I’ve always interpreted the Martha scene as less of the name actually meaning anything and more that Batman realizes that he’s about to murder someone who wants nothing more than for his mom to be safe. The spear he’s holding has become the gun that killed his parents, and he realizes that he’s no better than the man who killed his parents. It’s super rushed and needed to be fleshed out more but I’ve always liked the attempt.

its about how bruce turned him into a monster not capable of the same emotions he would have towards his own mother each character has problems with parents while bruce and clark deal with loss lex deals with abuse and outright neglect "write checks for lex" his father used him to leverage power... just as lex grows up and uses everyone...Bruces dad died fighting the criminal who killed him... so Bruce fights criminals... Yeah the name is more of a self realization trigger. "OMG I'm Joe chill!" And the role reversal from his view of his calling forced him to rapidly reverse his mental de-humanization of Superman. You can see it on his face. He only rationalized this murder because killing a monster that might destroy the world isn't murder. Now it's all recalibrated. He offers to help save Martha, not because they're best friends now, lol, but because via the thematic role reversal his ENTIRE CAREER has been symbolically trying to save Martha, and now he CAN. He's saving himself from his dark errors by saving Martha. Batman is redeeming himself.

So my understanding of Bruce in this movie was he became cruel after Joker killed Robin. I also may be misremembering, but i thought Snyder said Dick Grayson was the Robin killed. As for Batman going completely nuts over Superman without proper research, he saw the absolute devastation that Zod and Superman's fight delivered to Metropolis. From Bruce's perspective on the ground, he just saw 2 alien beings leveling a city with no regard for innocent lives. Bruce just saw them fight and then saw the aftermath and that pushed him beyond even his limits of reason.
@AshrafAnam
@AshrafAnam 10 ай бұрын
He did his research. Did you miss when he tells Alfred "20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?" and "If there's a 1% chance he is our enemy, we have to take it as an absolute certainty"? He knows what Supes been doing. He just didn't have faith in him for valid reasons. And the strange dream also adds to his fears. "If he wanted he could burn the whole place down" Flash also telling him "You've always been right about him"

To answer your question about Lex, he’s actually based on the version introduced in the comic Superman: Birthright where Lex is younger, has long orange hair and is a lot more twitchy. This batman is one of the most darkest. Full of hate, anger and uncofidence. Veteran almost 20 years so it's logical that to see the presence and destruction that Superman makes indirectly to save the world (he don't see that) thinks that it's an enemy. To see him like a human, who loves and has a family, a mother, turned to be the real batman that has to be through the beginning of his life has a hero. Superman's death makes Batman returns again.

I just don't get why when Batman says "I'm a fried of your son's", they take it to mean he was being literal. I always took it as playful banter. As for the Martha scene. ALL Batman movies prior focused on Bruce's relationship with his father, especially Batman Forever and Batman Begins. This movie from the onset focused on Bruce's relationship with his mother - Martha. So when the Martha scene happened, it was not weird to me. I was like OMG Superman's mother's name is Martha as well. Batman's sudden change of heart I took to mean that he was going to kill someone who had a mother, a mother who's name is Martha, just like his, just like his mother was taken from him. At that moment he realized he was becoming the person he swore to stop

Exactly. English isn't my first language and I seem smarter than these Anglophone Americans. Yeah "friend" means an ally, someone supportive of the same cause, of favorable disposition. That's where the adjective "friendly" comes from. Also people ignore this line "Martha won't die tonight"....he wasn't referring specifically to Martha Kent but the Martha symbolizing both her and his mother. When Superman tells him "You're letting him kill Martha" he feels he let Martha die that night even though he was just a defenseless boy. That very "guilt" was what drove him to become Batman...to seek vengeance upon criminals. He starts screaming because his weakness his trauma his PTSD was unintentionally being attacked by Superman's words.

