Even if this whole show is scripted, that's okay because it is pushing forward a positive message that many transgender youth in today's society need in their lives. Being trans needs to be normalized, it needs to be in the media and it needs to have this much attention so trans teens don't feel like freaks and ultimately kill themselves. Mo Vil I've heard (and imo agree) that it's weather-related. Regions with longer winters or rainy summers tend to have a culture of removing one's shoes, because you'd otherwise be tracking in mud, snow, and leaving road-salt stains which degrade flooring. In such places, social conventions evolved around this principle, though there may be exceptions.
