the thing a lot of people forget when making new typings is that the only old pokemon that get the new type are normal types like clefairy and jigglypuff or single typed pokemon like marill and magnemite. no non-normal types are ever replaced. that's why celebi and jirachi didn't change to fairy.

Goodra gets its steel typing from the giant shell on its back that is like its snail shell. I know some may think it's a tail, but the animations in legends arceus show it hiding in there and so the steel typing comes from that hard surface and casing

You have no idea how hard I popped off when I saw the title for this video. While not necessarily the same thing, a couple friends and I have been working on a Food-type. We even wrote a type chart for it, as well as reasons for each decision. For weaknesses, we made it weak to Water because soggy food is gross and water is used to wash dirty dishes, Ground because dirty food is gross, Poison because of food poisoning, and Bug because if bugs infest your food you obviously won't eat it. We made it strong against Fire because cooked food over raw food is tastier and healthier, Steel because food can mess up machines very easily, Ghost because ghosts can't eat anything you silly goose, and Fighting because carbs slow fighters down. We also made Ice resist it because food doesn't really do much to ice though ice does freeze food (also Ice needs resistances BADLY), and we also made Food and Grass resist each other because... vegetation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To me, the most logical type to add, besides just none, is an Elastic/Rubber type. Give it to bouncy and flexible Pokemon like Drifloon, Jigglypuff, Bellibolt, Wailord, Lickilicky, Blacephelon, Azuril, etc, make it really good against types like electric and poison, which can't do much to rubber, but weak to more cutting and blunt-trauma-like types like steel and normal.

Rubber type would be funny, but then better not give it to Ditto (It already has that reputation). Jigglypuff and Azurill will be problematic either way, considering they already got the type change, so its hard to believe they are gonna give them again. Another funny type that can be added is the Artificial Type, so for man-made or item Pokemon that really don't make sense to be a certain type (For example Honedge line does make sense to be part Steel alongside its Ghost typing, as its an infected sword - but then there is a Pokemon like Magearna, who can easily lose its typing in favor of the AI type or Porygon getting the typing).

You know, when I first saw your title, I was thinking it was a joke, the « taste » type. Then it got me to another thought : Taste Sound Does that ring any bell ? These are two of the five senses ! So, I was like, ok why would Sound be more legit than Taste ? And I have a few suggestions -> Suggestion 1 : NEW MECHANICS - Instead of Sound-type, Taste-type, Smell-type, Sight-type, Touch-type they could add a new game mechanic that includes the five senses… giving certain advantages to those Pokémon which are « ultra-sensitive ». Choosing this mechanic would be a huge work on more than a thousand Pokémon to get an influence of something that would be like a « third » type - or a new stat - or new parameter like Pokémon’s weight… some Pokémon might be deaf for example so they could resist better against such opponents. Zubat is blind but he has extra sensitivity to sound ! Right ? This mechanic would be mad. Suggestion 2 : NEW SENSE TYPE « Sense » / « Sensory » / « Perception » / « Aura » / « Soul » type, a special type of Pokémon including all the Pokémon that should belong to « Sound-type, Taste-type, Smell-type, Sight-type, Touch-type ». Naming it « Soul » type might no be a bad idea to change some of the Ghost types to keep the idea of « something » that touches you but doesn’t really exist on physical plane it’s the perception behind that counts… Perception of hearing, of taste, sight, touch and smell… they’re all together in this. What do you think ? If they would name it « Aura type » it would perfectly fit with « Aura sphere » a fighting type move… that uses « TOUCH » sense ! Sound, Cosmic, and Tech(nology) types would be nice. Sound and Cosmic are pretty basic. A lot of people say those. But Tech type might need some expanding. It could encompass any man-made material. Glass, rubber/plastic, and, of course, what immediately comes to mind: robots and digital pokemon. It could be a very diverse type, though. Persona has a nuclear element, which was the inspiration for this. Tech type could be anything from Porygon, to a Monkey D. Luffy-like rubber pokemon, to a robot puppy, to "computer bug" malware pokemon, a glass ghost that busts into tiny shards to move around all wispy before reassembling itself, an anonymous keyboard warrior espionage-inspired pokemon (think Sombre from Overwatch), a cursed teddybear or any other number of Toy Story abominations, to a nuclear bomb based pokemon.

