I have one of these......have had it now two weeks. It is a brand new blue drive model, and I have to say as someone who has worked on and driven hundreds of cars I am so impressed with the build quality, the comfort, the level of equipment, and the amazing amount of room inside. Yes I know it is not the fastest car on the road, but if you want speed buy a sports car. I for one love this vehicle, and like the idea that it is unusual. Everywhere you look there are Fords, Vauxhalls, Audi's, etc, but very few i40's and I like that. It is nice to be different. And please.......do not criticise this car until you have driven one. Like me, I think you will be very pleasantly surprised......... Update after 9 months. Car has now done 13,000 miles and apart from a clutch niggle when the weather is really cold it has been a joy to drive. It is so nice to drive, and everyone who has ridden in it has commented on how nice it looks and how good the ride is. They are still quite rare, the estate version is more popular but I prefer my saloon. Do I have any regrets?........NO. I still love this car and would replace it with another one when the time comes.

I couldn't agree more Steve. I've just been given one of these cars yesterday as a courtesy car and I'm absolutely amazed at the way it drives, it's build quality and specification. It's better to drive and has a higher spec than our Vauxhall Astra "Elite" despite the i40 only being an "Active" trim model. I used to think Hyundai were cheap & nasty, I was so wrong....

@benedictypx9 жыл бұрын
My dad drives a i40 and to be honest, it is a very smooth car and glides along bumps on the road. Its engine is very silent so the interior is practically almost sound proof. The car is indeed spacious, there is more than enough legroom and headroom at the back and front. This is indeed a very improved car from Hyundai

In Australia the Elantra is sold alongside the i30 as "Small" cars (with i20 and Accent as "light" cars) and i40 Sedan (Saloon) and Tourer (Wagon) are sold with the i45 Sedan (Saloon) as medium sized cars. The i45, Accent and Elantra were designed primarily for American, Asian and general markets, where as the i20, i30 and i40 were designed for European tastes. :)

Having owned one for 8 years I was very very sorry when I left it go. I traded it in for a beautiful Renault Megan’s Grancoupe automatic but I still misss it to this day. It was also an automatic with more BHP than the manual version. The one place where the Renault scores better is the fuel economy as it has a 1.5 Diesel engine the i40 was 1.7. I still miss those lines along the body when I looked in the door mirrors.

I beg to differ. Yea its no Mercedes, but Ford (the Euro division anyway) has bucket loads of automotive heritage to call on, and ST, RS, and Titanium models (or XRs and Ghias of the bygone era) are all cars lots of people genuinely aspire to

Doesn't have to be a transmission, it can also be an exhaust. Having a hump in the floor can also help contribute to the overall stiffness and rigidity of a car's structure. :)

Sonata here in the States and this "fluid" design is getting ole already, yet the Passats from years ago still look fresh and modern.
@bigcrowfly12 жыл бұрын
The bump in the floor in the back of cars is not a transmission tunnel, but a driveshaft tunnel. Any way this car does not have a driveshaft tunnel because it is front wheel drive. Tunnel is for exhaust pipes and other pipes and tubing.

I have a question about this car. The manual version 1.7 136bhp. On first gear the car feels so flat there's just no power what so ever is that normal? Only after the second gear you feel the turbo kicking in. Because in first gear the car seriously feels flat and just no power what so ever! Please reply!. Thank you.
@rossgoodwin27005 жыл бұрын
Alot of diesels have that. Petrol vehicles are quicker off the line or in first. A turbo diesel needs few seconds / a minute depending on the car to spool up. Your car is fine

Personally I would buy the Seat and if you are going to be carrying mountain bikes etc. It would be easier to carry them in the Seat unless you go for the i40 estate. You would get more equipment if you go for the Leon FR model but the i40 estate would have more space in the boot and in the back seats.

It doesn't do 62mpg,I had one for a week when my chevy was in for repair. I got 55ish mpg with very careful driving. Same diesel engine as I had. My Cruze does 50 mpg and will leave the Hyundai at the lights (mine 2ltr diesel) and done it leaving rep who thought he was in a bmw lol. Also handling a bit floppy in fast roundabouts. Plastics on lower dash scratch if you look at them. Eco version tyres mega bucks.

North Americans haven't liked estates/wagons since the '80s for some reason. It's a shame because I find German estate cars quite cool.
