This video needs to come with a warning label, because it will become addictive if you follow the advice. 5 of the 6 bikes that I own are the direct result of following these same principles of buying a bike with a few problems, well below market value, with simple fixes that the previous owner couldn't be bothered to do. And Spite's garage is full of testaments to the addiction. And the addiction will not stop there. There will be tools. So many tools.And stands. And lifts. And more...

The woman I was dating married me in part for three steps: when I told her she didn't need something that came off her car with confidence (she confirmed it later), when I replaced spark plugs with no concern and showed her how to gap them, and when I told her that she could replace her own headlights, but if she needed me I would help. And I did, because her VW New Beetle required taking out the battery to replace the left headlight (the assembly needed to slide back). She got her PhD in chemistry: she not only could do stuff, she actively wanted to learn to do stuff. And THAT is why I married her.

Nice one!😂 On my Guzzi v7, though, the stock pipes just had to go. They were huge, like two chromed funnels from the Titanic. Was worried it’d run too lean, but a friend/mechanic said the ECU would automatically adjust for that🤔. Anyway, 20k miles later theres no problem and even if it’s slower (which I doubt) it certainly looks and sounds faster!

Hey sprite. Please read this. i highly recommend doing a compression test and use a bore cam to look for scoring on the ducatis cylinders walls. I know it feels fine. Hopefully you caught it early enough. Unlike me. I am going through this right now on my new 848evo. Got it running just like you. very Similar problem with an aftermarket exhaust and no tune. Though it was fixed and perfect. No smoke and made great power. after about 1000 miles. i realized it felt a tiny bit sluggish at lower rpms, Compared to a friends Bike. It wasnt a big difference, After doing a compression test the Horizontal cylinder made 130psi. it should have 180-210. The cylinder bore was Scored and rings were quickly Wearing out. When the Bike was running extremely rich. The fuel was washing the Oil off the rings and cylinder walls. creating scoring. Unfortunately Once damage is done, it's only gonna get worse. Taking to several ducati engine builders they say its extremely common On the horizontal cylinder.. I am replacing the cylinders and piston rings right now on my 848. Best of luck, i hope this is not the case for you.

So far after 25,000 miles there are NO problems with the bike. It also DID NOT void the factory warranty. I would never even buy an exhaust if there is not a proven UpMap as already available. US vs Euro Zx4rr anyone? The issue was never about whether or not a bike could be improved on, but whether or not a bike could be improved for less money than buying a differnt bike. That does NOT translate to, the bike was perfect and you are not worthy.

@closedcasketcustoms

The amount of fuel in that oil had to be horrific with how that plug was looking and how bad that mileage was. In the future, you can look at the STFT and LTFT (fuel trims) and if you know what you're looking at, it'll give you a great idea of the issue at hand. Super high STFT, spray some carb cleaner around the intake and it'll drop indicating a vacuum leak. You can use the correlation between the trims to see misfires too. Regular OBD2 scan tools are a super powerful diag tool in the arsenal.

Drop the oil and put fresh in. If it's been running that rich and one one cylinder then it probably will have washed the bores. Fuel will have made it past the rings and will have diluted the oil. If the old oil comes out stinking of fuel then that is a dead give-away. Bore wash strips the cylinders of the protective oil coating. Plus the now thinned down oil can accelerate wear in the main bearings and cam bearings.

You have to take off the exhaust to change the oil on that thing? that's kind of nuts. I have a bash plate to take off. Getting to spark plugs another story. Either way the Trk is broken now.

Just a silly question on balance of the filling up sequence: Does America not have 95 Octane fuel? Where I am 93 octane is our low octane option and I confuse the living daylights out of filling station attendants by running my motorcycle on 93.

It's a different grading scale. My understanding is it's basically the same.

Step 1 is sitting down and having a STUPIDLY HONEST chat with yourself about your ACTUAL levels of repair capability in reference to the vehicle being considered. On a side note, what size tire is that Road 6 you have on the back? I wasn't aware that they made that tire in the stock Diavel size.
