Fantastic and hilarious video! I can't believe I didn't know about the infinity focus markings on some lenses in combination with their aperture number. You're the first video I've seen on the subject that mentions this!

I only have a question, you said that when it's very bright you can shoot with a tight aperture.well, when i want to shoot hyperfocal indoors or nighttime or on a dark environment what choices do i have? bigger ISO? light the scene? what's the best option? i really thank you.

Well you hit the nail on the head. You need either a much higher ISO and/or more light. The best option would be to light the scene because the higher the ISO the more grain but...more lights require a higher budget as you'll need high output lights (eg HMI's). But not, a sunlit day gives you 10,000 foot candles (fc). An overcast day, 100 fc. Inside, when I shoot, with soft box lights, it's usually around 80 to 160 fc. So 10,000 fc's is a lot!

So if i understood correctly, it's not such a big deal to exposure right at nighttime at f/8 or f/11 ? i will need approximately a 800 to 1700 lux light source witch isn't a huge light source ,am i right? sorry for comprehensive approach, but it is really worthy information for me! i really appreciate the info mr. @@Twisted_SoundNo problem at all. Love these questions. Bright sunlight, 100,000 Lux. To match that in a 1x1 meter square you would need 100,000 lumens at 1 meter away. If you're lighting a room that is 3x3 meters, 300,000 lumens. but that's with the light 1 meter away. If you intend to use hyperfocal distance, that means you intend to see and therefore light a very wide area. That would be a lot of lumens. An 18 watt HMI par lamp, if I'm calculating properly, puts out 150,000 lumens.

@@Twisted_Sound Yes, sorry, 1800 watts (I'll edit my post). It puts out 92 lumens per watt. And yes, it's difficult to light a night scene but don't be discouraged by lumens and lux and exposure. It's not easy. By the way, your footage, especially your night shoots, look fantastic. And, "ya su".

How is this applicable doing every scenario like you can't be taking pictures of people and take out a tape measure person will question how good you are as a photographer

This isn't photography though but film and video where you're recording continuously while the camera and the actors are moving. This means you may have to adjust focus during a shot. On a film set, the 1st AC measures every shot and marks each position the actor is at on their focus ring. Even on a static shot. Their main job during a take is maintaining focus.

im trying to figure out ho to do hyperfocal length for zoomed in portraits and it looks like its just not possible.. every time you zoom in the hyperfocal length and near focal length goes further into the background so you have to zoom all the way out and include the feet and then it works but if you just want a waist shot or something else then it doesnt work.. if you love bokeh then this is great but if you want the background in focus it just doesnt work ever..

Correct. The only way to get even close is to shoot at a super small aperture.

I would not trust someone more on youtube. And BTW, there are exceptions. Chuck Norris is always on focus, no matter what lens you have, how dark it is and how close he is.

We don't have a video on landscapes or wide lens. That is a tough subject, as the wider the lens, the smaller everything in the background gets, which means is the landscape.

Very good except the payoff, the hyperfocus distance, should have been slowly or more clearly defined at the nearest point in focus. Or did i get that wrong?

The hyperfocus distance is not the nearest point in focus. It is the point you focus on (the distance that point is from the camera). There is then an area in front of that point towards the camera that is in focus and an area behind it in focus, in this case, to infinity. The area in front of the hyperfocus distance, it's point nearest the camera that is in focus, would be the "nearest point" in focus. Let me know if that's helpful.
