I got this car for my wife, we drove to Switzerland from London on one tank of fuel, and on motor ways it has auto steer and braking which was amazing and a standard option. So was apple car play and tons of extra features which would of cost me a bundle in any German car. I absolutely love this car, and give it full thumbs up

Beboos American Deli & Gelato I filled up in London were I live, drove to Brussels, then Luxembourg then Germany then Switzerland over 3 days and cost me approximately £50 in petrol. Same journey back via France to my house was about £45 I can’t remember the toll charges in France and road tax in Switzerland which was not much. What was amazing is this car drove it self on the motorways which made driving a breeze, only problem was when it lost track of road line it just turns off no warning!! So you have to keep an eye out.

Having lived with one of these for 12 months, I can attest to it being a fantastic vehicle. The heated seats and steering wheel as standard is a massive bonus in the winter. The climate control uses the hybrid battery rather than the engine so it gets warm very quickly. The reason why the Hyundai badge is plastic at the front is that the radar for the cruise sits behind it. Mat seemed to overlook one of the best features of this car - it's semi-autonomous driving mode is awesome. On the motorway you can switch on lane keep assist and speed adaptive cruise and the car literally drives and steers itself. You can even choose how close you want to get to the car in front with a button. Granted it tells you off for taking your hands off the wheel, but I have driven from Yorkshire to the south coast via motorways without actually needing to do much at all apart from control at junctions :) As a long distance tourer this really is awesome. Economical, easy to drive, loads of toys, lovely digital dashboard, decent sat nav and comfy seats. I actually don't know how they do it for the money. Downsides - the engine is torquey, especially the electric engine, but the tyres aren't up to the job as they're eco ones. They wheelspin really easily so you have to be careful when pulling away quickly. The rear windscreen wiper missing is a PITA (although I use RainX on it to try and improvise), there's a noticeable echo when you use Apple Carplay to make phone calls for the person at the other end of the phone (it's improved since the firmware update recently, but it's still there - so you have to unplug from Carplay and use Bluetooth to make phone calls), because it's a hybrid you can't tow anything or put a roof rack or roof box on it - it's towing and roof load figures are 0 - which is a pain if you want to take 4 bikes anywhere. I have managed to get two in the boot but needed to put the back seats down. If I need to use the roof box I have to use my Skoda. Lastly - make sure your Hyundai dealer puts the service details into the car. Ours was so new Hyundai hadn't worked out the service interval so we didn't get the service details programmed in - so we overshot the first service. But all sorted now.

i still like the Golf GTE inside-out but if boot-space or the cabin room is still not enough in Golf worry not ! GTE version is also another option available for the bigger class and in the Passat GTE line can be choose between sedan and the wagon version and both are also equipped with a bit bigger battery pack and greater electric motors, so those are a bit more punchy and can travel a longer distance between charging points in full ev-mode.. but that is in case the Golf GTE is not enough.. in my case i would still get the Golf, for it's size is suffice for anything in my case, i tested it already at my local dealer-shop (and i kinda like the Golf dash better than Passat which also is a bit more pricey because available Passat GTE models in my area starts above 42.500 euros in my area..) But for the moment i also wait this year to see the Jaguar i-pace, that would be nicer but the price is the main concern and no problem if is not bigger than a Golf GTE then i would choose that instead of Golf GTE otherwise i will purchase the Golf GTE and that is the main reason why i didn't get the Golf GTE yet ! ;-)

I feel like this review was biased and strangely negative off the bat. Been a huge carwow fan for a while and I'd like to say i know Matt's review style but this video seemed negative from the get-go and it like he didn't give it a chance from the start. I feel features he usually praises or appreciates (I.e soft touch materials etc) were definitely down-played for their achievements. Also I think it's a shame and a little hypocritical that they made a video a while ago about how to correctly pronounce car company names and Hyundai was one of them but a shame he still pronounces it incorrectly "Hi-yoon-die" versus "hee-yun-day". A bit ironic and not a big deal but it's like c'mon now, you should practice what you preach. It's not a normal auto but a DSG, but on acceleration in auto mode the first 2 gears kinda short shift, so you get a slight jolt - much better in sport mode. Adaptive cruise-control and Active lane assist work pretty well too, even in our Baltic road conditions. Upper windows doesn't need a wiper because airflow over it keeps it clean but the lower part is pretty much all the time dirty and cannot be seen throught (at least in december)

