First Story. NTA: OP should continue with the adoption and take care of her niece. Were I her, I'd also go NC with the brother and consider NC with the parents and other siblings. This includes preventing them access to the children. They don't get to pick and choose which children are worthy of their support, especially after the niece is adopted and is OP's child. The threats and disapproval should also be documented and, if possible, recorded. This should be useful later on should the family try to force access to any of the children.

If there is anyone on my floor whom I'm related to, I have to disclose that to my charge nurse so we can try to keep me away from them. And if I were to look up their medical files? Story 2 - OP is NTA. As someone studying to go into a medical field, I am well aware of how serious HIPPA violations are. It's one of those things that is essentially beat into the heads of every aspiring medical professional, regardless of what level they operate at. You are not allowed to access anyone's medical files unless you are attending to them or they give you permission to do so. Even immediately family members aren't allowed to view these unless given permission. As a nurse she should know better than to use her access that way. She willingly ignored regulations and snooped around for no discernable reason other than to satisfy her curiosity, so I say she deserves what she got from the board. She has no real reason to be mad at the OP when she was the one digging into people's lives where she wasn't wanted. If she did this so casually and without remorse to her, how many other files did she snoop in?

@itrasheditgood3 жыл бұрын
I agree somehow, the fact that she was calling her friend a Debby Downer says just how sympathetic she was to the situation in the first place, her notice to the boyfriend must have included her frustration which in turn gave bf permission for the personal attack. She must have had some idea of how he would react, she had that personal conversation before hand and if he felt that strongly about abortion he would have mentioned it to some extent. She had in fact created the perfect storm, when it got out of control she just acted innocent, what a terrible friend. I hope her ex bf cuts her off completely.

Story 4 / Abortion story - the thing that gets me is "They have this really weird arrangement set up consent stuff and what they would do if they got pregnant etc" You mean this young couple has taken responsibility for having sex, discussed in advance what is ok for them and what their expected are if an unplanned pregnancy happened. Her friend did murder someone, though. That's what an abortion is. "You're entitled to your opinion" but not when it means actually acting in ways consistent with that opinion? The expectation that pro-life people should just keep out of it when someone they know has an abortion is not at all respecting their opinion, it's saying that they need to pretend they don't see the baby as alive.

In what context in violating HIPAA okay? How could you even think like that?
@lanellsoto17323 жыл бұрын
first one. A child needs a home and a family. This uh father wants no part of this child, but those that have stepped up to adopt this child do, and the biological father won't sign off because it's all about him? WHAT?????

Story 1: Why the hell is Mark so hostile toward poor Mia?? I mean, it's not just that he doesn't want the responsibility for her - he's angry at the idea of having her in the family at all! He'd rather see her flung into the foster system. It's like he genuinely hates the poor kid! And what is this double-think where "I don't want anything to do with her, and AS HER FATHER, I should have the final say!"?? WTF?

Wait I dont get the 1st story... They are not asking him to have any custody nor be an uncle... They just want custody of Mia... I dont get what the problem is...

Biodad is an asshole & does not want his sister, the child's bio-aunt to adopt her bc he wants to go "no contact" with a child he apparently hates. Sounds like he wants the child to suffer out of hatred for the deceased mother.

Jerk thinks the world revolves around him. Since op is his family he'll end up seeing mia with op and co during family gatherings and clearly doeant want jack to do with his own daughter. Thats why hed rather have Mia's maternal family or even strangers take her so he can forget she exists and when hes "ready" to be a dad and have kids down the line his s/o then wont know how sh!t of a father he actually is.

@@bibliowolf5735 But he could do so even if the sister adopts it unless he has some kind of relationship with the sister meaning hed be seeing the child?

Story 3: YTA. Your son needs to get his shit together before getting married. Since he can't afford to get married then he and his fiancee can just wait until they can afford to pay for their wedding. Asking your husband to use his daughters college money to fund your son's wedding is ludicrous and I totally understand why he is pissed off at you for asking.

Story 4. OP’s the asshole in so many way. 1 Telling her friend’s business. 2. Not stopping him from attacking her 3. Not sticking up for her friend 4. Putting his opinion over her friend’s feelings. For sure the ah. Her bf too.

OP’s Mark (not our resident cinnamon roll Mark, of course.) is most definitely TA. Such a negative attitude towards his own child. OP taking his little one is the farthest thing from, OP/grandparents and their family are good people who are trying their best to love and care for the child that HE chose to abandon.

Story 2: NTA My mom works as a nurse and my dad used to work in a hospital for nutrition services and they always told me HIPAA laws are taken very seriously and when someone is found of violation of HIPAA, they do not get off lightly. So OP is in the right, especially when it's a literal law that those in the medical field needs to follow.
@canadalovesanime31373 жыл бұрын
Story 4: YTA Keep your BIG mouth shut. OP did NOT have the right to "share" information with her boyfriend. The friend is NOT a hypocrite. The friend revealed something in confidence, not something to be "shared". The boyfriend needs to be dumped. He IS entitled to his opinion, but not to harass and insult other for theirs. The friend made the mature decision, DO NOT bring unwanted children into this world. If someone wants a child so bad, then adopt one of the MANY that are currently in foster care. But those people who whine about "m**dering" unborn, don't really care about the children. They just believe they are "morally Superior" to everyone else. Hundreds of thousands of kids are in care right now, but nobody wants to adopt "damaged goods", they all want cute little baby dolls to dress up and show off. People like that are sick!

Story 2- NTA. I’m in Canada so it might be a little different, but my boyfriend was hospitalized in the spring and nurses were only able to share information with me and his mom. They could share info with me because he gave them consent to and with his mom because that was his emergency contact.

SIL knew the LAW and willingly violated it. By doing so, she gave Private Legally Protected information to others (I guarantee she told Brother, her family, etc) and actually exposed the Hospital to a potential Lawsuit for violating the Law. SHE broke the LAW with full knowledge of that LAW and potential consequences. Who else's private files have been accessed by her and who else's private protected information has she shared. She did this without a second thought, indicating that this is NOT the 1st time. It leaves the question of who else has asked her about another person and had her illegally give them that information. And the fact that family thinks it is okay to break a major law and give info out is okay?!? WTF!

First dude doesn't want to be a parent and step up for his kid, but does want to claim parent rights to decide what happens to his kid? Can't have it both ways, bro. You're either her dad or you're not. also bold assumption from him that anyone would even want to stay in contact with him enough for him to have to play uncle, I thought NC was the obvious next step.
@princesslulu57953 жыл бұрын
The wedding one definitely YTA. Son & his fiancée are grown adults. They need to learn to live within their means and budget for a wedding they can afford. If the specific date is that important, elope at the courthouse and take your friends & family to a nice restaurant. This would be so much cheaper. Education is way more important than a party. Also regardless of the reason its not her money she has no right to ask. If stepdaughter offered money on her own without being asked, that would be a different story, but op is so wrong
@15oClock3 жыл бұрын
1. Bastard!Mark should've just given OP Mia if he didn't want it effecting his life, but he's being difficult. His mental gymnastics are Olympic level. 2. Not only is a HIPAA violation a firing offense, it probably means you can't practice medicine. It's because they can't trust you, and that's on you, not the people you hurt. 3. Destroying one child's future to enable an expensive wedding that doesn’t sound like it will end well. There's so much to unpack here. 4. Felicity and Michael deserve their privacy, especially on such a sensitive issue. Too bad OP was her friend at the time! Never making that mistake again!