I am always a strong advocate against Sound and Cosmic (And Light). Sound we basically have already in the game via a sub typing (Which i feel works way better than when it actually is a main typing, since it being a subtype, means they can do more with the type than just make it generic muscial instruments or Pokemon that sing or dance). Many don't really realize Cosmic and Light are in the game already as main typings as well, albeit under a different name Cosmic literally wouldn't do anything different than Fairy and Psychic are already doing in terms of advantages and weaknesses and Rock is kinda covering the typing too in terms of Alien based Pokemon (Minior, Solrock, Lunatone as examples). Light performs the exact same way as Fairy as well, it being strong against Dark typing (Which Fairy already is anyways). I like the tech typing, but then again Rotom might be the Pokemon throwing the spanner in the works, unless you change the Electric typing to Tech typing, which really doesn't make sense for what Rotom is supposed to be based on (A motor, which generates Electricity), although it being only one Pokemon that might not get the type, despite it making sense isn't that bad (Writing this i also realize Genesect should lose its Steel typing then, which i feel can happen, but is not likely because its a mythical). Then thinking about movesets, the Tech type will be solely special based i think and we already have 2 types that are also that, because we don't have a lot of Physical moves in those typings, these being Fairy and Psychic + there is also so much you can do with a tech type, Pokemon design wise.

I have for a long time been of the opinion that it would have been better to prune and/or merge some types. 18 types (19 with Stellar Type) is just too many, and it's too hard to to keep track of all weaknesses & resistances. If you pruned/merged the types, you could make an easier to understand weakness/resistance chart.

I think 18 types is the most balanced Pokémon will ever be, but if we are to get a new type it would be better to simply replace a old type with that new type, with better type effectiveness. By proposal is the Beast-type. Most if not all Normal-types would be made Beast-type (as will a lot of those moves, with a few exceptions becoming the different types). The type effectives would be Beast is super effective on Ghost, Bug and ground. Weak to fire (they have fur), and ice, and Dragon (dragon NEEDS to have something it's good against other than just dragon). It's resistant to Water, Electric and Dark. It's not good against Dark (both types resist each other) Steel and Flying (how will they reach it?). All pure Normal-types are beast-type. All part Normal-types lose the type.

I want to see the following types : - Sound - Air - Light/Sun - Dynamic types like for example « mirror » type Why and who ? *** SOUND *** This type should give value to all Pokémon using Sound Exploud, Chatot, Noivern, Kriketune, Wigglytuff, Politoed coule be the first « old ones » to get the type. For double-typed like Noivern and Chatot -> replace Noivern Flying type and Chatot Normal type to replace by Sound. *** AIR *** This type : All flying insects and maybe some others using Air and not getting actual wings. This might get personnal but IMO birds and insects are not the same ! A bird flies like a plane whereas insects do it like an helicopter. Insects actually use the air and bend it, birds are driven by it. This would be game changing regarding weaknesses especially… insects can be strong against ground for example -> they do dig a lot ! Have you ever seen an insect getting struck by lightning ? While I do think that bird do fear it. Lots of insects are near water types and grow inside it - while also being eaten by fish. So they could be strong against it but also weak to Water at the same time. *** LIGHT/SUN *** Within this type : Bellossom, Ninetales, Heliolisk, Cherrim, Sunflora, Tropius, Torkoal could be some beneficial Pokémon. As well as Solrock - btw I don’t get why Lunatone didn’t get his actual Fairy type because Fairies do get power from the Moon and this ´mon is literally one. To get boosts from the sun, Pokémon must use Zénith moves and such, they are reinforced and grow to the sun but suddenly get weaker to fire types moves which is unfair… This is IMO a contradiction. Sun type isn’t that stupid, there is already an existing Moon type (Fairy), so why couldn’t there be a Sun type. This type could fix the Fire weakness of Pokémon actually using the Sun to get stronger and consider that they are neutral to Fire… Might also be an opportunity to fix a few « weather types » Pokémon like a Cherrim rework, and a Morpheo rework as well (could get evolution and new forms - why not a definitive evolution whose typing depend on the weather that was at stake when it happened. *** MIRROR *** Might seem like a niche at first, this type should initiate a new kind of typing… a reactive typing that doesn’t rely on talents. Basically this would be a non-offensive perma-instant Libero/Protean. This type would just instant copy the primary typing of the ennemy. And I am thinking of several eligible candidates : - Ditto, obvious effortless pick, then you will say to me « what becomes of Impostor » well Ditto’s typing doesn’t change the mechanics I guess because Ditto copies all from the opponent including stat changes and all so… - Castform could get an evolution and get this typing… his old talent will give him the ability to get a third stab from the typing of the ground or weather. - Kecleon, obvious one and modify his talent so that Kecleon adapts offensively or defensively depending on what he is facing and thus get stat boosts as well. Like « the opponent has high attack, Kecleon gets instant +3 def » « the opponent has low spe.def, Kecleon gets instant +3 spe.atk » - Wobuffet, this thing is a walking mirror thingy. - New Porygon form, technology reached the point where it can manipulate any form of life/element - New Eevee form that couldn’t choose between typings and got them all at once and then is able to instantly adapt in real time situations. - Unown « complete form - Arceus, as OP as this Pokémon already is… god can mimic any typing in the game. - Zoroark, although an illusion is different from a real « mirroring ». - Cryogonal, said to be the reincarnation of Pokémon dead in the ice, so, basically it could get other typings from his old lives. - Furfrou, could get his fur cut to the type he mimics. - Silvally, obvious reasons. - Meteno, loose flying type and get mirror. - Spinda, this one is tricky… but I think interesting the idea that this Pokémon could adapt his faltering pace to the type he is facing. Basically such a typing promises a lot of « revenge killing » but some would be stallers and others sweepers… if stats are reworked for the ones mentioned above that would be awesome.

