Always nice to see Bauer coming up with good protective now that their previous gen sticks suffered massively from a durability point of view. I always held their protective in high regard. I stopped playing tongue out as it caused severe lace bite, but since I switched, it's been nice and dandy. The issue here is though that if you skate tongue out, your shinguards are usually about an inch shorter (the open area on the sides between the bottom of the shinguards and the skates makes is like an open puck invitation .. ). I will say tho', as mentioned previously in another comment, that going the "frankenshin" route is likely what gives you that perfect setup, but at the cost of spending good hours experimenting. Instead of trying to find the best overall set of features vs. fit and go through numerous models, I'd rather recommend finding a set of shinguards that provides the most snug fit (emphasis on slim fit) and cushioning (i.e. just like the Bauer Supreme 2S Pro that provides great cushioning pads with contoured cutouts for an extremely great fit). Once you're happy with the overall fit and protection, it's time to just upgrade those straps w. better and wider velcro and add a s.. load of liquid rubber to all sides of both removable pads - as well as the side that faces your legs. Liquid rubber between the inner side of the shinguard and the removable foam adds additional friction that basically keeps the two parts from sliding caused by stretching from the velcro sewn into the fabric and connects to the shinguards. Liquid rubber that faces your legs keeps the shinguards from moving entirely as well, even if wet from sweat or taking a hit on the ice. As a final step, when securing the shinguards, make sure to place them about an inch higher up than normal, then secure those straps and finally push down the shinguards to the proper position. This step (or pre-tensioning) ensures that the small "give" that usually follows the skating is eliminated and you may thus skate for hours on the ice, fight for the puck and take a hit on the ice without ever being concerned about rotating or dropping shinguards. As an added benefit, you don't need tape - at all. I never use tape, ever, and the shinguards always stay perfectly in place. I highly recommend experimenting with the liquid rubber, it's such an awesome idea. Oh, almost forgot. Managed to secure 3 goals tonight and a took a huge hit to the head; such is life :)

Ouch, I’m familiar with getting hit in the head. Yah I’m impressed with these to not have to do anything to make em work, but some gear it’s helpful for sure. Straps to long etc. although the shins are good the hyperlite shoulders are ok but have some issues and the elbows are basically 2xpro and not great

Way to get this review out before any hyperlite protective is even on google, haha. I can’t find any info aside from your review! How much were they? May upgrade from my 2X regulars as the knee cap protection is pretty bad on them.

The knee is much better in these. But maintains the slim and mobile design. They were 189$ Canadian which is actually not bad at all

Hi Justin ! Have some cheaper 2x not pros and twice hurt my knee by falling on the knee cap..would would say knee protection is better on these? Or should I go with FT6 pro’s ? Looking for low profile with decent knee cap protection . Thanks and love the good work
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews 8 ай бұрын
I would go ft6. I’m actually trying to post that review just been sidelined The ft6 pro is a perfect blend of better protection and mobility. The hyperlite/ 2xpro shin line is really for mobility rec hockey and if you’re gonna take a fall or two isn’t great protection wise
@cchin27
@cchin27 2 жыл бұрын
Have you seen or tried the STX Surgeon RX3 shin guards? I’ve been looking at swapping out my Eastons. The Surgeon RX2 stuff I have for elbows and shoulders are super mobile and pretty decent protection. But I was able to try those on in the store. Since they’re direct now, it’s a harder decision. And I’d probably be looking at either the Hyperlites or the STX ones.

I haven’t tried any stx gear but wanted to but seems difficult to find and lacks much of a following I noticed. I’m not sure but seems like they aren’t greatly active these days. Perhaps to much competition

Overall comfort is better and coverage. The curve composite is gone but the new hyperlite tech covers more so you kinda choose which you prefer

I tried on the size 14's and they seem to be "intermediate" pads. The 15" wrap around the leg more (in addition to being an inch longer) and the calf protection covers much more of the calf compared to that big gaping hole in your vid. Confirming this, most places do not list 14" pads in senior, only in intermediate. Hope this helps people buying online!
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews 2 жыл бұрын
I keep shin guards very specific as Everytime I switch makes me nuts if it hit my skate or pants weird. The 14 says intermediate but was exactly same as 2xpro 14 so I went with it. I also have small calves so best to get a bigger size for sure if you have some calves to wrap!

Great video! Just curious but wouldn’t the 2x pro be more protective with the curve composite calf guard as opposed to the exo lite?
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews

The hyperlite design has better padding everywhere so from just protection overall is better. In terms of impact didn’t really test on curve vs eco lite calf guard

I use 14 because I prefer a small gap between my skates and shins and I go tongues out. I’m 5,9. I would consider how I size shins smaller I think most like them fitting a bit longer

Nope. Really? These are very streamlined. I had the Asv and those are huge and stick out. Hyperlite is small in comparison to most other shins which is why I prefer for beer league. Don’t need huge protection

CCMs are a great logn lasting shinpad for defensive players, the strapping could be improved but the shell is basically just the Jofa 6000 shinpads with a new name. The 6000 hard shell was one of the ultimate designs for the job they do.

Are you 14” from knee cap to top of skate boot? I measure closer to 15” but find the Bauer supreme shin pads I have now a bit bulky and clash into my pants (which are size medium) at times. 14” are technically too small for me based on Bauer’s size guide, but I was thinking of going down a size. Perhaps the hyperlites are more streamlined in general and I should stick with 15 to prevent gaps in protection. Welcome your thoughts.

I like shortly shins and use 14 but I could use 15 and I’m 5,9 I would suggest 15 for you I’d around my height since most probably don’t want a large gap. Also tongue in or out makes the decision different I have my tongues outside my shins

Great videos, keep them coming! When are you reviewing the rest of the Hyperlite gear line? Saw you wearing the pants in this video, considering ordering Hyperlite and FT4 Pro pants and shoulder pads and returning the ones I like less. Love when you have reviews - honest player's opinion, not a sponsored video by the retailer saying the exact same thing about every single piece of gear other than differentiating it by what skill level should buy them lol

@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews Nice! It's kind of funny, I went through a few different pieces of gear last year trying to find "perfect" aka light but protective. Didn't spend the money for the 2X Pro at the time but did settle on Bauer X3.7 - best shin guard line on the market for my legs at least. Wanted to like the CCM ones but Bauer's was perfect. Other then the shin guards it appears I don't care much for Bauer protective gear though lol. I had the same issue with their elbow pads, their Nexus shoulder pads were stupid bulky (felt like a football player out there), and the helmets end up hurting my head by the end of the game

Dude. Great videos. One thing though, tongues out aka the dirty flop, is when the tongue of the skate is showing on the outside of the shin pad. Tongues in, is what most people wear, when the tongue of the skate is under the shin pad. I’ve heard you say it the opposite way in a few vids. Rock on cheers
