Definitely do not...very fault ridden. My daughters has 86k miles on it, has has the entire coolant system replaced, a blown head gasket, and not HPCU controller issues. Also, don't take anything to any Firestone for repairs, they suck in general.

I really appreciate it. I own an HEV/EV repair shop. The communication problem I figure maybe because battery was a little low. Anyways my only code is the HCU keep saying engjne failed to start. I am going to give it a shot at replacing it I had to charge up the hybrid battery.

@@hyundaitech I actually turned it by hand it was normal. Hey I really appreciate your effort. I figured it out. This is customer story we all like to hear a nice unfortunate story from customers. She said she was driving down the freeway and all the sudden car quit on her. At first she called me how much to change battery, so I gave her a price. I guess my quoted was not affordable to her so she tried to get some regular mechanic to look at it. Of course they won’t figure that out nor will they ever get it going hybrid pack is less than 20 percent so it won’t even go ready. It had some communication code just like your video but I think it is due to aux battery being low. I saved and cleared all codes to see which ones comes back. The only one kept coming back is same code as the one on your video (engine failed to start and the source is HCU Low Dc. Within a few seconds of starting car the HEV code pops up. I turned engine twice to make sure it’s mechanically sound and it was. Check all fuses and they were all good no blown fuse. So I started canvassing for a new inverter maybe it’s just like your video, then I’m like thinking she let someone else’s look at it. She tried to tell me they did not do anything but came to find out they put a fuse in the wrong spot !!!! The 10 amp fuse for the HEV is place where there should not be a fuse. Lesson learned here finally when someone else’s has looked at the car. Expect some dumb things to happen, heck I sometimes do dumb things myself 😂😂😂. Finally I am not gonna ask why her car quit all of the sudden. With hybrid I experience my car quitting : years ago. Towed it to my house and when it got to my house everything is normal again that was 3 years ago then I used my car to Uber for and added another 70 thousand miles in a matter of months problem never came back. To this day it’s an unsolved mystery 😳😳. It’s like my car went to the Bermuda Triangle and aliens made it not start lol 😂

2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid error code P0A78 Screen is flashing Hybrid System Warning Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. I already replace the high voltage relay assembly behind rear seat. Car has new engine from warranty 4 months ago. Reading Results Is also saying check charging system measure 273 volts at the battery terminals I am reading 268 volts with the engine running. A)Measured 1 ohm from ground to all three connections on EV Motor power invertor cable B)Measured 3 Meg ohm from ground to all three connections on Motor Control Unit MCU -under air intake Thinking about replacing the Motor Control Unit? Have you scene this before, any pointers?🙄 My simple scan tool can only read code P0A78

Hi i havent seen that code yet and thank you for your detail inspection. What i noticed that you said that you measure 1 ohm from ground to all 3 phases wires to the motor? Thats not good meaning you have short to ground to that circuit. If its short to ground that motor, it needs new motor, unfortunately thats the whole assembly with the transmission. Let me know

​@@hyundaitech I will double check my notes against a couple of spec sheets. Replacing the tranny even used sounds expensive. I guess for the hybrid both the gas engine and the electric engine connect to the wheels via the suspected transmission. Hyundai replaced the engine under warranty up to 150K miles. However the warranty does not cover the Hybrid portion as car is at 128K miles. Seems either bad transmission or bad MCU. Based on you response looks like the hybrid motor which might be integrated in the transmission if I am thinking about this correctly? Thanks for your response, if you could drop any other tid bits of knowledge 😀😀on which might help me i would appreciate it HIGHLY. .😇😇 Hyundai wanted 1900 for the relay assembly AND would not guarantee this would fix issue, so I replaced my self for 250 plus 1 hour time. Thank you Again

I have a 2016 sonata hybrid and it's having a obd2 code U0111 and it's intermittent car losses power suddenly and all the lights come on and once I restart every light goes away except the check engine light, after 3 cycles pf restarting the car the check engine light goes away, this problem still occurs intermittently, dealer says they can't diagnose if the issue is intermittent.

I would suggest try to wiggle test or check proper connection going to the hybrid control unit.