im not sure why people back sound typing so hard. Why not punch type, fang type, or cut type? Sound is also mostly a normal type move set and feels like the counterpart to the slicing type moves. Just one is physical and one is special for the most part. I think if anything they need to remove types or alter them. Ice, rock, bug, and psychic should be remove. Fairy, flying(maybe fuse it with electric for a storm type or something), steel, grass, ghost, and dragon should be updated and changed.

I mean...for the taste type, trainers in the Pokemon World canonically eat Magikarp... so there's another fit. Problematic bit here however, is what are you gonna do with Mega Gyarados being Water/Dark. Cramorant literally eats Arrokuda Mareanie eats Corsola. Tropius is right there. Munchlax and Snorlax are tied to food as well, so it makes sense to make them Normal/Taste. tbh... this was a silly video and we all know it will never happen. At least this was an enjoyable watch compared to the we need Sound, Light and Cosmic typings (Especially since we never get those types either, considering they are already in the game albeit as a different name or as a sub-type).

I really dislike he sound type idea. I think fairy doesn't cover enough and sound would be a 3rd of what fairy became. It needs to have a good amount of existing mons from every gen that can use the next type. it also needs to assist the meta so there is more even effectiveness to the existing typings. giving reason back to psychic and diversity to rock over ground. giving viability to poison, bug, ice. Also decreasing defenses of steel, dragon, fairy, fighting, and possibly ground. Factoring these things in I think an ancient type over rock. Making it strong against steel, dragon, and fairy makes sense to me as ancient creatures are often bigger and stronger than modern ones and would be able to destroy their modern counterparts generally. Also ancient times killed off the dragons and wrote books about fairies so they knew how to deal with them. I think poison would be stronger as poison type things like gasses killed off ancient groups and led to mass extinction. Also the cockroach being almost untouched by time would make bug more effective on ancient too. Psychic can be strong against ancient as it can warp ones perception of time and can alter ones perception of reality. Also ice would be immune to ancient as ice is where ancient creatures are found as they were captured. OBVIOUSLY ancient power would be an ancient move but I think other things like roar of time, roar, and other crude attacks would become ancient type while also moving all rock types to ancient as rock wont exist anymore. I think this could be helpful. Even make the natural elemental attacks normal effective so there's more neutral viability to the starters moves.

If they made Sound a type then stuff like sparkling aria or torch song would have to be sound time, and then that would remove the whole gimmick of those being the starters type matching move. And then basically everything sound move related would have to be removed/reworked because you can’t have throat spray that’s just boosts your special attack when you use a sound move
