Hyrox have started recruiting & paying qualified PT judges for WallBalls specifically - 250 dollars, free entry and priority for future events and merch. This is just coming into effect in UK / Ireland markets

Great episode. Agree that crossfit and hyrox don't need to be mutually exclusive. Do one or the other, or do both. Fitness will be achieved either way. Voluntary suffering is good for all of us - the dose is key, not necessarily the medicine.

For the farmers carry, it's as much strategy for those (depending on their fitness) challenged by the weight, do you "run unbroken" which will then affect the following run? Or do you pace it a little bit and increase the run after a bit. Different athletes with different "strengths" may or may not be affected much by the FC, but it does add something (certainly something else could be done there though instead). The best point I think on FC is the fast/slow speed ranges, probably 90% of competitors range in the 90 second to 3 minute range, thus even if you are "slow" and put the KBs down 5 times, you are only losing a minute or two at most to the fastest groups. Regarding judging, the head judge, and training, for ALL groups are "told to be" the same standard... however obviously (in particular in Dallas but also Chicago and Toronto it was mentioned heavily) those standards weren't maintained out on the actual floor. THe "counter/cheerleader" for open divisions would be a fine partial solution, but it's not currently SUPPOSED to be that way, and other countries in particular are holding those standards more strictly than some of the N.A. races clearly have been able to *(not saying it wasn't INTENDED to be held, but (and this is from a judge in Dallas who wanted to uphold the standard) the desire didn't match the results (and it was true even in the pro races, FYI, some clear "no rep" quality wall balls being totally ignored on the pro, for money, heats, although probably not the leaders as those tended to be "guided in" personally by the head judges, but I witnessed all racers from all divisions getting "random quality" judging (my judge in the morning actually warned me about depth, and I was glad for it, as it's always my desire to "hold the standard")

CrossFit is a good base for Hyrox if for nothing else than the sleds. They are legit heavy. I’ve seen runners get absolutely bodied by both of those sleds to the point that it knocks them out of the race. If you can move the sleds and do 100 wall balls and have a good general fitness base you can accumulate the running volume fairly quickly

Completely agree, did my first one over the summer and immediately went looking for my next one and tried to figure out where I can gain time! Also the hype person was awesome at ours too, wasn’t expecting to be hit with the feels right before the race 😅

The more I hear about Hyrox, the more I'm convinced it is compressed and simplified OCR. It is a foot race with extra steps wrapped with hype and merchandising. Their descriptions sounded exactly like a Spartan race.

Passing lapped traffic and Ranked vs Quickplay were the best and most relatable part if the show lol. But seriously. I def agree with the sentiment that Hyrox doesnt FEEL like something id want ti continually and specifically train for. I did my first DC last March and will be doing my second this coming March. And I am doing a fair bit of soecific training to supplement our Gyms TTT affiliate programming. Theres so much time to be gained in running for me. Im hoping increasing my baseline running form with a lot of Zone 2, some higher speed / higher intensity and finally compromised running will be a good overall for my fitness

I think it’s more than the wall balls. The three stations with standards that seem to be missed are the Burpee’s, lunges, and wall balls. I am all for everyone getting their own workout in, however, if their name is going to go on a leaderboard next to yours, it is crucially important that everyone be held to the same standards.

@@ChimeraBlockhead sure yeah. Never said it was the best measure. Just strongly agree it’s more aptly called relative improvement versus stating it as general which is the consensus verbiage ie “oh do the open cause it measures improvement”

To keep a similar Stimulus in Form of an isometric Loading, a bearhug carry SB/D-Ball would be good, but nowhere something like Clean or an Dynamic Movements.

The 12 week plan Kyle mentioned that he wrote for his wife and Tracy are in ttt compete now. So if you sign up for one and wanna pivot for it for a bit you can just add that to your timeline in the app

A "wall ball" fix would be to raise the target and allow push press shots. Two hand throw, hit the target. Totally is not a "wall ball", but thats okay, for them....

I am also annoyed at how trendy it is. It’s boring, it’s really just a run with some equipment thrown in to make it seem interesting. I am not fooled!
