The black artificial muscle suit he wears under the armor is part of the armour. It is the connection between the astartes body and the power armor. It increase the strenght of the astartes and help the armor to inject combat stimulants or medical treatment into the body of the marine over those cables you have seen. And to state an astartes can even walk in his power armor even if the powerpack (backpack ) has no power or is damaged. Also the muscle suit in combinatine with the black carapace ( the metal connection plugs in the marines body - to keep it simple ) allow the astartes to feel with the armor like it is his skin. You can read about it in the Space Wolf book " Space Wolf" where the young Ragnar Blackmane has his training to become a Space Marine and learning this with the first time he is in his Armour. Also the carapace works as a sealing against the enviroment the marine is fighting in. Temperature control, air pressure stuff like this. All these functions are controlled by the machine spirit. A form of AI but a very basic one with no free will or the ability to evolve. - also explaining in very simple terms to not dive to deep into faction connections and lore. And it also helping with the poop and pee problem. Reading further on your own risk. You have been warned!!! The muscle suit collects the poop and pee and transfer it into the armour and it is converted into water and nutrition paste. So in easy they eat their own recycled body products ( combat rations if needed ). Hope this helps some of you to understand it a little bit better. English isnt my first language so pls be kind with my text slips XD

erasmus was intending to make a full movie, the 10 minute long intro for the movie is gold in its own right, and well worth a look. though if you want a look at what we used to get back in the day when live action was a thing when CDs first came out and game developers had all this space they didnt know what top do with... the cinamatic edit of the cutscenes of the game "final liberation" has been uploaded to youtube as one long video. my nostalgia says it is great :) the channel "Peon" put it all together a year ago, almost 30 minutes of hamming it up with costumes and 90s CGI

I'm happy you got so much out of this, it's refreshing to see what this shows to someone new to the setting! The animation quality and all the details they added are impressive. To me, this works best to show roughly what parts of the power armour there are, and as a mood piece. I remember the site made a point of saying this is lore, but try to imagine a marine, or tens, or hundreds getting ready like this all the time, haha. I suppose it's possible when the ships are kilometers long, but still, something seems unusual. I will say there are exceptions to this process, as in the Astartes videos, marines can put on their helmets or remove them casually or urgently. Miniatures of space marines sometimes stow helmets on their belts. Of course they can use weapons without the who ritual as needed, but it's down to time, space, the individual marine and their chapter/legion. Speaking of chapters, yes, it's grimdark, and sure, if there must be posterboys I'm fine with it being Ultramarines. Still, hmm, maybe this is a bit too grim dark for Ultramarines, haha. They could've even gone harder using this tone with Black Templars or Iron Hands, but it's fine. Ultramarines are still grim, but scholarly :) I might sound humourless but no, most marines aren't stuck in one suit for life. Some of them are, but that'a another heretical story lol Things changed since the legion days of 30k/the Great Crusade/Horus Heresy. In the current setting 40k, most chapters have a scout company of new marines who don't quite have all the implants and training to wear the power armour you see here. These scouts wear carapace armour that only protects the torso, but they can play a bit sneakier. At the other extreme, veteran marines can be trained and entrusted to use Terminator - or tactical dreadnaught - armour. These make the wearer like a walking tank and are super rare in 40k. Between these are typical power armour, but they were made in several different marks as different situations and technologies arose. Most of those marks can be mixed and matched. If somehow this hasn't worn you out - sorry, haha - Arbitor Ian is just one youtuber with a great video on it, probably Every Mark of Power Armour or something like that :)

In the Ultramarine Books about Uriel Ventris from the 4th Company ( if i remember the Company correctly ) he and his best friend ( also soldier under his command ) Pasanius are on another planet while on a Crusade for their actions that where against the guidelines of the Codex Astartes. On that planet they found several Power Armours from the "Sons of Guilliman" chapter. And they used 2 of them in replacement for their own cause ( damaged or lost on the iron Warriors demon world ). So this suit up could be the full ritual one. But for what i know they also can remove the Pieces themself if needed for repairs or patch up with ceramic cement.