I always felt that if you're a scary guy dressed as a bat and you just rescued a woman from an emotionally trying life threatening situation, then you probably realize you have to do something to alleviate stress. So, you know this woman has a son who does this sort of hero thing all the time. Snap choice is to simplify everything by saying "I'm a friend of your son." It kind of perfectly explains why you are there, and maybe even sounds tongue and cheek enough to distract Martha from the fact that she almost just died.

The Ultimate cut adds so much over the theatrical cut. I remember a lot of people not even understanding the theatrical cut as much of Lex's plans and set- ups were left out (or rather off screen). It also made Superman appear as much more of a villain, while Batman was the good guy. In the Ultimate cut it's more or less the reverse.

Hot take: I really love this Lex Luthor portrayal. I get it's not comic accurate (at least, not to main continuity Lex) but it's so well done for what it's trying to do. This version of Lex is stunted. His trauma has completely overtaken him to the point where he's bitter, angry, and alone. He views the world as owing him because no one did anything to protect him from the abuse he experienced in his childhood. He subsequently morphs that into a hatred of anyone or anything that has power over him. Which I feel embodies Lex Luthor to a tee.

Superman always dies fighting Doomsday, he's known as "the monster who killed Superman". Back in the day when a comic called "The death of Superman" was published, DC comics went dark on Superman making many believe that they weren't going to make any more Superman comics, and that sparked a nationwide outcry from comic book fans "bring Superman back", it was basically a whole "you don't know what you have until it's gone" thing.

@@Wolfhunter5607 When he said that, "The real Doomsday is out there somewhere." I felt it wasn't needed. The Doomsday we are accustomed to with the bones protruding from his body, is a "seasoned" Doomsday. Doomsday wasn't born looking like that, that's his evolutionary look from "dying" and being "reborn" so many times. While getting more powerful each time. So, the "Doomsday" in this movie could very well be the real Doomsday. It just hasn't "powered" up by dying and coming back to life a bunch of times. They could have easily brought back Doomsday in a future movie. For example, they could have had an end credit scene in BvS where they decided to dispose the body by shooting it out into space because they learn the body can't decay and they didn't want it staying on Earth. the final scene would be a shot of a capsule with the supposed dead body, but we hear the heart start beating again. Let's pretend DCEU was successful, they could have brought back Doomsday in a future movie, looking like the Doomsday we know. The explanation would be, he has been fighting and powering up this entire time traveling through the Universe, and he somehow found his way back to Earth to get revenge on Superman.

The fact that him getting another chance to save Martha, whom he immediately conflates with his own mother, immediately makes him view Superman as an ally through Martha, makes total sense. Neither of them are like that though. Mark Zuckerberg is incredibly calm and collected at all times, which is why he's a robot or an alien. Elon Musk is a bit twitchy and odd, but only because he's neurodivergent and struggles to talk publicly when he doesn't have a script. This version of Lex is just completely loony. I think actual comic Lex, who is friendly, outgoing, publicly loveable, and incredibly sinister and coldly intelligent on the inside, is a much better representation of the modern aristocrat, politician, CEO, etc

About the xenophobia that you picked up on, it was a very heavy inspiration for this movie. The writers wanted to base this on the post 9/11 state of America. Batman’s trauma and PTSD from the metropolis destruction led him into a state of paranoia. It’s why Batman even more than lex is the villain of this movie. He’s killing people, acting reckless, and the writers saw the xenophobia that sprouted as a result of 9/11 and projected that onto Batman. It’s what Alfred was talking about with “the fever, the rage the feeling of powerlessness; It turns good men cruel.” Batman was so shaken that he turned into someone who was no better than Joe Chill. He’s dehumanizing Superman, doing this weird hyper violent branding and doesn’t care about who dies in his warpath even though believing in the humanity of others and believing in redemption is a core aspect of who Batman is. It’s only when he realizes that he’s about to condemn superman’s mom to death in the same way that his mom died that he realizes that he’s become a monster.