I have 2017 Hyundai Sonata SE HYBRID My vehicle does not start and it is giving the following codes: Battery Management System - Codes : 4 P1B96 P1BA7 P1B25 P1B77 OBDII Codes ($03) - Codes : 3 P1B96 | Manufacture Specific P1B25 | Manufacture Specific P1B77 | Manufacture Specific OBDII Permanenet Codes ($0A) - Codes : 1 P1B77 | Manufacture Specific The dealer has checked the Safety Switch (High Voltage Fuse) which is working as it is showing continuity. They also replaced the Power Relay Assembly. The vehicle still does not start. What is your suggestion. Thanks in advance.

I remember theres a bulletin for the relay malfunction on those models. Let them check the high voltage relay for that.

How often the hpcu go bad on these ...if i pull one fron the junyard will it need to be reprogrammed?

This is my 2nd or 3rd hpcu for my 10 years working in hyundai/genesis. They dont usually go bad, they go bad maybe reverse boost? Wrong programming. But if you plan to get from a used one, it just needs some calibration, if i remembee correctly theres no programming just calibration.

I been having an issue with my 2013 Hyundai sonata hybrid I towed to my local Hyundai dealership and ran my bill to $1900 and still had to tow back home without starting they stated the fuel pump was bad and I replaced that wasn't the problem at one point the car would start and turn off in like a quick second

They have to check if theres code on it? Is the engine when running normal? No abnormal noise?

@@hyundaitech from what I know they fixed all the recalls updated ECM but before that the car would start for a quick second and then shut down they cleaned my fuel system checked compression and now the car doesn't do anything

@@Joe-hs5uv you mean after everything the car wont do anything? Like it doesnt go to ready mode? Ignition on but only lights on the cluster, maybe something happen in the programming. I would suggest if they can communicate to all modules, and see if there stored codes coz for sure there will be codes. I had one car that the car will only go ready mode after 3 times of try to start the vehicle.

@@hyundaitech yeah I was able to switch the drive mode on the steering wheel and switch to power from the battery and it would start quick and shut off then the ready would blink after I got my car back I switched the fuel pump since that was a problem and the didn't do anything no more like before now the ready stays on but won't crank ocer the only code that's coming now is a sensor for the gas peddle but nothing else

@@Joe-hs5uv you mean no crank like the engine wont run? Can you try turn the crank just to eliminate the possibility of engine seize? If the engine turns by turning the crank just do visual inspection on the accerator pedal, and ask the mechanic to check power and ground going to accelerator pedal and let them do the sweep test to see the signal coming out from the accelerator pedal. And also sometimes sensors or components like to blame one another, maybe the throttle body fault is blaming that theres something wrong in the accelerator pedal. Let me know

Thanks for the video. I have a 2014 sonata hybrid that shut off on interstate after a quick stop. alarm sounded but no HEV warning. Check engine light was left on. Advance Auto scanner read nothing. light went off after a couple more cold starts. car died two more times and took it to the dealer. they read a bunch of codes. c1612, b1112, b1102, b2500, b1234, c1611, pb170, c1612, c1236, c1102. the only other odd thing is that the car will lag/drag slightly when coming out of ev and going to engine when driving a constant speed. The ready light will also flash once or twice. It seems to be much worse now after the dealer the only thing they did was updated the BMS software for the p1B70. they could not capture any faults while driving. not sure where to go from this point

For p1b70 thats for low voltage on the high voltage, and some of the codes are lost or can time out for the transmission control module. Double check battery condition the 12 volt battery. If its good make sure that during ready mode atleast it reads 14 volts. And i would suggest to check on the bms side for the high voltage reading, atleast should register 270 volts if not something going on the battery assy. And also double check safety plug. And i advice to have proper equipment if you gonna check this yourself since you are dealing with high voltage.

@@hyundaitech Thanks, after the car got worse a few weeks later. Dealer reported a couple cells were bad and possibly the BMS. I ended up replacing the batt asmbly and cars runs fine now.

What i know in hyundai the used module like powertrain is cannot be program in two differnet vehicle. Maybe you can try outsource if they can virginize the used module and try to program, usually i just order brand new module since i work in the dealer. Hahaha.