@@Vision1100 They absolutely can remove and wear them themselves. Remember the Salamanders make their own armor and weapons, and when they are given such from the Mechanicus they are quick to modify them for personal use. Both of which drive the Mechanicus nuts because no salamander has regulation armor or weapons due to all the modifications they make to them. The Black Templar often do field repairs themselves as well. Due to being on an endless crusade, they cannot always wait for the Mechanicus to do repairs. The Space Wolves similarly are like the Templar in that they do a lot of repairs themselves. In the Wolves case this is due to not fully trusting the Mechanicus. More than once the Wolves have asked forge brothers of the Salamanders to make things for them (Black Templar and Space Wolves have both done this).

I have some recommendations: 1) Angels of Death - 12 episodes 15 min each - This I consider the best complete story of WH40k there is till today. Everything you would expect from battle story of bunch of space marines (blood angels) fighting tyranids. 2) The Exodite and Iron Within - would-be good shows, but canceled for some reason, so few good episodes just let-out hanging without real ending. Pity. 3) Pariah Nexus - newest show, and I heard a lot of good things about it, but didn't watch it myself 4) Hammer and Bolter - WH40k and WH fantasy, every episode is it's own story, worth mentioning, but not my cup of tea. And as a bonus I just need to mention: The Lord Inquisitor - Prologue - fan animated, games workshop canceled 1 episode everyone should watch GUARDSMAN (2018) - live action short Helsreach The Movie (2019) - animated audiobook that everyone points out.

Unfortunately Baldermorts overview is like 45min and this one is 15. So, content-wise, The Exploring Series is prolly better to react to. You should check out Warrior Tier. They do amazing 40k stories from a 1st person perspective. The voice acting is great. The Ogryn one is a good one to start with. The Lamenters one is powerful.

You were right about the "ritual". After the period when thinking machines have almost wiped out humanity, any similar technique is forbidden. All machine maintenance takes place as a ritual, they do the same thing you'd find today for engine maintenance, but for them, it's embalming the machine spirit with sacred oil, etc. Most of the activities associated with the Mechanicus take the form of a ritual. Including putting on and assembly of power armor.

Theres good stuff on warhammer plus. Not a ton of content but whats there is good. Theres a couple shows that have over ten episodes. Its definitely worth a month or two of subscribing to watch them. Theres one episode of angels of death called kill command on youtube for free. Its a show made by richard boylan. Hes the one who made helsreach which is a superb fan film on youtube. His work on that was how he got hired by games workshop.

@ti8ick I think you'll be ok. It's basically just a prequel episode to the main series showing how this one character became the captain of a blood angels ship. Shows how there's a lot more to a space marine chapter that just the marines. There's lots of normal humans that make up the ship crews and lots of other positions. Also shows a human interaction with a machine spirit.

Many Space Marine armors and weapons are inherited from previous dead Space Marines of many generations. So some of them are literally carrying into battle millennia old sacred relics that have killed thousands of humanity enemies, such relics themselves deserve utmost respect hence the prayer. And in the 40k universe, belief if strong enough, can be channeled through the Warp into reality so those relics can be incredibly powerful.

The armour is supposed to handle bodily functions, a bit like a Dune Stillsuit, plus their enhanced biology and special Astartes food is very high in protein (along with many other ingredients that'd kill non-augmented normal humans, so likely not much excrement production from combat rations(, stims and medicae drugs from the suit, or an Apothicary,) akin to SR-71 pilots pre-flight meals being mostly protein rich to reduced fecal matter relative to energy content per gram/ounce.

The armor is totally independent from the environment. It has its own oxygen and takes care of things like feeding and pooping. Or to be precise Space Marines are vastly different and their bodies are far more perfect than normal human's - they produce so little extremities that Space Marine armor can take care of it. I mean Space Marines can survive in the hard vacuum of space in those armors of theirs. And you cannot poison them with any neurotoxin unless you breach the armor.