I had one of the best movie experiences of my life the second time I watched this. I watched it once, though it was ok, liked the same things and had the same issues with it as you. About a year later it was on tv one afternoon and I put it on with my wife there. I figured she would have the same reaction as me, I hadn't pushed her to see it before then which I would've if I thought it was a great movie. The thing about my wife and movies is that she doesn't do spoilers. None. Doesn't watch trailers or ads or read anything. She wants to go into a movie knowing nothing. So we're watching most of it and she's thinking it's ok, just like me. We get to the scene where Bruce sees the picture of Diana in WW1 and my wife turns to me with an astonished face and says "Is that Wonder Woman?". And tears start streaming down her face. After years of watching and enjoying all the MCU and DC movies her favorite female hero from her childhood was finally on the screen and she cried. A lot. It was a powerful moment and I'm tearing up just writing about it now. Representation in films matters.

There is no need to make it about representation, all it was, is that your mother was happy to see a character that she loved since childhood, you made it into a contrite compartmentalization.

@@jlhanlon1980 wow, you just throw your ignorance out on display without giving one second of thought to how other people see things. The representation took place when my wife was a child in the 1970s and the only mainstream female superhero was Wonder Woman. WW had the live action tv show, appearances on the Superfriends cartoon and her comic. She was pretty much the only mainstream female superhero representation at that time and that is why most women of that age grew a strong bond with her. Then, for almost 40 years there was no mainstream manifestation of her, certainly no movie appearances, maybe a few cartoons that most people didn’t watch, while Batman, Superman & Spider-Man piled up multiple tv series and movie franchises. Every other modern appearance of WW you named happened after BvsS, so that movie was the first time in 40 years that the women who saw themselves represented by WW when they were children got to see her again, and the first time they ever saw her in a movie. I’m sure a lot of them felt the exact same way my wife did. I understand you just get triggered by certain words and you automatically feel like you have to attack the people who use them because the concept of representation in film doesn’t matter to you, but you need to understand that it does matter to other people and at least try to be respectful of that.

Also after you watch The Batman series you should get into the Fox Gotham TV series it has the best interpretation of Batman villains in it I've ever seen. It also makes a good viewing prequel series to DC's Titans and the Doom Patrol series.

What are you talking about, drawn out too long. They don’t know he’s alive. They don’t know Superman is hard to kill, they don’t know that he needs sunlight to heal. They freakin buried his ass. And Batman’s story is a redemption story. A hero that has become a bit too careless and has experienced so much loss. Now he fears that there’s a new level of evil that he may not be able to fight and it’s important to him that he finds a way to normalize this. Show this alien that men are not weak that we have the ability to control him if need be. Superman’s sacrifice shows Bruce what it truly means to be a hero again. He’s a different man in Justice league. Even his theme is different. I love this movie.

Lex being all unhinged and wild is pretty on brand for the character. Although i do think there was a LOT of Riddler influence here, it wasn't that far off for how some versions of him are. Also on Batman, virtually every scene talking to or about him is attempting to showcase how in the wrong he is about the whole situation and how jaded his past made him. If you felt uncomfortable or uneasy during his fight scenes, seeing him potentially kill or just not care how brutal he was, then the scenes did their job, showing that he hasnt been himself in years.

The thing with Lex in this movie is that his whole life he was always in someone's shadow. Early in the movie it's established that he had daddy issues and always seeked his father's approval. Most likely Lex killed his own father to take over the company. Now that he is an adult and he has all this power, being a billionair and having an high intellect, he sees himself as a god. But suddenly all of it means nothing anymore by this alien who is literally powerful like a god. He resents Superman for getting more attention for it than Lex with all of his assets. Knowing Bruce Wayne is Batman and Lex seeing him as a rival as well (billionare and also very high intellect), he sets up this elaborate plan to pit Superman and Batman against each other in the hopes they kill each other, so Lex can become an unrivaled "god". I do agree that it's not everybody's cup of tea how Lex is portrayed in the movie, but as a villian I think he was brilliant in the movie. Especially the part where Lex showed the photos of Sup's mother and was able to get Superman on his knees in front of him, basically saying "See? Me, a human, made a god kneel. I'm the one who people should praise, not this alien". This meant everything to Lex.

