Regarding HDA (highway driving assist), do the car *and* the driver *simultaneously* control the wheel? I recently rented a Hyundai Santa Fe, and I really liked how its steering-assistance system worked. In short, it doesn’t pretend to be a self-driving car: the driver always steers the car all the time, but the car does so too (when it can confidently do so). You’re always in-control, but if something distracts you, the chances are high that the car will steer itself correctly. It is a safety-backup system, not a fake self-driving system. Is that how it works on the Ioniq 5 too? From what I saw in this video, I *think* the answer is “yes.” Last I checked at least, Tesla Autopilot has distinct “car is driving” vs. “you are driving” modes. Yes, you still keep your hands on the wheel, ready to intervene, but if you provide too much steering input, Autopilot disengages. Why?
@cjsk2783
@cjsk2783 2 жыл бұрын
the car and the driver simultaneously control the wheel. It doesn't disengage even if you provide too much steering input. You have to exclusively push a button to disengage HDA2/LKA, so it's the same as Santa Fe

I have 2021 Santa Fe with all the active driving features, and I love it. However, if you see my comment above, I'm horrified by the stupidity of 'punishing' an inattentive driver by disengaging the active driving features. If the vehicle can maintain lane position, it most certainly has the capability to change a lane. If it can do that, it is unforgivable not to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder and bring it to a stop BEFORE deactivating!

A nice overview about the ioniq 5. Gives a good insight in the more important possibilities. But at 17:60... something is not completely correct. The trunk storage in front =57 liter.....this is NOT an AWD version. In the AWD versions this box is much smaller (however, my charging cable still fits within that smaller trunk) The towing capacity =1600kg....That's ONLY for an AWD version with big battery or in other words...a smaller trunk in front. (at least ...in my country and for the project 45 versions.)

Those are good questions; I watched a video on the Ioniq 5 that was made by a guy in New Jersey. He noted that you can actually use the car's app to instruct the main battery to warm itself, so that it takes a charge faster (apparently much, much faster). It won't be a consideration here in San Diego, but in many parts of the continent, it definitely will be.

@@kanehi I got one car from the linited project 45 version , no dealer markup possible. The price was fixed (for my country) at the worldwide presentation of the ioniq 5. (But afterwards I learned that getting one was only for those who reserved the car immediatly...within a few minutes after opening the side for reservations.). Also in my country the prices are written on the web side from hyundai , the dealer will not go higher than that.

I realize that I'm responding to your comment four months later, but...I was only in the market for 10 days. On day 3 I put a deposit on one, then turned it down when I was able to procure another one from a dealer that doesn't add on a "market adjustment" of several thousand dollars. The key seemed to be diligence, persistence, and homework. Oh, and it helped to be nimble enough to be ready to buy when the call came that the dealer had a car. They didn't take pre-orders there. They just had a list, and they'd call people on the list until they got a yes. They didn't even call the same person twice. If you missed the call, you missed the car.

In the event of a 12v discharge, it’s very unlikely that plugging in the J1772 charge cord will start charging, because all the control modules need 12v from the 12v battery before any charging can take place. Odd there is a manual release for the charge port door. Unless Hyundai added technology that would allow a fully discharged 12v battery to charge up just by plugging in charge port.
@RickLeBeau

Saw another video just today for this issue. There is an adaptor that looks like a battery pack attached to two traditional (red & black) clamps, like you'd use for jumpstarting a car. The video creator advised that you keep the adapter in the 'frunk', so you can charge the 12-volt battery for a very short period (less than a minute, I think), and then the 12-volt will re-link to the operating battery. Hope that makes sense- this is my novice interpretation.

All models of the Ioniq have pop out handles. What the lowest doesn't have is reclining foot rest, sliding console, head-up display, automatic back gate open and close, all four power seats (only driver's seat has power), driver seat memory. I have the lowest model (the SE) and it seems like every day I discover something ELSE it doesn't have. What it DOES have is the best range and that is why I bought it. It has 303 mi. of range. But, in a few years when range gets better on all models, I will trade it in for the top of the line and all those other wonderful features.

Depends on where you go. I got mine 10 days ago (May 24) for MSRP. But every other dealer in San Diego County was charging some version of what is referred to as a market adjustment. From what I could discern, $4K was the average markup on an SE, and $5K was standard markup over MSRP for the SEL and Limited versions. However, going north into Orange and L.A. Counties, it was possible to encounter dealers marking up as much as $13K.

I think Hyundai's approach to inattentive driving is IMMORAL! If the driver doesn't have his hands on the wheel and appears inattentive, he probably fell asleep. If you punish him by disengaging the active cruise control features, you just signed his (and possibly others) death warrants. The only correct solution in this scenario is to pull over onto the shoulder and bring the vehicle to a stop and shut it down.

@@mrxman581 My point exactly. These cars are capable of CHANGING LANES. If they can do that, they can pull over to the shoulder and stop. It's simply a matter of software coding. Choosing catastrophic failure now so you can sell a software upgrade tomorrow is outright IMMORAL in my book.

It's not the fault of consumers that they intuitively extrapolate from L1 to L2 and then L3. You have to hear it from a video or some other source to learn that it's called Fast Charging DC. People will learn quickly once they have the car. The next question, though, is what are they going to call Level-4 charging when it becomes available (assuming that this is possible, like 5G cell service seemed impossible to imagine 20 years ago.)

I am for sure no Tesla troll, I loved my first Ioniq, that car made so many things right, that the new Ioniq 5 doesn't. - Loading in winter is under 50 kW - you cannot use the plug-socket while loading - the heating is not properly working im winter, it just stays cold - the highway assistant has bugs - the laneasisstent let's the car shake constantly - the route/loading planner it a "joke", could be improved a lot :D - the driver seat is not properly fixed, it shakes/moves when you accelerate - while you are driving a turn the back of the car makes noises like an old wooden sailingship. - it is not that efficient There is a lot more stuff not working properly right no. They need to do a lot of software fixing.. It is like betatesting a Car for 60k Euros, I am really a true Ioniq fan, but right now I don't feel very happy with this car.

@@shaunmckenna1923 I guess the main problem with most tests is, that the testers have the cars only for some hours or a weekend. If you use it for a longer time period, then you will find out the flaws :D I am driving this car for several months now and I can assure you that I really hope that Hyundai will fix the software asap so that the flaws are gone. They already admitted that "coldgate" will be gone in an software update later this year. I am sorry, as I am mainly watching German youtubers about EVs I cannot give you any English speaking videos. check: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmPLhZKdg7tqmZY or kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHqqg6N_qZqtjpo for some of the stuff I was writing about. And yes, that missing wiper sucks :) the problem is new as Hyundai changed the design of the backwindow with some extra edge thing on the window, so it doesn't blow off the stuff correctly. It is a really nice car, but it would have been better to sell the first cars as beta like Volkswagen did with the ID3 when the software lacked, or they should have tested it in the snow :D

FIRST OFF - huge mistake - creating propriety charging adapters/means was the biggest blunder ever. Make these vehicles plug in to regular 120V receptacles. We already have the infrastructure - creating a whole new infrastructure to charge these vehicles consumes a huge amount of energy which negates the benefits of the EV for an extra amount of time. This also limits the consumer base.

Every commercially produced electric car can plug into an ordinary power point. You need a to use an EVSE portable charge cord with the right plug. The box in the cord tells the car what type of plug is on the cord and that tells the car the maximum current it is allowed to draw safely from that sort of outlet.
