But then again if you want more money. Just learn how to use a scanner, like itero or cerec then you wouldn't even need to make an alginate impression, just take a scan.

I wish I had that much working time with the alginate we use at my office! We use a fast set. I work in a pediatric dentist office, had to take an impression on a 3 year old one time. But its rare for us to take impressions.

I used to work at a dental lab. We hate receiving alginate impressions from dentists. One, they need to be kept under water otherwise they’ll shrink as they dry and be useless. Yet we need to dry them before pouring because that little water ruins the texture of the stone and two, we can only get one pour out of them because by the time the stone is dry the alginate is completely dry and brittle too. It just crumbles in your hand when you take the model out. So we have to make sure to be extra careful when pouring but also fast cuz it dries fast. I always gave those to my coworker. She’s great at pouring and her models come out with little to no bubbles.

Nice video. Tho next time it'd be very helpful to your fans that are interested in obtaining optimum results when using alginate materials for impressing edentulous or semi-edentulous patients for accurate construction of complete dentures or partial dentures in removable prosthetics Over my 30 years and thousands of successful restorations it'd be to their best interest to consider this concept.. When inserting tray and alginate into the oral cavity; deliver tray and material anteriorly to posterior thus forcing any and all air distal and away fro trapping in the vault of the palate, which occurs more often when starting from the distal or posterior ending up trapping air lingually of the patients anteriors or in the vault of the palate.. Hoper this may help those that may have struggled with such issues. Sincerely; Denture Geek In Colorado

Underdosing the water about 20% is the only trick that makes a real difference. I've found it in Hayakawa's book about complete dentures. I personally also like to slightly wet the surface of the alginate after loading the tray. Sometimes I also apply some alginate with a finger onto occlusal surfaces of molars, lingual surfaces of upper incisors and around severely malposed teeth.

"Lots of pressure on the back"??????? Why pressure? Just sit it well at the posterior first and then anterior. You never put 'lots of pressure'. That is going to ruin the impression resulting into exposing the tray through the alginate which is not good.

No fluffing it??! I’ve always learned with powders like this, even with flour when baking, you fluff the powder by simply rolling the container around at an angle. This helps to get the accurate amount in the scoop for the perfect 1:1 or 1:2 ratio.

There are ratios for a reason. If you eyeball it adding too much water, the composition of the alginate can become too thin and flimsy in areas causing distortion and inaccuracies when the model is poured. It also messes with the expansion properties, making impressions less accurate. These companies write directions for a reason, but I'm sure they pale in comparison to all your years taking impressions.

It has to do with the wetting properties of the powder. You should “sprinkle” the powder (over 3-5 seconds) into the water. If you “dump” the water into a bowl of powder, little clumps will form at the spots where the water first contacts powder and you will not get as “pure” of a mix. If you read the sides of the container or the instruction insert it states the same. It is like mixing acid and water: only one way works correctly

I agree, that is the first thing I noticed....second, there should be stability when the tray is in the mouth...only supporting the tray with fingers on the bottom of the tray can allow for movement of the tray if the patient moves or the assistant moves. We stand behind the patient with feet squarely on the ground and slightly spread, rest on the chair to minimize assistant movement, when tray is in place our palms rest gently (bilaterally) near the zygoma; if the patient moves, we MOVE with the patient minimizing tray movement. Remember not to place pressure on the tray, the fingers merely support it so that the tray does not move.

That was fantastic thank you. Not sure if some folks understand this is the negative impression only. What were they wanting to see at the end -- bust you with a bubble hole hiding somewhere, looking down inside? Hehe, and I'm sorry... I'm all about safety especially after having costly cataract surgery to see well, but it just looks hilarious to me watching protective eyewear be required for this procedure elsewhere. How exactly did someone somewhere slop alginate in a patient's eye during this process, and exactly how severe was the injury? Other processes ok. But an alginate negative? Yeah, shooting range goggles XD