If I change this power control unit, I need delete errors with special computer ? Or I can only change control unit and car start ? Because o don’t what happened and car doesn’t start. 2016 Sonata Hybrid Check HEV System As I was driving on the highway last week, the check HEV system warning light came on, then check engine and other warning lights as well.. As I tried to get off the road. The car skipped and I started losing engine power and then the brakes suddenly slammed on and the car immediately shut off. Had the vehicle towed to the local dealership; they captured error codes. For two years we had problem with the HEV light coming on and even after transmission replacement the problem still exists this time nearly killing us while losing all power and shutting off in the travel lane. Since the dealership was unable to repeat the problem, they released the car back to me and a week later it gappened again. Now they want to replace intake manafild and egr valve for $2k. Please help find a solution

I wonder why they let go of the vehicle amd what codes they recovered? Did they atleast check battery? Charging voltage? Any recall done, i know those models has recall for high voltage relay.

@Hyundai Tech they checked all. Codes were communication codes. No recall that they could see. I asked about engine and transmission.they released because they couldn't replicate the problem. I can go a week or so, then it does it again. It's random

You can try the GIT company, we usually just order from head office but i know the compang name is GIT. Or you can use the aftermarket one like their top of the line.

i have 2012 sonota fuse is good in back, changed generator and HPCU aux batt brand new car has no codes car runs but say check hybrid system wont charge aux battery i calibrated HPCU bleed water pump for it, has brand new engine and 3rd brandnew transmission fuse on top of battery is good only thing not checked is hybrid batt relay doing that next no codes tho and it runs

Hi, i would suggest to your mechanic or whoever is working your car to check the power relay on the battery for any signs of crack or burn marks, and also check the high voltage fuse. Note just to be careful coz you are dealing with high voltage. Hope that helps

Excellent video very informative. My 2012 Optima will not start SOC is 23%, cell 47/48 0V. Nothing on charge indicator on dash? I am in the process of changing all modules & replacing the suspected module. Code P1B74 was only code. Do you think it's the BMS not traction battery?

I would suggest check the safety plug first, the orange connector. If its good, yeah most likely the battery assy, and if you decide to replace the battery i think you should also change the battery management module. Hope that helps.

Great job man ,lots of comments ,i have a check charging system on a 2012 sonata hybrid ,the power checked out the fuse was updayed to 150amp and cell when i checked them with meters set to 200 it reads 27 or 26 on all cells ,whare can i get proper test procedure ,,how did u know the inverter needed to be changed ,,help.

Hi so in this video thats why i replace the inverter assy or the hpcu its because theres no communication for that component itself. I dont know whats the 27 or 26 your are reading maybe 2.7 volts? If it is, thats the minimum voltage for every battery cell. Maybe you can start checking the safety plug , and then the PRA, for the information yiu can get like from all data, or mitchel. Hope that helps.

You need wiring diagram, basically the code is telling you that either the hsg is faulty, the hybrid control unit, or theres an open in the circuit. I would suggest to try use scantool to perform resolver calibration, then try some wiggle test carefully to check for open circuit. Hope that helps

I just had my 2017 Hyundai sonata hybrid SE engine replaced due to engine recall…do u think I will have any issues with this new engine…did they fix the issues that caused the recall? What caused this to happen in the first place…something about a engine bearing I think or what?

That really depends its either the piston bearing or crankshaft bearing, and for the new engine im not sure but its different part number from the original so usually what i know if its new part number its a improve apart. Hope that helps.

My car is a Kia Optima Hybrid and it has a possible condition in the hybrid system but it is removed in 2 seconds. It appears on occasions, what could it be?

I think the best way is to scan the vehicle and see if theres any history codes.

Looks like you have voltage issue coming out from the main relay i believe. I would start checking battery voltage, then check the main relay for power and ground. I think its located to the engine bay fuse.box.

Hey Marko after tracing my ground problem I believe it is in the fuse box. Do wires need to be cut if I replace it? Have you replaced one before?

I have not replace fuse box in the engine bay before, only the ems box, some of them i open them coz the bottom part of the fuse box was chewed by animals.