The animated series had a much better take on Batman and Superman's first encounter in the multi-part episode World's Finest. That's more of what I wanted this movie to be. Also, further down the road is Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, based on the comic arc of the same name. That's a very fun team-up against Luthor. And Meg, you know Doomsday from Superman: Doomsday, based on The Death (and Return) of Superman. This is about as close as they got to adapting the story in live-action. Though I think it was premature to include it here. PS: That reaction to Luthor was PERFECT.

Hearing someone say "I wonder if that's a villian from the comics" when shown Doomsday is so funny. Not in a mean way or anything, it's just the dramatic irony of the moment made me chuckle. I think the problem with this movie is it tried to be too many things. It mashed like 3 different comic book stories/universes together. It had the Injustice story where Superman becomes a tyrant, it had the Death and Return of Superman, and it had The Dark Knight Returns so they could shoehorn a Superman v Batman fight for some reason. Then they had to mix all those plotlines together and try to make them all make sense even though they all take place in totally different stories with different motivations and timelines etc etc etc. Idk, they needed to just stick to 1 iconic story, and tell that, instead of biting off more than they could chew.
@jenniferhamels1176
@jenniferhamels1176 10 ай бұрын
The Injustice arc could fit in any timeline though. All you need is for Lois to die, and Superman loses himself. In any timeline the potential of that happening is a possible outcome. So, Bruce seeing a possible future through a nightmare vision of Injustice Superman didn't feel out of place to me. But it could have been executed better though. As for the Death of Superman, that was a terrible choice to shoehorn into this film. As it is too soon and not earned in my opinion.

@@jenniferhamels1176Justice League is why they went the “Death of Superman” route. Justice League was basically a continuation of Batman redeeming himself for almost killing Superman in BvS, and the DCEU’s Justice League was inspired by Superman and his sacrifice. Im about 70% hate 30% love when it comes to this movie personally I’ll just put that out there first. Plenty has already been said about this movie when it comes to the script, the writing, and general direction of it so I went get into any of that too much so this doesn’t become a whole essay that no one will read. I think my biggest problem with this movie is it tries to do too many things at once in a time where the MCU was growing and thriving. Say what you will about the way Snyder wrote these characters, but personally, I might’ve been able to get behind an old disgruntled Batman who kills if I had gotten to know him through four other movies, rather than introducing him in one alongside wonder woman, and Lex Luthor, and doomsday, and also killing Superman after only one movie with him. I’m not gonna pretend to know if that was a studio decision or a Snyder decision but either way it was the wrong decision. I love Henry Cavill, and I love Ben Affleck, and I think they did their absolute best with what they were given but even with the ultimate edition, this movie just doesn’t make any sense to me personally lol it really felt like DC were onto something with man of steel despite the criticism But then kind of threw it all away with this movie and just never recovered after the fact. When it comes to the way, the characters are written, I’m ok with making a dark universe, DC comics are generally darker than Marvel anyway, but being someone who grew up with the animated movies, I just think the DCAU did a dark universe with lovable characters better than Snyder did.

