The stock pipes unmodified are too quiet for me. I also looked at the construction of the exhaust and noticed the stock pipes have the baffle around the center of the pipe and have a plate in the center to force the exhaust to go through the baffle. I drilled out the plat. It's a tad loud, but now it has this interesting dynamic where under low load, low-RPM it's somewhat baffled, but high-load, high-RPM it screams. Still better than straight pipe, but it makes the stock system much better. I'm wondering if I should get a stock forty-eight set because I do love the look the forty-eight pipes.

@spitescorner, a trick i have found to removing the filter, as far as the oil goes, is to take a 1 gallon oil jug and cut the side out of it, place the gallon jug under the bike to catch the oil, use the big peice you cut off the side of the jug to wrap around the filter as a funnel. You will still get a little in the bike, but it ain't bad. The jugs are easy to move around and under too, as well as pour out into a larger container. Im not paying harley for the fancy funnel.

I've always enjoyed your content, but now I've become a devoted follower. Your choice in motorcycle components is impeccable. I recently acquired a pristine, all-original 2015 Ducati Scrambler Classic, and immediately my fellow riders began suggesting aftermarket exhausts, championing the 'loud pipes save lives' mantra and recommending SC Project systems. However, I had to decline. Firstly, Switzerland's stringent regulations on aftermarket exhausts drive prices roughly 30% higher than elsewhere in Europe, especially the brands I prefer like Termignoni, Akrapovič or LeoVince . More importantly, while I appreciate the allure of a deeper exhaust note, our roads are already saturated with excessive noise. I've chosen not to contribute to this growing disturbance.

Stock exhaust is a bit goofy looking, but if you drill out buffles (1" long bit), it'll sound wicked. Just like SE, even better, only you won't have to waste $200. Pullback risers with peanut tank, 5" height minimum. If you don't want to bother with mixing and matching, you can get Low Rider ST take-off set. There are plenty on ebay, Risers, bars, speedo mount. Plug and play pretty much. All you need is mech throttle adapter thingy. I personally prefer 1-2" cut. Diff length because right side is shorter. And the tuner with stock exhaust? It makes absolutely zero difference. On this motor to feel anything, you need at least a cam. Funny enough, you can totally wake up 883. But 1200, it does nothing. I ran Tunder Max with exhaust and Intake... Standalone $1100 ECU. Got extra 2 HP. Torque curve improved a bit, but that's it. You won't feel it.

@@vincentbeijing6926 I don't think so. At least I didn't. It was a bit peppier down low, that's about it. Unless you put a cam in, you won't feel much difference on 1200. Also, if you go the ThunderMax route, you need an exhaust with 18mm O2 bungs to accommodate wide band O2 sensors that come with the max.

@spitescorner15 күн бұрын
Evos live a long time because they have very loose tolerances and relatively low operating temperatures. If you're looking for one around $4500 you can find fuel injected 883s in great shape or decent fuel injected 1200s all day. Carbbed (pre-07) models will go for even less. Just check your local craigslist or FB marketplace. You'll find one.

The second-hand exhaust you installed is missing a bracket. There is a chrome bracket assembly that is bolted to the large pulley cover bolt and holds the back exhaust pipe solid. I am getting ready to install Biltwell Tracker handlebars on my 48. Waiting on an Iron 883 front brake line so I can still use the factory turn signals. Spite, nice bike ❤. I use EBC HH sintered pads. Lot more stopping power and better modulation even with the stock master cylinder. Stock pipes are mounted to the engine only, you are missing an L shaped bracket on rear of pulley cover, and clamp that holds the rear header pipe, thus it shakes more. Congrats with the SE mufflers, stock headers are the best scavenging ones unless you are going to replace cams and/or increase displacement. I personally would leave stock W cams in place, all available aftermarket increase horsepower but rob low end torque. Well, Hammer's 575 Jackhammer cams are the only exception I know of, but then you are in for a set of new springs to handle increased lift as well. If you are up to increasing budget this way, you'll get 7000 RPMs revving engine. Good luck with your mods.

@marksmallman457216 күн бұрын

@fishwithlungs16 күн бұрын
@@spitescorner Yes, you are missing an L-shaped bracket and a clamp around rear header. That clamp hugs rear header under heat shield, and connects to the bracket via T-bolt. The bracket itself is bolted by the first bolt you removed when taking the cover off. There isa dimple on bracket, its bump fits into that smaller hole rearwards of that bolt. Bracket Part# 65500025, 2pc Clamp 65440-06 and 65441-06, bolt and nut 5414 and 7862. All OEM part numbers, you are welcome. Something more, when you put the pulley cover back, it is better to snug all 3 bolts first, then tighten rear and top, bottom last. Reason for this is that the lower bolt runs through channel/spacer in the cover, if that is too tight, the belt will rub on the inside of cover right there. Ask me how I know :) Recheck oil level right after ride, these gravity fed oil pumps have nasty habit of letting the oil through if the bike sat still long enough ,to the point that oil tank might look empty, all oil being in the sump. Normally it should take 2.7 quarts. Optimal though is having oil level in the middle or lower on the dipstick, bike on kickstand, otherwise you most probably find the extra oil in air cleaner.

You sacrifice low end for volume. Unless you're at the top end of the power band all the time you're losing power.
@AlunaFlutes16 күн бұрын
I can only speculate on what Spite's reasons are; but in my own experience with them, the bracket tends to crack along the bolt holes. I had V&H send a replacement bracket and that one also developed the same crack. I don't know if its bad metallurgy or just bad design, but I'm not the only one whose had that issue.

I added shot shots to my Sportster. They were pretty loud….almost too loud. Lol
@spitescorner15 күн бұрын
That's half of why I got rid of them. I felt like a dick starting it up in my neighborhood in the morning. But also you lose a lot of power in the low and mid range.

Never seen anyone put the stock exhaust back on a Harley 😂 You are absolutely 100 percent right though, "shit-shots" is by far the tackiest and worst exhaust for any Harley

Really? I really liked them on my sporty. All blacked out too. Looked go to, so I thought.
@spitescorner15 күн бұрын
They look good, sure, but they sacrifice power on a motor that needs all the help it can get. The right call for a performance build is a 2-1 system. The stock setup is temporary

@firefighter1c5716 күн бұрын
My first oil change on my VRod I broke the jaws on a pair of slip joint filter pliers, a screwdriver handle I was using as a chisel, a strap wrench, and ended up cutting the filter to the base, and pounding that off with an air hammer... my bike was a demo and thus serviced by the HD dealer I bought it from...

If you want to improve the seating triangle you might bring up that saddle to where it actually belongs. Get its underside in line with the tanks underside. But hey, what do I know. I’m European.
@spitescorner16 күн бұрын
That's why I'm going to try the stock seat again, but I have a feeling I'm still going to want one that's even taller
@marcbrasse74716 күн бұрын
@@spitescorner I really get where you are coming from. That triangle is so important. I recently 3 times rewelded some M-style bars I had lying around to get a more integrated feel on my near stock Honda NT65GT Hawk. A former owner had put higher bars on it but that felt too passieve. On another NT, a true sports special, I went the whole way with a heightened seat and rearsets but if you want to keep the original footpegs you can overdo it with making the bars too low. Which your remarks reminded me of. Anyway: with this bike it was again all worth it because I now feel much more connected to it.
