the growing season I have to do something with it before winter comes. I started with 60 buckets last year with great success and I have moved up to 228 buckets this year. I saw that one guy soaks his paint strainers with the perlite in a mild bleach water, then rinses it, lets it dry, then dumps the perlite into 55 gallon plastic drums then next season dumps back into each bucket with strainer. Does this sound about right to you? or do you have an easier method? Thank you for your time!

Cleaning/replacing the Perlite? Or just to prevent the outlet from clogging? If it is the latter, one could cover that outlet (pipe) with some smaller pieces of netting only? (because so far, I can't source those nets locally).

Using the Masterblend ratios is great for all stages. The plant will use everything it needs at it's different stages. If you want to back off the Calcium nitrate to half through fruiting that would be fine, but the plants continue to grow and produce well for 2 years. So that being said, the plant is actually in all stages. Thanks, Randy You can get the best price on Masterblend nutrient packs at www.CompleteGrowing.com

www.CompleteGreenhouse.com has everything you need. Suggest the kits because shipping buckets, PVC pipe and perlite can be expensive. Manard's is the best followed by stores like LOWES to purchase buckets and PVC. Feed stores or garden supply stores usually carry perlite. If you just want the convenience and not worried about the shipping, Complete Greenhouse does have everything.

You can order the kits anytime. New product including the buckets will be available soon. We have no more green buckets. Menards discontinued them. We had 10,000 made for us in blue. Thanks!

What is the size of your feeder line into the bucket? I have tried to different pumps and am only able to get my water go about 6 feet even when my pumps say the can go 25 feet, any thoughts on how I can get it to go to my last bucket?

Use reducers on your first few buckets (1/8 inch) 1/2 inch main line, 1/4" feeders.

@@greenhousesolutions1074 I'm having the same issue with my last two buckets not getting water...just a small gurgle. Are these reducers hises or plugs? Do you have them or do I get them at hardware store? Thanks.

question if you added some fish to your resivor or say i tapped into my fish pond would that be aquaponics and work? just trying to think of a cheap hydroponic way to grow without buying nutrients all the time. Idk can someone please explain a little if it wouldn't work? I really want to build a aquaponic system
@greenhousesolutions1074
@greenhousesolutions1074 4 жыл бұрын
I will have a complete aquaponics video out soon. Been doing that successfully for 7 years. Sometimes fish upkeep can be more expensive than using the Masterblend nutrients. You can add fish, but be careful not to add too many too fast - would cause an ammonia spike and kill the fish. Everything will be explained in the video. Thanks

Just curious, wouldn't it be easier and more cost effective to use large bins (troughs) instead of a bunch of separate buckets?

Depends what you're going to grow and what space you have to do it. Can mix many different types of container/system together. The fun is in it's scalability. Gets a bit addictive!

You actually use less media in the separate containers, and also have more control. I do some of my root crops in larger containers. Thanks

Yes it is automatic - pump and a timer. The stuff in the buckets is perlite. Just one of a few things you can use. A new video on different grow media coming soon. Thanks

@@greenhousesolutions1074 , site works. My machine was throwing in an S. https instead of http. One question though. Perlite. I have 2 huge bags like yours. How many 4 gallon pails can you expect to fill with 1 bag? I almost finished my 12x20 greenhouse from coloradometalworx.com. It's awesome. All of my peppers, hots and superhots are going there. I am going hydroponics with dutch buckets this year. Hope it works out.