I was onboard when Jesse Eisenberg was cast Lex Luthor. I thought it was genius casting because of course the modern day Lex Luthor would be a Mark Zuckerberg. Big Tech Oligarchs. Lex was originally a just a mad scientist and that is played up here with it's allusions to Frankenstein using hidden(forbidden) knowledge to forth an abomination to creation: Doomsday; the dragon that Superman must slay. His demonic envy of Superman, the ethereal made tangible and the need for revenge. "No man in the sky intervene to save me from Daddy's fist and abominations!" Yes I will defend Jesse Eisenberg's performance of Lex Luthor. Zack said Batman is one of the two villains of the film, the other is Lex Luthor. Three if you count Doomsday. Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2. Superman is the central hero of these films Batman/Bruce Wayne is Man in his fallen state. The Death of Thomas and Martha Wayne can be interpreted as the Fall of Man. Bruce wants revenge for his suffering and by the end he seeks salvation and redemption. The Kryptonite Spear, in the hands of Batman, is the Spear of Destiny. When the Kryptonite Spear is the hands of Superman it is Excalibur. Superman is the only one that can wield it justly. A poster for Sir John Boorman's Excalibur(1981) is seen next to the poster for the The Mark of Zorro(1940) and is the name on the Marque. Boorman's Excalibur is one of Snyder's favorite films and has a great influence on his work including the most recent Rebel Moon Part One. It is his urtext. I could go on about this even more but I'll save that for some other time. I love Snyder's mythic take on Superman and the DC mythos. The next film is Zack Snyder's Justice League(2021) and it a epic 4 hours long. Hope you enjoy it.

Spoilers Free: I never really liked the structure of the DCEU. We should've gotten a Man of Steel 2 and a sole Batman film before Batman V Superman. Death in the Family would've made for a great movie showing the death of Dick Grayson and how Batman/Bruce handled the death giving off a very ragefully take on the character. This would be set years before Man of Steel when Batman was slightly younger but still the oldest we've seen him in film, around 35. Then we jump into Man of Steel 2 which would showcase Clark as the Superman we know and love and then we dive into a Batman vs Superman movie and Justice League. This Batman is heavily inspired by Frank Millers The Dark Knight Returns from the shot of Bruce holding the machine gun to the death of Jason Todd (Dick Grayson who died in the DCEU) being a main plot of his rage and of course that amazing Battle suit that is pulled right out of the comic. His normal Batman as well it's very much inspired by The Dark Knight Returns and for me is just the best live action Bat suit we've seen so far love the textures and grey on Black. Of course not a one to one recreation of the comic but these few elements were pulled from this certain comic. Much prefer the Dark Knight Returns Animated film but I actually enjoyed Batman V Superman at least the longer cut of the film. Still didn't like Batman killing, Batman reaction to guns "“This is the weapon of the enemy, We do not need it. We will not use it.” also from The Dark Knight Returns. Batman did use a rifle like you saw in the animated film but it was used as like a grapple line did not fire any bullets. For Superman they pulled from The Death of Superman which is interesting, would've preferred more build up to this event instead, doesn't feel earned at all. Cool to see Doomsday in live action, even though this isnt the "actual" Doomsday according to Zack. But yeah this film would've been Civil War levels of amazing if they're was more build-up so we'd actually care about these characters. I do think Ben Affleck is a good Batman visually and in action but this movie did not do the character justice at all when we jump right into a version of Batman where he kills people instead of showcasing his fall into where he's at now. Love Zack Snyder's Justice League though and would recommend watching that in parts as it's very long. Overall it's a film that's grown on me but there's just much better depictions of Batman & Superman along with Gotham & Metropolis as well which basically look the same in this film, no contrast at all, hopefully James Gunn fixes this for his universe.

This movie is possibly the most mixed bag in history of comic book movies. While some of the decisions made are amazing, others are so bafflingly weird that it doesn't even feel like the same movie. The prime example is Lex Luthor. Obviously, Zack Snyder wanted to take this character in a different direction, making him more of a Silicon Valley wunderkind, but that is 100% NOT what Lex should be.

Lex has been several things in the comics. In Golden Age he was a mad scientist, in Silver Age he was Superboy's childhood best friend. In Bronze Age, he was back to being a super smart, super villain like in the Superfriends cartoon and Superman: The Movie. In Post-Crisis he was a ruthless, genius businessman on the outside and a criminal mastermind on the down low. Lex changes with the times, so the Silicon Valley wunderkind fits perfectly.

