There are plenty of tunes that play in my head when I read about or think of the outer space and anything in it. "Hyperspace" is one of them. Anorher one is "Alpha", by Vangelis. Yet another one is "Voyager", by Allister Brimble. Not to mention many synthwave tunes by artists like Starforce, Dynatron, Andromeda Dreams,... And probably my all times favorite tune: "Arisen", by Arksun (trance).

@@firstsomeonelastname42 What previous times are you talking about? I've heard about fan game projects like Project 6014, and there was also star control 3 and origins. But those were unrelated to the actual creators (and with that the actual canon), nonetheless this is fully funded for completion, and the entire team's full time job. They can't just abandon it on a whim, and have the full funding and game design planned to reliably see it to completion. I'm not sure this can really be compared to previous versions. If you're talking about toys for Bob making Ghosts of the Precursors, this IS that project.

@allenharper29289 жыл бұрын
Nah, he's just practicing the "Pkunk Death Blossom Maneuver". All joking aside, the Pkunk Fury was always one of my favorite ships to use... The aforementioned death blossom move, the constant transmission of insults to the enemy captain, its tendency to return to life an almost absurd number of times complete with hallelujah chorus... That baby had it all!
@christianponicki95819 жыл бұрын
allen harper My favorite was the VUX for a while; being guaranteed a spawn point right next to the enemy ship as well as having a crazy strong laser makes for good ambushes, and a barrage of those green slimes would totally eliminate the effectiveness of super light ships like the Pkunk or Arilou. The real problem with the VUX is its ridiculously sluggish nature; its turning radius is absurd and its top speed sub par, which makes it really hard to actually emerge alive from a flyby maneuver. That's probably the reason it wouldn't place so high on a tier list, and why I've since picked up the Androsynth.

I'm telling you man, this is one my most favorite video game themes. In SC2, there was no fast travel. The best you got was quasi-space, sort of a hyperspace above hyperspace, that game you exit portals in hyperspace in various spots around the star map, but you only get access to that mid to late game. One early mission, and an important one at that as the game would end if it wasn't completed by a certain date, had you travel from the sol system (kinda near the bottom) to a system almost at the top border of the HUGE map. I never measured how long it actually took, but it was a haul. What I would do was make sure I had all thruster slots equipped, then set autonav and play SNES until I got there. With all thrusters, you could outrun any other ships trying to make contact with you, be they friend or foe. I never turned the music down though. I love this theme.

The PC version is nostalgic but garbage. Imagine having to cram a full studio mix with 3-4 synths and a drum machine into a 2 channel 8 bit DAC ( Sound Blaster Pro ) with only 11 samples. They had to oscillate rapidly to even make chords, creating that jittery effect. The original lead/intro is simple sawtooth 4ths /synth lead and a little pitch bending on what appears to be a Roland D50. The 3DO version was re-created off of the original studio tracks in the same studio in Los Angeles (same hardware) a year later. The 3DO has a 8 channel 16 BIT DAC, so it can capture orders of magnitude more of the mix. I love the original as well, but as a musician, it's 8 bit chunky awful.
@tsm6883 жыл бұрын
It does have incredibly high nostalgia factor, as it gave digital music exposure across the worst 386es everywhere. This music worked with everything! Even adlib somehow! Even PC speaker! It was many people's first exposure to anything better than awful OPL2 stock instruments. It's also an incredible tune irrespective of its technical quality. Anyone trying to duplicate it (me included) quickly realized how complex it really was!
@mpichora4 ай бұрын
There are some pretty clear deviations in the 3DO version though. Some key changes you don't hear in the original. They're both pretty rad. I'd say 3DO has better drums, but the PC riffs slap harder.
@josephoberlander4 ай бұрын
@@mpichora That's only because there is no way to smooth out the D50's sound. So it sound more forward and punchy. But it wasn't meant to be that way. Just.. the PC and other machines were stuck with essentially 8 bit sound chips ( 12 bit isn't 16 bit - I have an old Yamaha 12 bit synth in my collection) until the advent of the Sound Blaster 64. The 3D0s claim to fame was having enough space to simply use samples. So I run the PC version with the 3DO samples added.
