The main reason why hypnondisc broke down a few times during extreme was that there was an electrical bug inside the machine due to a wiring error which means a wire that was in the wrong place which caused intermittent faults which dave rose explained in the hypno disc ultimate warrior dvd and it because of that it kept breaking down as a process, by the time series 5 came along, the the wires were fixed and the electrical bug was eliminated too.

Hypno-Disc's biggest weakness was they put to much focus on their weapon and didn't spend enough time engineering internally, they had far too many issues with their electrics, plus the design of their drive wasn't particularly strong. They were very good in attack when they worked, but take out the weapon and they're bang average.

As much as I love Hypno Disc being an S tier robot in the show, you're right about that being the biggest problem with Hypno Disc. They cared so much about the weapon too much that it left the bot overall in poor armour and protection with the electrics inside in also bad maintenance.

Hypno-Disc was one of the earliest designs with a flywheel weapon concept so shockproofing of the chassis & other components wasn't anywhere near as optimized as more modern designs such as Carbide & Tombstone

@@legoferrari14 For a modern take on flywheels like this, Depth Charge in the US is insane, it's repeatedly broken the the floor and walls of the arena they use and made them institute a speed limit on weapons so robots don't endanger the audience (250 mph tip speed).