I love that Bruce is so angry not only cause of Man Of Steel, but this cleary takes place not long after Robin’s murder in “Death In The Family” I even kinda like Lex. Yes he’s technically the worst live-action Luthor we’ve gotten so far, but Jessie plays it well and he’s legitimately frightening at times. He’s much more of a psychopath like he was back in the 40s comics. He hates god cause he wants to be one himself. I just REALLY wish we could’ve gotten more of Mercy Graves, cause they got a great actress playing her

Delivery Driver: "That will be forty dollars, including sales tax and delivery charge, but not the gratuity." Bruce Wayne: "Did you bring the extra can of 'Whoop-Ass'?" Delivery Driver: "Yes, Sir! Here you go!" Bruce Wayne: "Thanks! Here's a Twenty! Don't spend it all in one place!" Delivery Driver: You're welcome! Thanks! Bye!" Dormitory Supervisor: "Are you going to share those with everyone in the lounge?" Bruce Wayne: "Uh, I didn't expect to do so. I thought that I would beat them all up by myself." As rushed and confusing it was, I understood Batman and Lex’s motivations. For Batman, he saw Superman as nothing more than an alien, who with the powers of a God, could destroy the world if he wanted to. Let’s be honest-the world had just witnessed Zod and the Sword of Rao attempt that very thing with the World Engines two years prior. And it didn’t help that Superman’s negligence in his battles with Faora and Nam-Ek in Smallville, as well as his final battle with Zod in Metropolis left devastating damage to those areas. Alfred said it best about helplessness turning good men cruel. Batman, despite his fighting ability, intelligence and resources, was reminded he was nothing more than a man dressed as a bat fighting criminals and over-the-top, but human supervillains. Superman literally changed the game. That’s why the Martha scene, while flawed, was important: by finally learning Superman was someone who had parents, who grew up on Earth despite his origins, Bruce was able to A. see Superman as a person who really was trying to do the right thing and B how far he’d fallen to the point he became the very thing he fought for 20 years. As for Lex, it was a simple case of he genuinely didn’t believe anyone could be that good for the sake of being good. It didn’t help him get a good portion of humanity saw Superman as some Messianic figure, hence the quote about if he’s all-good, than he cannot be all-powerful. That’s why he wanted the world “to see the fraud” he believed Superman was. Also, it didn’t help that his father, who, despite being extremely abusive, was also a religious man-a key factor in Lex being obsessed with religion and how he developed the worldview he possesses. Side note considering Eisenberg’s portrayal, while I wasn’t a fan of it, I also thought of BvS kinda being the origin story for Lex. What reinforced it for me was both the ending where they cut off his hair in prison and his more stable and calm demeanor in the end credits of Justice League. I really believe had the movies continued, we would’ve eventually saw the Lex we all knew kinda like we would’ve saw Clark become the Superman we expected. In a way, Snyder attempted to do what Smallville did before him, just didn’t execute it properly.

48:47 Mark. Combat, battle, warfare, melee, it speeds up the adapting process. Like in a WW2 movie that I recently saw. Some "Vichy French" and some Italians, were just ready to switch sides and join the Allies, if only the damn Nazis or their supporters would just die or get of the way! 😮😂 WAIT! You play an "Elder Scrolls" game! Your character has experienced the sudden change because of accidentally hitting those on your side! 😁

Once they made Affleck Batman (and I consider him one of, if not the, best ones) the whole thing became an Elseworlds storyline for me. Making Batman so much older than Superman (in most iterations, they are around the same age). This is a Bruce/Batman that is broken, beyond jaded and has lost his way. Joker has killed Robin with the crowbar already, most of his allies are dead/gone and worse, Gotham is still infested with crime despite all that time and loss.

Honestly, I saw the Martha scene as Superman trying one last ditch effort to reach Bruce. Since, Clark learns that Batman is Bruce Wayne. Kent probably did some reach on Bruce and learned that his parents were killed right in front of him, when he was a child. So that why, I believe, Superman said Martha as a last attempt to reach Batman humanity.

