great video. Just did this and it all worked out. Thanks. Waiting for a part to arrive and then I can do the other side. Both rear bearings started making noise at the same time after about 10 years on the car.

The setup is pretty much exactly the same on my Hyundai I30 FD 2009 model (Australia). The only difference was the first bolt removed in the video to get the arm out of the way to access caliper bolt was in the other way around. This meant that I had to remove the shock absorber bolt as well, holding the spring tension with the jack as I did so. Of course, one of the rotors was seized on which took an extra hour or so of stuffing around. Other than that, job went pretty well. Thank You for the Video.

Any tips for removing the hub assembly from the backing plate/hand brake assembly? Mines stuck together ans i cant separate it?
@autodocuk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! The replacement of such units can sometimes be difficult due to sticking and souring of the most of mountings during the car operation. To do it correctly, one neads have experience. We recommend that you use lubricants to make dismantling easier, as well as to follow step-by-step instruction as the video shows, and you will surely manage to do it. Best regards, Autodoc Team.

I had a couple of rear hub assemblies that were rusted in place. The answer for me was to use a slide hammer attached to the lug nuts to extract them. It is nice to have a vehicle that is not all rusted up to work on. When you reassemble the vehicle use some anti seize compound to prevent a recurrence of the problem.

@@autodocuk I have the same question and my car is the same as the car in this video, so can i separate the bearing and replace it or do i have to replace the whole thing
@testuser31675 жыл бұрын
@@lighto2240 On the rear bearings for this model (4th Gen Hyundai Elantra), they don't sell the rear bearing as a separate item, only as a complete assembly with the hub attached. The front ones you can buy separately and then go through the hassle of separating the bearing race from the hub if you like/pressing it back into the wheel knuckle then pressing the hub in, but not on the rears.
@lighto22405 жыл бұрын
@@testuser3167 Thank you, That's what I did I bought the bearing for the front wheel separately then I gave it to a workshop to do the pressing work for a negligible amount of money, but unfortunately the hub was damaged and needed replacing too so I replaced both of them

The front is a bit more involved but nothing you can't do in your driveway with the right tools and safety equipment. Instead of simply replacing the outer bearing housing as with the rear, you will need to pull a snap ring and push the front bearing out of the carrier then replace and reinstall everything. You can also purchase new outers with the bearing already pressed in (highly recommended) and just swap it out.
@testuser31675 жыл бұрын
@@auxpower13 I thought that too, and I bought the hub/spindles with bearings as a full kit to do my wife's car -- opening the box showed the bearing was separate, and after thinking about it, the bearing really should be pressed into the steering knuckle first, before pressing the hub back in, or you'd risk damaging the bearing and need to do this job again prematurely! When pressing the bearing into the knuckle, only apply force to the outer race, and then once it is in place, use an installer press with an adapter to only apply force to the inner race while pressing the hub into place, and I sure hope it can be done in the driveway, 'cause I'm in the middle of this job! *Quick tip: Place the bearing AND the spindle hub into the freezer, but put them into separate bags (after greasing them first!), and when ready to install, pull out the bearing and press it into place, then get the spindle hub out of the freezer and press it into place after the bearing has warmed up to ambient temp. If you're replacing them in pairs, you can alternate sides to save time waiting for warm ups.*
