Neat job my friend! those back plates are quite expensive and I can't understand why! $130 us dollars each here. My actuator mechanism for the parking brake is sized badly, this job doing it my self with the rear bearing will run me around $600 The whole car does not worth 2k dollars but I like it. It's got 225k miles now and still running fine

I recovered two backing plates from the junk yard, rust converted then painted them. About $15 each. Paid in time since I had to pull everything apart in the yard at lease on once side since I do need a bearing for the drivers side. 4 7 mm bolts to take the backing plate off and it did came off.

Thank you for the video. Im doing this to 05 Optima. Backing plates totally eaten away. Lousy metal. Had to buy oem as aftermarket not offered. Repainted with high temp ceramic paint for extra rust protection.

FYI...just bought a complete spindle/knuckle assy on ebay @ 88$ CDN (great deal right ??) buttttt.... I realize when I got it that a V6 3.3(the donor wreck) vs a 2.4 (my car) is a different rotor/ backplate dimensions! ! even thought the listing on ebay said compatible with a 2.4 sonata . Sooooo..... dont repeat my error guys ! ! and, PLEASEEEEE... dont trust compatibility listing on ebay...Just a frienddly advise here...! Dennis here, from Montreal region CANADA

Replacing the spindle knuckle on a 13. This video saved my life. Thanks! PS: Screw the engineers at Hyundai for such a shitty design!

there is a white plastic cup over the 4 bolts that hold on the backing plate hub assembly, is there a trick to removing this white plastic cover? I didn't see it mentioned in the video and am afraid to damage it.

Working on the rear hubs and rotors for my nephew. The brake backing plate assembly disintegrated when removing the hub assembly. Anyone know where you can get the backing plate assembly? Amazon has one side in stock, the other side is 1 to 3 months delivery.

will a bad parking break cause vibration when braking? I have a vibration when braking, checked the ties and ball joints, they are fine. I have already replaced the brakes and rotors in the front. Any ideas?
@mikesgarage15187 жыл бұрын
If the parking brake shoe was dragging I would think it would happen all the time and not just while braking. Have you tried rotating the wheel by hand with the car off the ground?
@leedress21876 жыл бұрын
did you have to take the whole hub off to do the parking shoes? I managed to do one side of one with the hub on. but it was a bit*h. I'm dreading going back in there.
@mikesgarage15186 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you don't have to remove the hub but it makes it a lot easier.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the video. I bought a used Sonata and replaced myself the rear pads and rotors. While the car was off ground the shoe brake dragged a little on the rotor and I thought that is how it should be. Today after 25 min highway drive i smelled rubber from that wheel so I think it could be the shoe brake need to be adjusted. My question what is the best adjustment for the shoe brake? should it not to be dragging at all on rotor so i turn the adjustment wheel like the way you did in the video till there is zero dragging?
@mikesgarage15187 жыл бұрын
Hi I can only advise based on what I have learned from others. Drag should be minimal such as a small amount of noise from contact but no restriction to moment. I had a heat issue after changing pad and rotors on this this car but it turned out to be the caliper sticking so I have to replace those.
@minaabdelmalek89027 жыл бұрын
How to know that caliper is sticking?
@mikesgarage15187 жыл бұрын
When you replaced the pads, did the caliper retract easily? I would try raising the wheel and confirm it spins freely. Also the wheel will be hot after driving if the caliper or parking brake is sticking.

I tried last night to adjust the parking brake but I couldn't see the sprocket and I don't have the right tool. Could you please tell me what tool will be suitable and how to do it? here's my email if you have any sketches mina.malek@outlook.com
@mikesgarage15187 жыл бұрын
Hi I use either a small 90 deg pick or flat blade screwdriver and a flashlight to find the sprocket. I don't have any sketches but a Google image search should bring some up.

I do have a slide hammer should the hub removal challenge me. Would U have more recommendations in order to accomplish this job ? Planning to buy brake shoes and hardware but not a new brake cable. Should I remove the ABS sensor? Hope the hub/bearing assy is not rustwelded to the plate ! ...I only have 135,000Kms and antirust treated every year. Please add Ur recommendations THKS!