As per code criteria theres either open or short to battery for the crash signal wire. I dont know why it sets on the bms module side, i dont see the connection. The wire is connected from airbag module and the body control module. If you have wiring diagram you can trace the wire and do a continuity check or check for short to battery. Hope that helps

I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata with 108K miles which is exhibiting the following codes' C164208, P1A6F, P0B38, P0B40, P0B45, P0B40, P0B4A, P0B54, P0B59, P0B63, P1877, B100552. These are a lot of codes. My vehicle won't start even though hybrid battery say 60% when dash lit up. Can you point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for your help

Hi there, most of your codes are pertaining to the sense coltage sensor in the hybrid battery. I would recommend to check the PRA relay assy or main fuse in that high voltage system. If you are working on your own vehicle i will just remind you to have proper equipment before doing this job like proper gloves and proper procedure. Hope that helps

I have a 2016 Sonata Hybrid SE. The airbag light is on and when I scan the only code that came up is C164308 CAN Time-Out Yaw &G Sensor. Is there a connection with this and the airbag? And is it an easy fix? Thanks in advance for your help.

Good day Sir, please I have 2012 Hyundai sonata hybrid (Korea). The oil warning light keeps turning on and off and I've changed the oil pump and sensor but the problem still exist. I'm kind of confused now... Can you please help me out?

Oil pump like you mean the balnace shaft? The one at the bottom of the engine?, for the sensor, which sensor is that? Oil pressure sensor? Have you change your filter original.

@@richieosei7605 that component is the timing chain cover right? The oil pump is part of the balance shaft. But before you go further, if you have a oil pressure gauge, amd if you can hook up that gauge to where the oil pressure sensor you should have atleast 17 psi at 1000rpm of not atleast you confirm you have pressure problem and not wiring problem in my opinion. Theres no engine noise right? Coz if you have engine noise its pointless to do the oil pump. You have no recall for those engines in korea?

Unless you have a wiring issue, that when the engine stop theres enough vibration that the signal of the oil pressure will touch to ground. Did you check actual oil pressure? Maybe you can try remove the connector for the oil pressure switch, ignition on check your instrument cluster if the oil pressure light is on or off (it should be off since you unplug it, i think) if its on meaning you have short to ground on that circuit.

I think check wiring diagram for the hca, i dont know whats hca. Then you check your power and fround for the module then next check communication hi and low if theres communication

I have a 2013 sonata hybrid error code U0111 car wont star ready ligth wont came on ,battery level empty.hybrid battery is at 270 12v battery is good power relay is good power fuse is also good what easlse could cause the car not to start?? ..

You have to address the issue for u code, thats why wont start maybe computers/module not.communicating.

@@rccorcoles7082 so you have open circuit for the c can high, either you have to look for that open wire, or try jumping a wire for that concern wire and see if the issue improve.

What software are you using to access the codes? I hooked mine up to a regular OBD2 scanner and it shows no error codes.

generic obd2 scantool cant read data especially on the enhance side of the system like hybrid system. you need something that has capability to scan all the modules, you can check thinktool, autel

I think that would probably be a good investment, since all of the mechanics I've checked want $100 to $150 for a diagnosis. Between that and the tow...😮

Hey man i have 4 codes that popped up for me that i need help on left me stranded P1326 U0293 U1004 P0420 Any help would be really be appreciated

looks like those 2 U codes you have you communication error on your hybrid control module. for the p1326 i think thats knock sensor code, check crankshaft rotation if it rotates or any knocking noise before. as long you have good power and ground and communication going to hybrid control unit i think its time put a new one in my opinion. hope that helps

lol bunch of junk. The environmental waste to produce the EV battery. The danger to first responders when this junk gets in a wreck. The expense of repairs. What are people thinking who buy these things?!

Waaooww, usually those systems are very sensitive. What does it says on the cluster? Like the orange wrench is on? Check engine light? The scantool you use capable to read the hybrid system?

@@dabz3318 thats weird man, usually if you have like a hybrid warning message even tho it turns off later on it will still register on a history code in my opinion. Do you have any symptoms when the hybrid warning message turns on? Does it affect your driving?

@@hyundaitech yes it goes on limp mode and decelerate. When you press on gas, it doesn’t respond at all. Sometimes, it drives normal even with the warning one.

I’ve checked the 12 V battery no issue. I suspect it’s some sort of wiring.
