Awww her and her husband are cute together. Good for her that she’s trying to get help. It’s really hard to ask a professional to help you STOP something that feels so satisfying and safe. I grew up poor and homeless on and off all through my childhood. When I go shopping, I feel so happy and secure. It’s like I step into an alternate universe where I can afford anything I want and I never have to worry. And the makeup and handbags I buy are like enchanted tokens from my little fantasy world lmao. Most of these comments are very ignorant and bitter. There is no reason to believe she’s stupid, 80% of the people in my country are in debt. It happens to the best of us. I had a marriage like this and was the most unhappiest, loneliest person on planet earth. I couldn't understand what was wrong. Years later, I read the book, The Five Love Languages and it hit me like a brick. My then husband was not understanding my love languages, just as Mark isn't understanding Adelines, and my life was running or crashing is more like it, running on an empty, unfulfilled love tank of any appreciation and understanding. It is like living life with a knife in your heart and actually hurts. If I had had this book all those years ago, we could have understood one another, and probably still been together to this day. My love language was needing touch and a real heart felt hug, but my then husband would change the oil in the car and think it was showing me love. Each partner must speak the other persons love language to each other, even if at first it feels foreign. Now when I buy wedding presents for people I buy them a copy of the book. I wish you two well.

That was sad tbh - I mean, I feel her i really do, it's like having problematic relationship with your parents really does set a tone for how you might behave as an adult, in a relationship especially. It's so difficult to be expected to live up to someone else's standards (in this case earnings) - I believe most of us are very self critical to begin with. It's definitely not a healthy choice to go out and spend so much, but I mean it is obvious the real problem is something else. That emotional void, a feeling of being misunderstood, not appreciated, not enough, the list goes on..... I hope by now she and her husband have their life sorted out.

I sold shoes for years. I know that women buy shoes to feel better. Because they work in jobs where they are treated like CRAP, or they have been through terrible financial times and finely have a BIT of money, they go wild. Buying "nice things" makes them feel safe, secure, happy. Buying a lot of food is a sign that they are trying to make up for a big emptiness inside. I am on disability and have bad feet. I have four sets of footwear; the expensive walking shoes in a man's super wide, the expensive pair of men's sandals in super wide, the expensive pair of women's ankle winter boots in super wide, and the around the house rubber sandals in a man's size. Irony. What shocks me is watching the husband and wife sit down to eat, AND HAVE THEIR LAPTOPS IN FRONT OF THEM!!!! NO!!! When you sit down to eat together, the laptops stay on the desks!!! She really needs consistent therapy to address the reasons she shops & vacations & they could use some help in their relationship too cuz her husband is a very ignorant man.
@jasha75794 жыл бұрын
Yeah, one reason many want in a relationship (unconsciously) is to have someone who can put yourself together and not let you do absolutely whatever you want and can. What fun is it to be with someone who never is a challenge?

I think buying a cheap 2 pound sandwich is good idea but if you have the time to make it at home ok. No need to go to strict on food.

why not stop going to shops altogether? she does not need an clothes or shoes ... she could stay away from the shops for a year and clear her debt ... the grocer / chemist is required that is it .....

Who has their credit card statements sitting right there on top of the dresser especially when she's married and probably doesn't want her husband to know what she's spending they should have to dig for this information

She's done something to her teeth. They look kinda fake and too white. That can't have been cheap either. I do feel bad for her when she talks about her father's expectations towards her. I can somewhat relate.

I don't understand this "I'm a shopaholic, I can't help it, I like nice things" BS. It's immaturity and can only happen because others keep bailing them out. Sickening to waste all that money on SHOES. Jesus.

If she feels so bad about not earning the same as her husband, wouldn't she be better off investing her holiday and shoes money for a couple of years of specialisation courses in IT or computing /programming to add to her skillset . Most likely, she's got a relatively rich husband, she got comfortable in her routine, her husband was happy her not contributing financially and she earns 30k a year to spend however she wants, easy life.

Does she not know you can freeze most things? You can pre-make and freeze meals too. So nice to have homemade food (especially homemade soup in the winter and when sick) when you don't feel like cooking. I also 1) love cooking, especially soups, 2) broke AF, so I'm a bit biased.

seems a nice woman but her choice of shoes is awful. Very impractical, a dream image of herself and life? I was living in actual Brighton at the time (pre bank crash I think) and shopping was mad until it all fell apart. The shoes were my worst nightmare, 80's style, pointy courts with vertiginous heels that you could hardly walk in! I did get some gold platforms in a sale, but hardly wore them and later sold them on. 'Glamorous' shoes, how many pairs do you need unless you are in the top 1 percent? I occasionally see a very pretty pair of party shoes, and might buy them, but price, quality and waiting for sales is better. Better to spend money on your day to day wardrobe, your home and garden. Now shoes are more practical and comfortable and there is a huge choice of styles. Also want to make the point that because of the bombardment of body image on women, many who are not happy with their body will buy shoes as they don't have to worry about fit and look. It's better to spend less time shopping and do more exercise, that also helps your resilience and mental health, and will result in better body image. There are so many ways to keep fit. Her busband is very tolerant but is he giving her enough attention? I too would love to see a follow up of these people now. Wish them all the best.
