I fed the text of the opinion into ChatGPT to get the reality: In summary, it is not illegal to be homeless. However, in 2024, the Supreme Court of the United States heard a case where a class of homeless individuals sued the city of Grants Pass in Oregon for violating the Eighth Amendment, which forbids "cruel and unusual punishments". They argued that the city's ordinances prohibiting public camping and levying punishments on violations were not fair. A district court sided with the plaintiffs but the Supreme Court eventually reversed this ruling because the local ordinances did not single out the status of being homeless but applied generally to all members of the public. The Supreme Court, however, stressed that homelessness is a complex issue that needs multifaceted solutions.

Terry, it isn't about homelessness, it's about "control". Can't control you if they can't find you. It's about being ungovernable.

Talk about kicking someone when they are already down, unreal! Terry, I was seriously injured, and wasn't taken to a hospital, then the people that caused this injury tried to cover up what they did! Wow, this is so sad for people that are in a homeless situation. Very, very, sad. War veterans should be treated with utmost respect! So many people need help, this is heartbreaking.

How much power do you have over yourself? How much power do you give away? Just because THEY say so doesn't mean they can take our rights away. Unless you don't know who you are or what your rights are? No one can take them from you. You must give them away.

I'm a retired VA nurse for 20 yrs. The stories I've heard are horrific. Yes VA has a lot of programs. My last 8 yrs were at the domiciliary where homeless vets lived and got treatment for many issues. It's not just that even how can even normal non addicted people pay 2000$ and up for a place to live. It's atrocious. I feel for any that can't afford housing. I do sympathize. I car camp and people don't like that even. It's fuxxed up

Don't get outraged. Get informed. Why do grown adults who went through the "education" system do not remember the bill of rights? 1st has 5 elements 3rd is not relevant but 4,5,6,8 are crucial to know!!!

People who use drugs or alcohol to numb trauma. Many are highly sensitive and it's difficult to feel what others are feeling. My brother Pete drank and used heroine and died of an overdose in 2017

It sounds like your friend (Vietnam veteran) was dealing with a Bouncing Betty anti-personnel mine. Charlie used those all over South Vietnam. Such events scar people for life. It makes no sense that we start wars and waste money that coild house homeless families and veterans. We should provide help to the mentally ill and addicted as well!!

Excellent LIVE. I also watched it again on the replay. I'll need a hot minute to gather my thoughts before commenting further... it breaks 💔 😢 😞 😪 my heart ❤ 💔 😢 hearing this. Ok, I took a deep breath! For more than two decades I volunteered for the Gold Star Families 🌟 honoring their Fallen Heroes. For them there are NO REDOS. Yet, those who were "lucky enough" to "knock it out and get back" they are FOREVER CHANGED. No one, not family or friends can understand their human conditions UNLESS THEY TOO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING THEMSELVES. We hear and we say (chant even) how we are a GRATEFUL NATION. Sadly it is one of the many national LIES told by our politicians and society in general. The vast majority of our nation's Fallen Heros and "Broken 💔 Heros" are soon forgotten within 3 - 6 months of their returning home. The Homeless or Houseless are forgotten because the USA has become a nation that does not manufacture anything. We are a consumer driven economy and money turns over only for the gainfully Employed. Those who DO NOT OR CAN NOT WORK have become "of zero value" 😢 in the microcosm of the world's global societies. HEART-LESS-NESS 💔 has replaced them or cast them out completely to an underground existence 💔. To see this, one only needs to compare your local food banks and Homeless shelters to your local Pet Stores and Doggy 🐕 Daycares... IT'S A REAL EYE OPENER! I'll leave it with that dramatic comparison!

Hey there Sweet MaTerry ❤❤❤❤ I watched the video then went to research. I don’t know what to think. Seems the homeless situation in America should be top priority for our government. The solution is not to criminalize being poor. While raising prices on everything at the same time! 😢 I myself at this time having to stay with family. Don’t let this situation control your emotions my friend. It breaks my heart to see you sad. Maybe we should get together with others and buy land to start our own off grid community! Not in California though 😂😊❤❤❤❤

0:21 Such a decision, allowing criminal punishment for being unsheltered within the city limits of Grants Pass, Oregon, sets precedence for other cities to act accordingly, which undermines The Americans with Disabilities Act, and the "cruel and unusual punishment" clause in the Eighth Amendment. That's the black and white of it. Now what? I will join my voice with others in outrage of the flagrant ignorance of this ruling. I will research where I can join others to prevent such decisions, such undoing, the destruction, the inevitable direction, in violation of human rights, where our current system of justice is headed.
