I bought a pound and a half of cube steak on sale and made chicken fried steak for dinner. This is somewhat of a budget-friendly dinner I grew up having. It's also a great meal for beginner cooks.
Welcome to the Simply Mamá Cooks KZbin Channel! I am a Mom to a blended Korean / Mexican American family who loves to share what I cook in my home. I am still learning and enjoy the process of making home-cooked food.

You’re cooking up my childhood…😍…..this is the meal that screams American to me. I’m elderly (80)…so I was giggling when you mentioned cubed steak being a cheaper meat…. When I was a young girl, the neighborhood butcher used to give away cube steak & liver to my mother…supposedly to feed the cats 🫣…and, you guessed it…the cats might have gotten a taste, but my frugal mother made a few great meals from those “throw away” cuts of meat. Ahhh… the good old days😋

I literally just had this same meal a few days ago. I seasoned the flour and dipped in buttermilk then flour. My husband deep fried them outside. I did homemade potatoes but use southeastern brand peppered gravy mix and French style green beans. I only eat French style...lol. Really great meal.

This is comfort food to me. I add a lot of pepper in the gravy, delicious. Cube steaks used to be dirt cheap, not so any more. One thing I have started doing is making a big batch of mashed potatoes and freeze them in zip lock bags, smashed flat. To reheat you're going to think you have a bag of soupy potatoes - no fear. Put them in a pan, low heat and stir. The moisture will be completely reabsorbed and you will have freshly made mashed potatoes. For me this is a huge time and $$ saver. If I have a bag of potatoes that are trying to sprout, just make mashed potatoes and pull them out for dinner when you need. You don't even have to defrost them completely before reheating. Now I want chicken fried steak! Thanks.

This is excellent, hearty home cooking - simple, unpretentious and absolutely delicious! I believe the true hallmark of a great cook, is the ability to whip up a yummy savoury sauce/gravy from store cupboard staples. Gravy elevates a meal from so-so, to spectacular. Bravo! Have you ever made potato rosti/hash browns??? One of my favourite potato sides, but there are many different methods.

We cook our beef cube steak in Worcestershire and soy sauce or a little Worcestershire, sautéed onions strips and butter. Pork cube steak is always light coat of seasoned flour and fried, like chicken fried steak and put on a bun with buttery garlic aioli or a buffalo aioli. Great video

I’ve made cubed steaks and like you I prefer meat med.well to well done, and it gets so tough if it’s over cooked😢but I haven’t made it with the egg and flour I’m gluten free so I’m sure I can use cornstarch or g.free flour.tip for mash potatoes I steam them or boil them in reduced sodium chicken broth-I heat the butter and milk together and keep the pot on the stove on low while mashing them.I am definitely making this, thank you and Happy New Year🎆🥂🎆
