My favorite song of my favorite group. I do not know how to thank you. I'm very happy. What a great emotion I feel listening to all the steps with the arrangement you've made! It is not easy to create this atmosphere using the guitar instead of the piano, which is a more orchestral instrument with all the harmonics it is able to produce. Thank you again. Hello from Italy, the country that has so loved the Genesis and continues to love their music.
@frankslade3310 ай бұрын
I was just watching this on piano and thinking I probably could arrange this for guitar, then thought "nah, so many slash chords, it's probably impossible to get it sounding good". I wish I hadn't double checked, now I have to learn it or constantly wonder why I'm not :) Because this is amazing. You even nailed that epic chord at 2.46. And what a song this is BTW. One of the greatest songs ever written I think.

Though it’s difficult to pick a single favourite Genesis song(Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, Firth of Fifth, Carpet Crawlers, Entangled, Mad Man Moon, Blood On The Rooftops are all up there), One For The Vine holds a special place for its mesmerizing imagery woven into a haunting tale of a spiritual/political leader’s rise and fall, from obscurity to revelation to quest, into myth and back to obscurity, after witnessing the torch being inadvertently passed to another “on a distant slope” “without hope”. There are so many layers and parallels of personal perseverance and disillusionment in this song, wrapped in a beautifully emotive composition with a brilliant arrangement. After 40 years of having it roll across these interior skies, it still gives me cause to shiver and reflect with wonderment upon it’s effects. How you managed to transcribe the entire song for one guitar is utterly beyond me; a daunting task and it speaks to the depth of meaning the song must have for you as well! Thank you so much for your hard work to bring this passion to fruition and sharing it with us all! I’m a big fan of Tony’s compositions as well as Steve Hackett’s. I play nylon, steel string, and vintage/newer guitar synths. More in an ambient dub vein; I doubt I’d ever even try to learn a tune such as this but I do have a great appreciation and gratitude for your efforts!! 🙏🏼 And to marticus - are you a member of The Musical Box?? If so, please please come play Saskatchewan! If you’re able, make it Saskatoon. I don’t live there but I’d most definitely travel for it, and you’d get the best audience there. They say Saskatoon has one of the most connected and supportive music scenes in Canada. It’s a small city but I would wholeheartedly agree!

That is outrageously good. The percussive, sort of flamenco parts in the middle are brilliant. I remember reading an interview at the time with TB, and he said he wanted to see how many different parts he could include in one song and still have it work as a song. There is so much in this, and you did it all. Fantastic achievement. I hope you had a drink after that one !

Thanks for your response. I'm a musician from Brazil and we and the bands that I played,used to be very famous in midia here, mainly in the 80's...for instance we opened the concert of Tina Turner in Maracanã stadium, but the reason I'm tolding that is first of all, don´t get me wrong cause I told you that, but in 88 we made a Genesis tribute with friends and great musicians for just 1 presentation, and all I know about guitar is studing Hackett, Howe and Gilmour. I'm not so brilliant as you but you really made it and touch my heart, even though you say there is some imperfections. Sorry that I told you my story but is only to way show you that you are one of the greatest musicians I've ever heard! I really feel that!
@hyperboreal6 жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks for your comment. If you got to open for Tina Turner in Maracana then you must be a more accomplished guitarist than me. I like a lot those guitarists you mention of course, but I also like guitarists and the music from your country too! Actually, I'm working at the very moment on a song by Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes. Lots of syncopated fun!

You have to know Toquinho (played with Vinicius when he was very young and did brilliant arrangements like "Tarde em Itapoã") and Baden Powell (RIP) too!
