It is so interesting. The increase/decrease of the autospeed is the same as in the classic Ioniq, the same for the lane assist, the slight left/right is the same 😀I have gotten so used to it, that I hardly notice anymore. And when it comes to all things software related, I hope that Hyundai hears the customers and does some changes in the OTA update.

Sounds like a great daily for me- you usually don't need huge trunk, you drive same route so navi is not so important and you don't have much time for listening symphonic music, but the car is comfortable, fast charging and you can "enjoy the silence" 😉 Let's hope hyundai will study Bjorn's test and in short time they will upgrade software. Great job, as usual!!!

Test drove one as I'm very interested. I currently have a Model 3 LR. The most striking detail about the Ioniq 6 is the build quality. It's immaculately built and so much quieter than my M3. It's not even close. I wish Tesla would put some emphasis into both. Once I find an AWD at MSRP I'm upgrading.

Interesting review. But, I challenge you to the pothole, you have not seen anything like the horrible roads we have here in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Also, is it possible that said heavier electric vehicles are making this worst?! :O. Not trying to stir up the crowd, but legit question. Our electric buses are at least 2.* heavier than their Diesel burning equivalent. I am off to try said Ioniq 6 this week and will be keeping an eye out for the auto-steeri, suspension feed back and steering feel.

Motorcars, even 2T EVs, are simply NOT the major cause of road damages. Look to your trucking industry; one large semi does the damage equivalent to thousands of 2T motorcars. Damage is to the fourth power of axle-load. Semis have 20-50 Tonnes over their 5-6 axles. Do the maths.

My very picky partner and my picky son liked the I6 and my son brought one (SE AWD or Preferred in Canada). He is loving it. Getting an average of 15.3 (4.1) efficiency even the mountains of British Columbia. My son is 6' 4" and the SE fits but he found the SEL (Ultimate) tight in the front seat. The back seat works for me with a longish torso (5'11") but not for him. I am on the wait list for the next one in town! We have tried Tesla and liked the Y but liked the Ioniq 6 more, especially since Tesla is going LFP in Canada and Canadian prices are not great. (love the Tesla charging and nav!!!)

I'm in the US. Word is that Hyundai are horrible to deal with at the dealership level. I just heard a comment that they think they are selling Bugatti. I bought a Tesla just so that i didn't have to deal with dealership pain and suffereing (MSRP+a boatload of add ons). It would be nice to buy other brands and not have to deal with crooks and cons (car salesmen).

Thanks Bjorn, I am a little disappointed in the efficiency of this car. The EPA numbers appeared to make it more efficient than the Model 3, but it doesn't look that way at all. I don't know how the EPA came up with those numbers. I was hoping this was going to set the efficiency bar, but looks like it isn't happening. I would hope Hyundai will update the software to address the preconditioning, and some of the other glitchy things you found. Hopefully software updates can fix some of this. This is one that I think will have to be followed to find out if Hyundai is going to improve the situation. I like buttons, they need to be actual buttons and knobs that you can reach and feel them without looking at them. Totally agree with you. You can't have "buttons" that aren't really buttons and you have to look away. There are some execution misses here. I think I have to give the nod to the M3 for efficiency. Lots of things I don't like about the M3, but I won't sacrifice efficiency.

I feel like this car has a lot of the compromises right especially considering it's quite reasonably priced. Fiddling with the sliders etc. on EV Database the sensible competitors seem to me to be the Tesla Model 3 and the VW ID.3 / Cupra. I think you've said it's noticeably more comfortable than the Model 3.. Does that also go for the ID.3? It's fair enough that some of the Mercedes and BMWs are smother etc. but then they're two of three times as much to buy so you jolly well ought to get plenty more luxury!

Be careful, South Korean batteries are unsafe and prone to fire due to a shared defect inherent in the design of LG's battery tech, which is licensed by all South Korean battery makers. This defect has accounted for the vast majority of battery related recalls in EVs, some 200,000 and counting. Buyer beware.
@yumyumlol-o7r

Now its ok. LG chem used to get membrane from SK on to seperate anode and cathode. But LG chem and SK on had some patents law suit problems with each other. (both LG chem and SK on are battery companies). So LG chem decided to get membrane from Chinese company. And Chinese membrane caused defect and caused fire. Now LG chem solved law suit issues with SK on and now using membranes from SK on. So no need to worry about LG chem's batteries.

