Mack lap bars not only feel super secure on the ride, they are also very comfortable. Super glad that we have them on Hyperia.

The original Schwarzkopf looping roller coasters had lapbars, eg Thunder Looper at Alton Towers and The Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain. They were great to ride - no head banging and fteedom of movement.

Agreed, the Schwarzkopfs still ride really well too. Ahead of their time Oddly enough, my first ever inverting coaster was a Schwarzkopf looping star 😊

@@LoopThemeParkAdventuresMany were retrofitted with over the head restraints to appease a worrying public. The lapbar versus over the head debate has a long history. Lapbars are much more comfortable and perfectly safe.

Really interesting, great vid. I have a question, we were at alton towers yesterday and ive never known so many rides to close, i was just wondering what technical faults could they find on a coaster to close it? Im genuinely intrigued from a mechanical point of view, like what do they look at or what is it telling them the ride isnt safe at that point? It was a little frustrating but they were class and they gave us a free ticket each to use within a year so its all good..
@LoopThemeParkAdventures6 ай бұрын
Thanks! 😊 Without being an expert, there are many reasons a ride could be shut down - some technical, coasters have many sensitive sensors for various safety measures, but also for reasons unrelated to the ride systems, such as cleaning up if a guest has been unwell, or if CCTV faulters. Naturally there is wear and tear, general maintenance required too, and supply for parts has been slower post-covid.

@@Jinxxx_xxxx100% the only way they can open the lap bar when the train is not in the station is if they strap a battery pack 2 the train itself. It is impossible for the lap bar to open by itself. Hope that helps😊

We don't even to only go back 15 years for safe lap bars on inversions. Let's not forget Schwarzkopf only had lap bars on their shuttle loop coasters which started to be manufactured in 1977 (I remember Thunder Looper at Alton Towers), and Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain opened with lap bars too. Again, these were 70s lap bars, so not even built to the standards that are required (and far more stringent now). Maurer's X Car design that landed in 2005 on (Hey look, another UK coaster) G-Force at Drayton Manor only has lap bars and inversions too. Having ridden Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit I can say the restraints are fairly bulky, but even as a larger rider (just over 300lbs/138kg ish when I rode it) I was pleasantly shocked by how comfy they were, even with the whip on that non-inverting loop. I mean the ride was rough when I went in 2016, but the restraints were fine. Bear in mind the same time I rode Dragon Challenge and the (at the time) refurbished Hulk in B&M seats with OTSRs the X-Car seats felt more comfortable and just as safe. Again, riding Icon in 2019 as a "larger rider" (so just under 290lbs/130kg ish) the restraints were secure and comfortable. Modern restraint design is amazing, giving the open feeling you want with more safety than you need (not that redundancies are a bad thing). Riding coasters is a liberating experience, and even more so with lap bars.

@@LoopThemeParkAdventures ive always been scared of over the head restrains because they dont come all the way against your body like a lap restrain does, meaning with a over shoulder one theres still enough space for you to slide out if it hits a bend too aggressively

Basically the lap bar is safe because it grips round your hips which is the smallest part of your body that will anchor your whole body to the seat (over the shoulder restraints basically just go around your whole torso and it anchors you to the seat that way which can be uncomfortable and feel less free) . The lap bar is put all around your hips and waist (enough where it is impossible to slip out the sides (unless you are abnormally fat length ways and not width ways) and it is impossible to slip at the top and bottom because your ribs and rest your belly will stop you from slipping out, and your legs will stop you from slipping out in the other direction. I hope that helps a little, that’s what I thought when I braved riding velocicoaster.
