Best thing I did was start pelvic floor physiotherapy at 14 days, then I practiced daily - diaphragmatic breathing and scar tissue massage, then yoga type exercises after the first four weeks. I had total abdominal with an 8” scar (6” fibroid) so I really needed that, maybe not so much with laparoscopic.

I had a total Hysterectomy and stayed in Hospital for 7 days then home with rest and not lifting then couple more visits to surgeon to see how I was and then home but I found some problems mainly not able to have sex anymore with husband and dry inside so have to insert a cream twice a week but I had to have this as cancer cells and a tumor so yes get educated on any of these procedures and specially after the effects. It took me three months to get over this operation and i am in my late 60's.

Yes it is a big surgery. There are multiple factors that lead to someone having more pain. If it’s done in a minimally invasive way, going home to sleep in your own bed is often preferred

Thanks for sharing, is there a limit of the sizes of fibroids for the laparoscopic route, also would you recommend Triptorelin 11.25mg(not 3mg) 1-3 months prior to the operation for patients with family history of early osteoporosis? If it’s going to be operating abdominally, would Triptorelin still has a place please?

I’d like to hear more about the bleeding experience surrounding a supracervical hysterectomy (keeping cervix/removing uterus). That’s what I’m scheduled for.
@newschoolobgyn26 күн бұрын
Of course! I’ve got a lot of recent questions. I think it needs its own video to discuss. But in short, with Supracervical hysterectomy, there is a chance that small amount of endometrial cells still within the cervix that could cause continued future bleeding. Shouldn’t be heavy. But could be monthly, in that persons usual pattern.
@valeriebrown701726 күн бұрын
@@newschoolobgyn Thank you for responding! I look forward to seeing a future video on this! Fortunately my doctor was really supportive of my decision to keep my cervix after reviewing my existing OB medical history and having no concerns. Unfortunately this was the third doctor I had to see in order to help me make my finalized decision as the other doctors required that I remove my cervix. Although the thought of a cuff was pretty offputting for me, I wasn’t opposed to it. However I’m confident in my decision and I’m looking forward to a quicker recovery time. Minimal bleeding is expected and I’m ok with that if that is indeed the outcome.

Had my hysterectomy four days ago. Everything was good. No bowel prep, had clear liquids, and went home the same day. They gave me a pain block. I kept ovaries. I was fine until day three with constipation. So then I took laxatives and that was horrible. Had diarrhea the rest of the day. Slept and tonight I went for a walk. I’m tired but feeling fine otherwise. I did have some terrible back pain. Hoping everyday is a little better. I really hate opioids so went off those after two days. Thank you so much for doing this series. I'll have my procedure soon. I thought i would've been grossed out by the surgery videos but they were actually helpful. One of the things my doctor mentioned is dissecting the fibroid because it was too large to be removed vaginally. Not sure if you've touched on that in other videos. Thanks again 🙏🏽.

Thank you! And we are happy it helped. Yes sometimes the uterus or fibroids are so big we need to make it smaller to remove it and keep the surgery minimally invasive. We call this morcellation and it can be done in a number of ways! I will try and touch on it soon in the videos

@@newschoolobgynThere is a video out about a woman getting a morcellation done and it had spread cancerous cells throughout her body and she eventually passed away.
@newschoolobgyn4 ай бұрын
@@mar8888 Yep, this is why we put uterus or fibroids into a bag, so that every single microscopic piece of the specimen is removed 🙂 this way the 1 in 10,000 risk of undetected uterine cancer doesnt spread to the body. Since I have been practicing, we have been doing contained morcellation. Im very happy it is done this way, to avoid this very sad situation. I should make a video on this to help show how its done🙃

I think my large fibroids contributed to my chronic GI issues all these years. Now it has been 3 days post-op from having total laparascopic vaginal hysterectomy (kept ovaries) with a slight bladder lift and the gas in the colon area is the most intense part honestly. Every time I eat or drink water, I start spasming with gas. I think my stomach nerves are just irritated from years of chronic issues. Pain is minimal at the scar sites. Can walk and bend without much pain. The binder made the gas pain worse for me so I stopped wearing it for now. GasX and Colace and Miralax all helped me have #2 pretty soon, like day 2. But I also backed off that due to hyper-irritation of colon. Urinating caused some slight spasm at first but not now. #2 is worse with causing spasm for sure. Resting has made the most difference of all although I am getting bored LOL. Thankfully husband is home to be my caregiver. Hoping to have less gas pain as the days go on. Other than that, I feel decent for having my organs removed 😂

My operation is coming up soon and it seems like there is a wild amount of women writing about cuff tears (I guess that's the suture?). It almost sounds like a common occurrence and an pretty high risk. However, according to my gynecologist it's very rare and they never even heard of the term. It's quite terrifying, especially because these women often say they were not informed of the risk and how common it is. Can you shine some light on this? What % of women actually experience this and can you prevent it?
