sounds like the VA is over riding the American Heart association. HBP is 120/80 and over.

I was just approved for cognitive impairment secondary to service connected hypertension Hypertension can cause much damage to your body and if your hypertension is service connected any illness it causes can be service connected.

You’re wrong on the reading of systolic and diastolic. The BP is read as systolic (160) over diastolic (90). Not good for a law firm giving incorrect information.

Question on the BP numbers. My VA doc in the diagnosed me with Hypertension. That was maybe 10 years ago. After my heart attack, my hospital cardiologist put me on BP pills to drive it down under 120/80. My BP today is around 115/60 with 50 beats average. Have I disqualified myself for VA compensation? I just had my P&C exam but have no idea of the results by the PA.

For Hypertension rating, is that with medication or no medication.

If they establish service connection they will give a 0% rating. Then you can go for secondary claims those caused by the hypertension.

What if you take a medication such as Lisinopril so that you can't readily demonstrate the symptoms without discontinuing the medication?

Question, I received a diagosis both by PCM and VA but they never did 2 readings on the same day but did it based on a number of reading over various days (pattern). How shoudl I approach that with the C&P exam?

Cck is not responding to the simple question of vets taking meds to control their BP. Mine was nearly 200 100 until my cardiologist put me on many pills to lower to 115 50. Va denied. I wash cck would respond but perhaps you want your dollar meter fed first.

i need clarification on how to read the CFR for hypertension in the M21-1III_iv_4_SecE the va defines hypertension as "Hypertension means elevated diastolic blood pressure is predominantly 90mm or greater." Isolated systolic hypertension: means that systolic blood pressure is predominantly 160mm or greater with a diastolic blood pressure of less than 90mm. but in the 38 CFR 4.104, Diagnostic Code (DC) 7101, Note 1. under 7101 Hypertensive vascular disease (hypertension and isolated systolic hypertension): it uses "Diastolic" instead of "Systolic" to define hypertension and isolated hypertension is this an error? if this is not an error how can one be following both the definitions of "hypertension" and "isolated systolic hypertension" in M21-1III_iv_4_SecE and also following the two criteria in the 38 CFR 4.104, Diagnostic Code (DC) 7101, Note 1. , if we were to use the criteria in the M21-1III_iv_4_SecE isolated systolic hypertension then "diastolic Blood Pressure" should be "LESS" than 90MM but if we compare that to "38 CFR 4.104, Diagnostic Code (DC) 7101, Note 1." then "DIASTOLIC" needs to be "predominantly 100 or more" which would take us out of the original defintion of hypertension, i believe the use of "diastolic" in the note 1 is an error, could anyone clarify this???

I had epidurals for just over 3 years e ery 3 months. Does consistant use of steroids cause hypertension and diabetes ? I was wondering because I recently had to have a tripple bypass heart surgery. Thank you

I can get to 203-120 bp if I don’t take my meds but when I do it can cause migraines, dry cough, rashes, nausea so fml… I think I’ll die before I hit 50

What if I am on daily medication to control blood pressure but I am rated at 0 percent.

I’m in the same boat. Lost a kidney for which I’m rated service connected and BP went up immediately due to loss of kidney. They gave me service connected hypertension but 0% because I was on meds keeping it lower when rated.

Is there someone you can talk to that help you decide if you even should file a va claim. I was never one for going to sick call or the doctor so I've always toughed everything out. So I would have no evidence and nearly anything. I do have a few things I would like to talk to someone about with no strings attached if they could even qualify or if I'm just wasting my time. I've been out for al.ost two years now and I'm not good at any of this stuff.

I received 10% for hypertension for my systolic reading and I'm on 2 BP meds. Retroactive to 10 August 2022 but I had an AO claim denied from Aygust 2011. Should the VA use that as the retroactive date?

Unfortunately, though you might have a 0% for such a dangerous killer, now all you have to worry about are the side affects like GERD, which of course you can get rated for.

Hypertension seems to be one of the big catch-22s with the va. If you take meds, and it helps being your bp into normal range, they consider it normal and it’s 0%. Weird

Yep, HBP is one of the few categories where medication can be considered when the VA rates. Basically, if you're taking your medication and your BP is under 160/100 you're going to be placed at 0%. Since the whole point of medication is to keep your BP under control it's a tough one to get an actual compensatory amount.

That’s my blood pressure taking meds lol. Im usually 155 to 160 over 95