53:15 Mark! "Lois first"! Yes! In the early years in the comics, she had more difficulty trying to prove that Clark Kent and Superman were the same! She would toss herself out of or off of buildings to test his response time! Those shenanigans ended by the time they married. But anyway, there used to be a publication titled "Comic Buyer's Guide" or something like that. It was a newspaper. One issue featured a comic panel on which Superman is introducing Lois Lane to the "JLA" or she's getting a tour of the HQ. Over her left breast is a button-badge with the big word "PRESS" emblazoned on it! To the side, if I recall correctly, Hal Jordan is saying to Barry Allen, "Go ahead! I dare you!" As far as I know, they haven't shown us how Superman would react to a situation like that! 😮 But in an episode of the 1960s animated cartoon series, an episode I dislike, instead of taking Lois Lane away from the circus 🐘 that she somehow annoyed, he arrives and tosses the poor animal out of the scene, never to be seen or heard again! I forget how their conversation went. 😮

49:45 Mark! Yes, it is! Duting the 1990s, I guess some fairweather fans of Superman were tired of being teased by Wolverine or Punisher fans, and in response to some desperate pleas, the woman in charge at the time, agreed to the concept of "The Death of Superman" though without telling most people that he would eventually return. They reboot their universe at least once a decade now, instead of using a "floating timeline" as "Marvel" used to do. When he was brought back, the people who were happy he was dead began complaining again, while normal people were happy that he was back! Albeit different somehow. 😃

Yeah Jesse is probably the worst Lex Luthor in live action. The way he acts is how Lex Luthor acted like as a High School Teenager. So as grown ass man it was kinda cringe to see him act like he the Joker.

26:15 Mark! Okay! Too many people have completed about how much damage, collateral or not, that he did with his "Batmobile" to understand or notice that it was to show us how tough it is before reacts like a regular car upon impact with Superman that doesn't flinch! I don't know if I still have it, but I at least once had the issue of "Supergirl" that depicts the front bumper of a car colliding with her lovely, sexy knees, and thus becoming a total wreck! Meanwhile in "The Munsters" vehicles colliding with "Herman Munster" would be just as wrecked! 😂

I wasn't in to this movie when I saw it in theaters, but I came to love how earnest and comic booky Zack Snyder's style is. I also felt weirded out by Jessie Eisenberg's portrayal of Luthor at first, but as a stand in for modern day tech billionaires like Musk I think a personality like that totally makes sense. I think in this day and age the idea of a dignified and ruthless billionaire might not exist anymore when they constantly show themselves to be crazy narcissists. .

1:00:28 I think that considering he’s been Batman for 20 years and his Robin died, this was kind of a situation where Batman had his own redemption arc to get back to his true self. I feel like his lines and Alfred’s responses were a way to tell us that Batman isn’t supposed to do any of what he is doing, and he used to be a hero. It made me think it was more of a Batman movie more than anything. And yes, it’s a Dick Grayson Robin suit in this universe. Joker kills him and apparently Batman pummels Joker to the point that he needs new teeth, so in Suicide Squad, the Joker has like gold teeth or whatever because of it (not officially canon, just something Snyder said was background info).

5:35 Mark! "Jack" was the guy in the skyscraper that Bruce was talking to! The riderless horse evokes what happened during 9/11 when people encountered police horses without their riders. It is because of 9/11 that the disaster debris effects look like this in both movies. Otherwise, they might still look like they did in Disaster Genre movies made before 9/11. 🤔

I didn’t like Eisenberg as Luthor at first, but watching him a second time I understood his Villainous arc on how he hates God because he didn’t save him from his father. So he tries to corrupt Superman a god-like being. Superman never took the bait which is awesome. Ended up working with Batman and sacrificing himself for the people. Such a beautiful film.