The armor can be taken off, and usually is when a battle brother is not actively campaigning or otherwise about to face battle. The armor is designed to be worn indefinitely, often for months or years at a time. Its internal systems process and filter bodily waste materials, recycling them into nutrient paste the Astartes can then eat.

The armour is powered and the power source is in the "backpack" and once it is connected and powered it becomes like a second skin. The space marine doesn't feel the weight of the armour, the armour enhances his strength and mobility.

There are animation shows on Warhammer + actually. The one I can easily recomend is Pariah Nexus which follows a Space Marine from the Salamenders chapter with a Battle Sister fighting Necrons. There's Angels of Death as well, but it's better to know a little bit about the Blood Angels for this one because the show is centered on them

Something important to detail: The equipment of the space marine (including the armor) is already used. This is an important element of the series: Human can barely manufacture something briand new because they want to avoid scientific progress (Technoheresy)

Uh...no. Humans make things all the time, they just do so according to the standard template. Hive cities are giant factories that constantly make shells, bullets, missiles, vehicles, and armor. Play Darktide and you actually fight through a forge area where the characters even comment on the fact they make tanks there (Veterans will comment on seeing a Leman Russ on the assembly line). Space Marine armor takes forever to make however. This is due to the fact the Mechanicus refuses to make it without performing every single ritual for every single step. So just making a new helmet can take nearly a month. The ceramite itself also takes forever to to create so there is that part too. Technoheresy is when you create, not when you simply build. Basically everything Cawl does is technoheresy. The Primarus Marines are even technoheresy as Cawl created the method by which they are made, AND he created the new armor and such they use. The Mechanicus consider most of what the Salamanders do to be on the verge of technoheresy (they build their own armor and weapons according to old templates from Vulcan, and any they get from the Mechanicus they personalize for their own needs). Just following the STC schematics however is not technoheresy which is what all of humanity does. The real reason that armor is used armor is because it takes to long for the Mechanicus to make new armor. So they use what they can from the armor of the dead and only replace damaged parts. Usually two or three damaged armors can be combined into one functional set.

Once you've watched some more and feel familiar with the 40k universe i recommend the Helsreach series, an audiobook adapted into a movie. The story is fantastic and it follows the best space marine chapter The Black Templars.

Space Marines used to see what the helmet (and the suits other sensors) see, rather than looking through the eye pieces of the helmet itself. But the Primaris were so strong they decided to give everyone else a chance by letting you shoot them in the damn eyeballs. if you see a similarity to starcraft... then yes, you do. starcraft was supposed to be a 40k game, but they couldnt get the license. which is why the terrans look so much like marines, the protoss are eldar, and the zerg are tyranids. considering how well starcraft has done for itself, GW really buggered that one. but this was before they started handing out the lisence to every developer and their dog.

I highly recommend both Warrior Tier and Vox in the Void. Both make similar content and both make some of the best YT Warhammer 40k content. Warrior Tier’s “Lamenters Story” and Vox in the Void’s “Gav and Bob” series would be my recommendations for their respective first watches.

Everything is recycled in the suit to feed the reactor and the marine. There is films (not great) there are additions to games. The lore is massive and they go into how a marine is made. Most of the successful candidates have gone through many many trials to get there. You have to remember they are expendable in the eyes of the emperor, they are his to use as the tools to build and defend the Imperium. Marines are fighting machines, built to be the best. They can eat anything.

The Trailers for 40k 9th and 10th edition as well as Kill Team are really cool, though also on the shorter side. Most fan projects are on the shorter side, though there are a few really nice ones. I think there is still a version of Astartes on KZbin, definitely worth checking out. SODAZ made really nice videos, like 'Death Korps of Krieg', though he's moved on to making mostly Halo Animations from what I can tell, so you'd have to go for the Reuploads on a different channel. I also like the 'Lord Inquisitor' project, or what we got from that before they moved on. The Grey Knights Teaser has a somewhat similar idea to this video (still very awesome as far as I am concerned), and the Prologue is also very nice. If you ever feel like checking out the Fantasy side of Warhammer, the Total War Warhammer Trailers are almost all really nice.