Korean batteries are much safer than Chinese batteries. That's becasue most Korean batteries are NCM and Chinese are LFP. LFP is very unstable with high C-rate (from above 1 C rate) condition compare to NCM. This is why LFP batteries are not suitable in EV. But Chinese auto makers are keep using LFP batteries on their EV on outside Chinese market. Why?? That's because there are no way to avoid NCM manufacturing patents that own by Korean companies.
@wwbdwwbd
@wwbdwwbd Жыл бұрын
@@yumyumlol-o7r I don't know who taught you chemistry, but LFP is inherently much safer the NCM. This is a fact. It's also a fact is that an investigation conducted by NHTSA concluded that LG's pouch design (also used by Samsung SDI and SK on) is defective. Furthermore, this defect has not been resolved, which is why GM has put its new battery plant on hold indefinitely and is now looking to abandon LG's pouch design entirely. Frankly, the safety problems with South Korean batteries have been going on for almost half a decade, and nothing has been done to effectively address them. I suspect the problems will not be resolved anytime soon because the design defect is so deep rooted that it'd be cost prohibitive to come up with a proper solution. They could of course switch to a different design entirely, but that would mean paying hefty license fees to China and Japan, because South Korea's intellectual property in batteries is absolutely paltry. For example, of the total 9862 battery patents that are in effect worldwide, China holds 5486, Japan holds 1192, and South Korea has only 595. In fact, I suspect the reason South Korean battery makers stuck with LG's defective pouch design is because it's the only design for which they own the intellectual property and for which they don't have to pay expensive licensing fees. Please educate yourself before you comment on a subject that you very obviously know precious little about.
@yumyumlol-o7r
@yumyumlol-o7r Жыл бұрын
@@wwbdwwbd no. you don't know about battery industry at all. First of all, LFP is NOT safer than NCM in EV. LFP only safer in condition when C rate is 0 to1 . But when C rate gets above 1, LFP's safey decrease drasticallly that it gets unsafer than NCM. This is why LFP is not suitable in EV. And NHTSA did not concluded defect in design of battery itself. faulty batteries from manufacturing mistake have recalled already and problems are solved. And these faulty batteries are due to defect on membrane which are products from Chinese companies. And LG chem use Chinese membrane on cell manufacture only in LG's battery factory in China. And not all EV recalls are becasue of LG's battery. LG chem and Samsung SDI and SK on have been in risk of recalling EV because of product liability obligation. This means that even EV gets problem in BMS and potential of catching fire becasue of EV platform problem, battery companies must also have liability. this is why LG chem and other battery tech firms are picky on choosing custumers. Customers who are willing to use LG chem, SK on, Samsung SDI battery, customers must meet technical requirements that those three battery companies ask. This is why Mercedies and VW can't get enough supply from LG chem and SK on. Becasue Mercedes and VW are not matured in dealing EV yet.
@yumyumlol-o7r
@yumyumlol-o7r Жыл бұрын
@@wwbdwwbd You know NOTHING about battery industries at all! your statement of "the safety problems with South Korean batteries have been going on for almost half a decade" is completely false. and your entire satements about batteries are false. All the major battery problems from LG chem came from Chinese factory lines due to applicating Chinese membrane on cells. Korean batteries are way safer compare to Chinese. Even now, in China every day EV catching fire are comming out as issues. This is due to danger of applicaiton LFP on EV. I will teach you why Chinese battery firms are keeping their LFP in bussiness. The reason why CATL and BYD are keep going with their LFP is becasue they cannot avoid patents from three Korean battery tech firms. LG chem is holding about 25000 patents in NCM. SK on is holding about 25000 patents in NCM. Samsung SDI is holding about 20000 patetns in NCM. There are no way that CATL and BYD can avoid patents from those three korean tech firm in NCM. this is why CATL and BYD are trying to go with LFP sales outside china. CATL's 60 percent manufacures comes from LFP. And 40% from NCM. Becuase Chinese battery firms are hiring Korean engineers who worked in LG chem. This is how Chinese battery firms gained NCM battery tech. But those 40% with NCM are only for sales in China especially northern part of China (very cold region). This is possible because in China, they have weak concept of copyright. CATL is embezzling patents from LG chem to sale NCM in China. But CATL's embezzling patents outside of China does not work because LG chem can sue CATL. This is why CATL and BYD are keep going with LFP. CATL and BYD also acknowledged that LFP is not future. But they cannot go with NCM because all the patents that KOrean battery firm are holding. This is where CATL's Sodium ion battery investments came out. But due to fundemental of nature, Sodium ion battery cannot be future major battery in future...

I didn't see much hype for the I6 coming out of Europe and I dont think it will be a successful model for Hyundai in Europe. By European standards it's a useless car, just like Model 3. The Model 3 was still successful, but only because there were no options. Now that options are available, the M3 has fallen behind all the MEB cars and the Model Y. The I6 will not even take off, because of I5, Kona, EV6, Niro, MEB, etc. It's not as ugly as M3 or MY, but it is a very dull, boring and asian looking car. So, since it neither has practicality, nor affordability, nor the Tesla hype, nor styling going for it, who should buy it? I know, there are other markets like NA, where things are different, but I think in Europe this is a non-starter.
