Last year, I dedicated my bench time to only finishing kits I had started. I had a dozen of them and got ten of them finished and on the shelf. Now, I am a lot more at peace with my building. That really worked for me.

Great video! I've always wondered if there were modelers like me that have so many projects on the go, but have difficulty getting them over the finish line. I've got a lot of unfinished projects that I really want to complete. My problem is I'm always eager to enter group builds, and get discouraged when I don't complete them in time. That kills any desire in me to finish the model, and I stick it on the shelf in anticipation of the next group build. Looking around at the incomplete models in my workshop I can say that easily 95% of them are group builds that didn't get finished by the deadline. I'm currently in two Facebook group builds that finish at end of June. I have a chance to get one done, so I'm focused on that one at the moment. I told myself that I'm not entering any more group builds for the remainder of this year, and will instead focus on completing the kits that are so close to being finished. A good 80% are already past the decal stage, and just need the final parts glued on.

Overwhelmed is correct, as a modeler I think the same way. And at the end of the week I pickup something that will stay sealed for years. Good luck buddy. I'll keep watching. Enjoy your tips, builds and reviews.

I think we've all been there if not still there... I've managed to be more picky when buying new kits but the unfinished projects are harder to manage... it depends on what stopped you from building... if it's just an immediate demand on your time , modeling is easy to get back to because you can't wait to get back to it... but if the reason is that the next step to complete the kit is a challange, that can be harder to motivate yourself to do. You have to be confident in your ability to over come the challenge, otherwise you'll wait until you think you can handle it... that becomes never if you wait long enough... the only thing I've heard that helps with that is the statement "Done is better than perfect"... words to model by...

I understand completely, what you are saying. I don't even know how many kits I have to build? For some reason I even have doubles of some. I started on the 65 Buick Riviera and found an original MPC 1982 Z28 on Ebay exactly like the one I built as a kid. So it jumped the que. But like you, I am feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated because my attention is being pulled in all directions that you have no focus. I have put the breaks on my spending too for many reasons but what you said rings true. I just found your channel and subscribed. I am planning on starting my own channel soon because friends at work told me I need to start show casing my builds and help newcomers into the hobby. I just bought a tripod for my cell phone and will look into how to edit and create on KZbin. Thank you for sharing and take care.

And I thought I was the only one feeling this way! I also want to focus on building and not just collecting kits. As with most of us, I have more kits than I could ever build. I keep buying kits, saying to myself that I want to build that, meanwhile I have a list of projects not started and stalled builds just waiting. I think we all kind of get caught up in it and lose focus. Thanks for sharing. As you can see from the comments, I think a lot is us share your feeling. Look forward to your updates on your renewed focus.

I can’t stop buying kits and decals. I’m in the same boat. I have 3 kits on the build table, 9 prepped waiting in the wings and 5 on the construction/fab. Table. It’s taking me forever to finish builds this year. Last year I completed 23 builds, but this year I’ve only managed to complete 6. I feel your pain. Keep calm and model on.

I feel so identified with this video! Actually is the first video of you that I see and you can’t be more true about it. Been close to 10 years I’m the hobby, and this week decided that wasn’t going to buy more. That was until Walmart hit new pallet,so, now I really decided, not one more kit until summer at least. I got close to 10 unfinished, and 130 or so collected

Just subscribed, only watched a few of your videos. They did speak to me, I like a stiff drink when I am building as well. That all being said, want to say that I find myself in the same boat. I have a lot of unbuilt kits. And a lot of started projects, the fun part to me is the research of the projects. It is also what slows me down, sometimes to a crawl. But I enjoy it. Thanks for your time, I plan to watch all of your videos. Wish you the best in your endeavors.

Man, as a kid I had the time, but never the money or space. It was only one kit at a time, saving up for the next one, hoping to score some Tamiya armor on sale. Then my 20's and 30's roll around-- got a job, an empty apartment-- plenty of space to set up my airbrush booth and dryin racks. Too bad I was always working... Now I'm in my 40's and a father. I've got a different job that gives me a good stretch of days off, but the wife and kid of taken up all the space I once had. _You just can't win!_

if they went back to making life scale (gun) model kits , i would get back into modeling . because when i was a kid in the late '70's all through the '80's i didnt learn about gun model kits until just before they were discontinued for whatever reason, but if they made a come back i would model again. i really do not want to pay nearly $500 bucks for an old model box from ebay that might not have all the parts. and paying that much you might as well buy a real gun anyway.

I also 3d resin print and like you I have many at this point I think about 20 or so models I do 1/10-1/6 scale figures so not small. I have them in boxes and it’s very easy to print the newest one you get because wow that’s rad I need that. Then when it’s done you find another and so on. And you end up as you said not as enthusiastic to finish the one you’ve just done because the new one is well new.

And people have asked my why I dont have a stash I build as I buy a kit and been doing that since I started back in 1957

I here you brother.... I see this in all sorts of hobbies.. From modeling..to RC enthusiasts.. model trains ..even things like hot rod and race car buiders..heck I see shows on Hombuilt Aircraft builders.. And now there is a big push with the flight simulator community and racing community with all sorts of new ways to build and fly your own fantasy go fly anything ship..(from from props to fighter jets..I am a flight Simmer and I have all sorts of sim stuff ..waaay too much..:0).. They go from one unfinished project to another..never really finishing anything. Governments do it.. just with deeper pockets. $$$$ Have you seen the budget for the DOD?? It's in the billions ( trillions probably) the MIC..is gobbling up money like a PACMAN game... And the beat goes on...and on and on.... It's in our blood to build and experiment..tinker and explore. IT AIN'T GONNA STOP. We love this...❤ Great video!!
