Hyundai Genesis 3.8L 2012 Sedan; How to replace a bad car Battery (location Trunk)

This video shows you how I replaced the maintenance free (MF) car battery. It is located in the trunk. Procedure is pretty easy. Dealer wanted 300 to replace it and they were providing a 3 years warranty. However I decided to do it myself and save money. I bought the battery from Autozone for $152.99 and it comes with a 5 years warranty (3 years replacement and 4th and 5th years it pro-rata cost credit).

Great video and well done! Saw the vent tube which indicates you don not need an AGM battery, a flooded cell will be fine. One thing to point out for any car from a safety and electronic safeguard, always disconnect completely the negative post first and attach last, it keeps anything from shorting out. For those interested this group 49 battery is available at Walmart for $120 +/-, 5 year warranty, 3 year free replacement.

Just an add to the removal of the battery. There is a 10 mm nut on the hold down at the rear bottom, just loosen it and the battery will slide out and back in with no pounding. He is right on the battery replacement cost, I paid $159.00 for a new Interstate 920 amp 5 year replacement. Great vid, thanks, we have to get these since Hyundia is so tight about this car. Chilton nor Haynes has published a manual on this car yet, can't wait for that. Until then, KZbin has it going on. Thanks again..

Thanks this is very helpful to me. Only comment is I'm pretty sure you don't have to remove the spare, just remove the battery clamp bracket and it should lift right out. Thanks again for sharing this!

Also another tip I discovered, you can clip a battery to the jumper terminals under the front hood and not lose power to the system while you are changing the battery. This is easier than trying to connect to the battery terminals and keeps that piece completely out of your way as you work.

Great video...some auto parts stores won't replace your battery for you because they don't want the liability, saying that you have to disconnect in a certain sequence or it will disable the anti theft .

Oh, also I saw elsewhere that you can connect a battery tender to each terminal before you disconnect the battery. This will keep all your in memory settings preserved as you change the battery. Remove once the new battery is in and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the video. Just one question... Wouldn't it be easier to remove the battery mounting bracket rather than the spare tire? It would also reduce the effort required to slide the old battery out and pound the new one in. Well done though.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 3.8 when I turn on the AC and the radio. The car shuts down all of sudden when I'm driving. I've taken my car to the mechanic and could not find the problem why my car shuts down while I'm driving.

Hi, It happened to me as well. It was due to a misfire code I had. So I decided to change the spark plugs. However it didn’t fix the issue. Now I am thinking of replacing the ignition coils. Hopefully it will fix the issue if not I will check/clean/replace MAF and PCV. It could be due to emissions. This issue is intermittent and I have no codes. Current Mileage 183k Hopefully this helps. I will let you know once I work on it. Perhaps i will consider making a video. Thanks

Black Bean Chicken He means AGM battery. Absorbed Glass Mat. Premium type of battery costing quite a bit more but longer lasting.
