I was thinking of buying an Audi A5 for my 40th birthday next year. Now this Palisade has become a real competitor for my garage's spot.

For those wanting an SUV of this size, the Palisade is extremely impressive, in that 'All American' way as experienced when our family was young as we rode in our massive car in plush (but affordable) luxury in Kentucky. Those were the days [pre first 'Oil Shock'] when the U.S. still produced such vehicles en masse, and Hyundai has reflected this tradition to a treat. Thanks Tom for the very good video & 'putting up' with my reminiscing.

Interesting you say that. I was watching thinking this is much more US style than Japanese. An American bus with Korean reliability is attractive.

I spent some time growing up in the US in the back of a Yukon XL Denali with captain's chairs … that has probably coloured my view on this matter. But they work well!

We like it too! Although White exterior comes with burgundy coloured interior and we are yet to see one live.

Tend to agree. A car reviewer one said if you took the badges off a Hyundai and I have an Audi and got someone who doesn’t know anything about cars to sit in each they definitely would be able to tell the difference with the equipment

@@mgrant011 until you put price into perspective then the conclusion might surprise you. Say given the same budget you shop a base model stripped out European luxury brands car say base x5 with 2lt engine and no options, comparing to full fledged top of the line Hyundai or Toyota.

Once again Tom, a very enjoyable review of a very nice looking large SUV. Even though the diesal drives and handles better then the petrol due to it being AWD, is the petrol version still a pleasant drive or is it a bit uncomfortable due to only being FWD?

Thanks, James. The petrol is pleasant … to a point. If you need to accelerate even moderately quickly in the wet, the front wheels get very slippy.

Be aware, there are currently 2-3 week delays in Hyundai Australia actually supplying this vehicle as there is an electronic module that requires changing that Hyundai will not release a vehicle without but are not telling customers about up front...

Brilliant review Tom👍🏻. Had a question around the Highlander spec as have recently booked one in black with burgundy interior. I had previously booked a Kia Sorento GTLine AWD which had ambient lighting throughout the cabin but since it's been in waiting for more than 10 months now I decided to look at other options. Does the Palisade have any such ambient lighting in the cabin as have always done a test drive during the daytime. Would appreciate a response. Agree it's a bigger vehicle with certain tradeoffs compared to a Sorento but I went more for the space on offer with the 7 seat config.

Thanks Mani - Kia are still pouring cold water on the suggestion that they bring the Telluride to Australia, which is sad - I think the Telluride looks brilliant.

Also missing from the Aussie market is the Subie Ascent. I wonder if both were available in Aus if the Palisade price would be lower? I still think the Palisade beats both alternatives.

Nice review. I was actually waiting for this car. But bit disappointed that, not only they have stripped several features from US model, but also put a higher price tag. I would rather wait few more months for new Toyota Kluger hybrid.

Unless you need to go seriously off-road, the Palisade is easily superior in terms of refinement, comfort, efficiency, and packaging

@@chasingcars Did you give consideration to the Prado KDSS system, air rear suspension and adjustable struts ? How would you compare the dynamics on road with the swaybar system in the Kakadu vs the palisade? I would have thought the Kakadu would win that one. And what about the Toyota dealer network, parts supply and aftermarket options, that’s something that will take time for Hyundai to catch up on.

I do like it but the engines are inadequate. Where's the Genesis 3.5T engine, or their 3.0 diesel? Totally should have used that.

This comes with what I think is the same Lambda II donk as the Genesis G80 so yea the turbo version would be a winner. Odd how companies operate. It's not like it wouldn't fit, maybe a front wheel drive transmission issue?

Transverse versus longitudinal - some packaging concerns I believe. Would be interesting to determine if the 3.5T petrol V6 could in fact fit - but even if it could I doubt they'd give it to the Palisade. A bigger diesel would be great, though.

@@chasingcars more keeping high beam on whilst blanking out oncoming cars and cars you're behind - like what matrix LEDs have. Many manufacturers have it but they don't call it what makes sense. AFAIK Mazda has AFS or something which does this, Ford has glare reduction, and so on. Kia and Hyundai don't have any extra phrases on it.

@Siquan Wu it’s different this engine is a 3.5 v6 from the Santa Fe and in America it’s a 3.8 v6 and also a petrol engine doesn’t make any sense for a car like this

And don’t forget there is no proven reliability yet, I’ve noted a few issues popping up on FB palisade groups, yes it may be 1 in 100 vehicles however I expect this is something that will need to run its course as they work out a few kinks, probably a great option to purchase in a few years .... but by then I hope we can just buy full EV SUVs like Rivian, in the meantime I think it’s Prado Kakadu for us

The interior layout is a lot smarter than tightly-packaged second rows that need to be tilted forward - and often the kerb side isn't on the right side (though in the Palisade 8 seater the kerbside access has been converted for RHD, it should be said).

Family car ??? Luckily I live on a continent where every family has, by statistics, 1.something kid in general. Useless car! But, statistics agin, we are continent with a very old population, so maybe this car is ment to sit in horizontal. That would make sense.

Some families are big, some are small. The big ones will appreciate a car like this. Interestingly, the Palisade is still a fair amount shorter than some rivals. It's under 5m in length.
