Very informative, and entertaining, watching you get to the root cause of the problem. I hope the customer gave you the job, and if so, that we can ride along for the repair! Keep up the solid work, thanks for another GREAT video!

I know I'm a year and change late to the party but... I'm a aircraft tech that grew up working on cars in my dad's shop. I ran into the same issue on my Sonata. I went about it a little differently and with happy home owner crappy tools. Came to same conclusion as you did just took a little longer. Lol. Great job man! Just found your channel while looking for a video on how fuel pump comes out. Most of the time I don't listen to idiots on KZbin I just watch to see where and how it comes out. With you my friend... I will leave the volume on! Your not one of the normal idiots on here! Thanks! Look forward to seeing AND LISTENING to your videos.

Watched you while looking at mom's car. Already checked fuse and swapped starter relay for ultimate check. Without your fancy scantool, but your brilliant hypothesis and your findings of the correct resistance, the only other thing I could think to do was check the positive battery terminal that was shielded by a plastic cover. I lifted the cover to find massive corrosion and burnt plastic. Installed new terminal and the compressor is behaving. Will get a good voltmeter next just to check amperage. You Rock! from Clermont, FL

Another great video what I like the best is Eric finding a the true cause of the problem. One comment was about the expensive tools he uses BUT if you watch and listen with a test light and an Ohm meter you can do many of the same tests with simple tools. No I can't see waves, etc but at least find a direction. Now to find a lab coat to send and one of Ivans head lights.

SMA tee shirt - Ohm's law is NOT just a suggestion. Summarized by the better half's wow in sarcastic undertones = priceless stuff as usual. Wordplay with first observation being it's not intermittent. End wrap up we have a 3 ohm coil now at 1.5 and I'm thinking it didn't leave the factory like that. So just because we don't see it changing resistance it's not intermittent? Just a difference in time scale of observation window here. Sorry, in my book it's intermittent with an obvious tendency towards constant symptoms. And being intermittent it is unreliable and simply has to go. Silver play button is rapidly approaching - congrats as you well deserve it. Top drawer entertainment value every time.

You totally made the right call to hook up the current probe early. This is a non-obvious failure to the backyard mechanic because the new fuse fixed it and the clutch still works. So the average joe wouldn't necessarily expect the clutch. Sadly I noticed its also apparently leaking oil right into the alternator. Way to go Hyundai. They seem to get 95% of it right and just fall on their face for the last 5%.

My hf air compressor kept blowing my cigarette lighter fuse. I "upgraded" to 15a and life was good. After many years, ive lost and replaced said compressor with jumppack w/comp. Never thinking about that 15a fuse till now, thanks Dr. O. I will be downgrading soon. #trueconfessions
@martystevens39696 жыл бұрын
saulns Sometimes a cigarette lighter can blow a fuse by shorting internally. The element itself can short and blow the fuse. Replace the whole thing. On a Ford, the new one comes with spade terminal and the old had a stem in the center. You might have to install a female connector on the wire. The new has the female connector on the inner shell.

Eric- I know you know this, but I'll point it out for other viewers here- in our part of the Country (Upstate, NY) and elsewhere- having a fully functional AC is also important for the cold Season. The HVAC system also operates in HOT Defrost mode, to quickly heat and dry the cabin air, preventing it from frosting the _inside_ glass, as well as the outside of the windshield, without totally relying on the engine temperature being hot.

I am glad you mention to look to see if there is anything else running off the same fuse. On my E250 I have the DRL (Daytime running light) that run off of the same fuse as the compressor clutch. Great video buddy. Here is a Question. Is there a way to preserve a car's brake rotors so they don't rust to crap during none use. I have 16000 miles on our plow truck and the garage says I need to replace all four rotors and pads.

windings either shorted to each other, or shorted to ground somewhere which would effectively shorten the length of the winding reducing the resistance.

I started to think, What if YOU were lucky enough to have Eric as your mechanic? Holy crap .. 1. Your car would be diagnosed correctly. 2. The Repair would NEVER endanger you, or more importantly, your family. 3. The repair bill would be so honest, you would give Eric " the ole reach around" (sorry 'bout that last bit). Since he lives in an awful climate, there is no fear that masses will move to upstate new york so there will not be a population shift. Eric (hopefully, as awareness spreads) will cause the car repair industry to change.

NO, the current draw created by the clutch has nothing to do with the load of the compressor. Good question!