What killed it for me when I test drove it was the bar across the back windshield for the spoiler. I ended up getting a Sonata Hybrid. Its bigger, easier to see out of but has a small cut to mileage compared to the Ioniq. Usually get about 40mpg everytime I drive it.
@mwwhatever Жыл бұрын
Had this car until I got rear-ended by someone staring at the phone and totalling it. It's a pretty great car. One of the main reasons I got it is for the Android auto/Apple Carplay. My only complaint with this car is the transmission. I wouldn't call it smooth, but the gas mileage is hard to complain about. I would also add that there actually is a place to keep the load cover in the plug in version, under the rear floor (which also is level with the rear seats folded down and probably easier to load things in and out of)

Could you be any more negative in your review? The reason that most people buy a hybrid vehicle is economy. We want something that is practicle yet comfortable as our daily commuter to and from work, which in many cases means that one or two people would be in the vehicle most of the time. Hyundai managed to deliver such a vehicle to the automotive market. Hyundai also backs up the battery pack of the Ionic with an 8 year warranty, along with the 10 year / 100k mile warrenty, which is something that is un-matched by most of the competitors.

It is more than all right, is the best car we have ever owned. Comfortable with individual air conditioning either side of car. Best, it gives 60mpg uphill & 70mpg downhill including the 7,600 ft Mescalero mountain we cross frequently. Your review is unwarrantedly bad.

Felt a extremely good car after driving this car.

I personally found the infotainment one of the best “touch-only” systems I have ever used. Also, the front badge is not plastic because of aerodynamics, but because there is the adaptive cruise control radar hidden underneath it.

Why not lift the headrest to prevent the head from touching the roof.

I possess an Ioniq 28 KWH Electric vehicle. While attempting to charge it using AC, the connection failed, and the car did not receive a charge. I encountered the same issue when trying CCS, and the cable appears to be in good condition. What might be causing this problem?

20 seconds in and it already looks 10 times better than the Prius

I don’t really understand why anyone would buy this over the PHEV or full EV versions. I suppose they are about £4K more but if you charge thee PHEV as much as you can then you’ll make up a lot of that over time. And you’ll have a far more fun car to drive if you buy the EV.
@AkarZaephyr7 жыл бұрын
Because single-trip range? :) If you're stuck 100% inside a city, yup, go for PHEV/EV.
@christill7 жыл бұрын
AkarZaephyr I think it’s mainly financial and whether people would make up the extra cost difference in fuel savings. Or environmental if you want to make more of a positive impact and you’re willing to pay more.
@AkarZaephyr7 жыл бұрын
Ah, true, there's the price difference, too.

Why is there such a big difference in fuel economy between the UK model and the US model? 74 mpg in the UK versus around 54-58 in the States.

One more time for the folks in the back -- and just because the BEV doesn't have its own Mat Watson video: it's totally fine (so far) that EVs cost more up-front than their petrol and diesel counterparts, because they cost next to NOTHING to run and maintain. My 2020 Hyundai Ioniq BEV costs just over 1 cent Canadian per km to charge at current kilowatt prices, and I visit my mechanic 1/3 as often. The main weak spot appears to be the 12-volt battery that powers the lights and the infotainment system. Add to that: Korean manufacturers make the most efficient models for winter use. ICE efficiency takes a roughly 20% hit in a true four-season climate too, but nobody seems to mention that.

Why are you only considering the Ioniq and Niro... They seem to be much better cars than that rating and I'd much rather get them over a Prius for sure
@ReaperChi3f7 жыл бұрын
Because they are strong competitors and usually reviewers are sponsored by certain manufacturers.

Before watching this review, I already knew he was going to trash the car. Anything non european will almost always be put down. I have a Lexus ct200 and can't wait to move onto the Ioniq. Why can't these guys just give us an honest unbiased review ?
