Thanks for your help with this. This video helped me replace the little bushing that only costs like 9 bucks on Amazon. Saved me close to $400 in service. The clanking is gone and I’m back to driving my 2013 Sonata for a little while longer. The hardest part was getting the hook from the steering wheel back where it belonged.
@JodyBruchon Жыл бұрын
I did it alone until it was hooking time. That part really was the absolute worst, especially in winter. Thank you for the super thanks and I'm vert happy to have helped. Most videos of the process were unclear or difficult to follow or seemed to omit critical parts so I gleaned all the info I could and made my own.

Thank you for being so detailed and humorous!! GREAT video!! I have to do this for my friend's 2012 Sonata. I will be cursing Hyundai often and listening to music as I'm doing this job.

18:11 "its way harder than it should be honestly" that pretty much sums up alot of repairs on modern vehicles. So many jobs on newer cars are like this, replacing a $10 part requires $300+ in labor because half the interior has to come apart to do it. My favorite engineer "i aint gotta work on it" fail is late 90's-early 2000's GM trucks (s-10 & fullsize) 9-11hrs labor to replace a $35 heater core because the entire dash assembly has to be removed from the truck, especially annoying since they knew how to do better the generation of trucks before that heater core could be done in 45 mins.

I just came from the Hyundai Dealership she told me it wasn’t under warranty anymore 😢 . I can’t wait to fix it and get rid of this annoying rattle !

Thanks for this video. After looking further it seems Hyundai has extended the warranty of the MDPS of certain elantra and sonata models to 10 years because of this issue. If anyone is having these issues, see about contacting a dealership to get the repairs done for free

Given how annoying the work was alone for me, I absolutely would recommend this.

So did this fix the wheel from vibrating really hard sometimes?
@JodyBruchon Жыл бұрын
It's the same issue, yes. Some cars just make a loud clunk when you change directions while others will shake the wheel. Different models and years seem to react differently.

Well I live in Korea and I went in to get my steering checked I have a Hyundai I 30 and when I left they said it was OK but I found one of these steering coupler‘s on my floor below my steering wheel so I went back and they don’t speak English they just told me it’s OK go so I was always worried maybe they didn’t put it back when they checked but if I’m having no problem my steering I must have one of these couplers in correct Or I would definitely know about it right
@JodyBruchon2 жыл бұрын
It can't fall out of your MDPS motor without this entire disassembly being done. If you found one, it's almost certainly not from your car.
@pinkpaws62092 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was just wondering because they checked it and put it back so I just thought maybe they forgot the place that in but I would probably know it when I drive right
@pinkpaws62092 жыл бұрын
They did Dissemble it and checked it so I just wondered because I found one of those after they get my car back

Did you get an EPS Light when this problem began? I have an EPS light on my 10’ Elantra and pretty sure it’s the same problem. The noise and the clicking are exactly like yours.
@JodyBruchon3 жыл бұрын
No, just some horrible clunking steering.
@S_xpreme2 жыл бұрын
I have an eps light did you ever find out if it was the same problem?

How long can I drive with this problem?
@JodyBruchon3 жыл бұрын
It's not likely to damage the vehicle, but it's extremely annoying and may present a bit of a safety hazard since the steering will be a tad sloppy and shaky.
@chrisbryand3599 Жыл бұрын
I’m hoping this little piece really takes away the vibrating im hoping this little piece will save me! It’s rattling good sometime but I think it’s just super worn I hope. I def get the click but would this going out also cause a vibration in the wheel as it degrades?

Can you just take it out and drive without it
@JodyBruchon2 жыл бұрын
Nope, if you do then the wheel will shake very loudly and you won't want to even try to drive. Besides, if you really take it this far apart, there's no reason not to replace it.
