The armour isn't brand new. They go through this ritual every time he puts the armour back on. You can tell from the studs in his head that he's a veteran. They don't keep the armour on 24/7 only when they're in battle etc They do sleep but they can go days, maybe weeks without sleep if they have to. But will feel tired etc if they don't sleep (obviously don't need as much sleep as the average human)

A human in this scenario who is sleep deprived would barely even remember his own name, nevermind actually trying to take aim and shoot with any meaningful accuracy. A space marine is biologically engineered to go weeks without sleep while fighting non stop (NON STOP) for that entire period. That's the massive difference. I'd estimate that a normal human could at most go 3 days of non stop fighting without sleep and water before they pass out or die.

They can and do take their armour off, though this is a ritual just as involved as putting it on. They can also go weeks and months without taking it off, if that's what their deployment or general circumstances require. How much Astartes take their armour off, and for how long, can vary between chapters with different traditions. Some chapters only wear have theirs when deployed, and remove it when they leave combat to R&R in a safe zone, whether that's a Chapter warship in space or a secure fortress on the ground. Or chapter traditions may dictate that Astartes only remove their armour when there's good, practical reason to do so: for repairs or ceremonies, or when they are being issued a new set with more bling because of a promotion of rank or position. Other chapters still might dictate that their Astartes have the same set of armour throughout their career, and only remove it when absolutely necessary: when the Astartes needs to undergo medical procedures, or when they've miraculously survived despite their armour taking damage that requires extensive repair, even if removing the armour would make lesser repairs or other downtime activities more practical.

They actually take their armor off for routines that don't require it, and even some chapters take their time off to do something else that isn't training and killing, Blood Angels for example are painters, Ultramarines are politicians, Imperial Fists are architects etc, etc. I'd guess even for some types of training, they wouldn't put their armor on, but would use the lighter armor that Scouts use.

In the books they describe Blood angel marines sparring against each other without their armour. Even Primarchs that "take a day off" drinking ( Horus/Leman Russ or doing administrative tasks ( Guilliman/Magnus). Some space marine like to remain in their armour to always be vigilant and patrouille area's or ship decks^^ For dreadnoughts its WAY DIFFERENT! (Edits for clarification) Space Marines actually rarely need to sleep due to one of the extra organs implanted during the process of becoming an Astartes. The organ allows them to shut off parts of their brain that need to rest while they continue to work, so a Space Marine sleeping is incredibly rare, and even then it's only for a few hours. Because of this Space Marines are pretty much constantly in action, and are thus almost always armored. Yes, the armor can be removed, but it requires what amounts to a NASCAR pit crew (although it can be performed by a single tech priest with the right equipment or a tech marine if they aren't busy) to do so. And the only times an Astartes will be seen without his armor falls roughly into 4 categories: 1) The Marine in question is off duty in their chapter's fortress monastery for an extended period of time. 2) The Marine has just come back from a successful campaign and is getting his armor repaired. 3) The Marine was injured and needs surgery. 4) The Marine was grievously wounded and is being shoved into a dreadnought sarcophagus. 5) The Marine has died and his body was able to be retrieved for the removal of gene-seed and funerary rites.

A Space Marines life is generally split between training/on a ship going somewhere/at the base, and in the field. They will generally armour up when deploying into the field, and stay in the armour until the campaign is done and they are extracted. That might be a few hours, or months. At the end of the campaign they will return to base, and remove the armour, and any repairs might be carried out then before the next deployment. But spare parts and even the technical skills are in short supply, so the armour us often a bit run down and also sacred.

Terminator armor, because it's much heavier and intricate, needs a full team of chapter serfs, tech preists and servitors to get it on and off. It’s more of an environmental suit so for example astronauts who have to do manual work outside in space be it on the moon or In the void, where the suit can be taken off where they might wear things like a garb or robe or even a special uniform made for them depending on the circumstances, however they do live the majority of their time in their armor where things like waste management can be done via an internal toilet system as well as multiple functions of the armor, which also includes combat stims like morphine, pain killers, to stimulants which ensures the prolonged activity of a marine (its like when you had about a hundred cups of coffee where your brain is full of caffeine), the armor also houses a liquid food storage system which can implant food into the user’s body without having to eat or drink, but due to the marines augmented metabolism a space marine can survive far longer without food or water even without their armor, as for the armors other features they mostly depend on what field of specializations they do for example a tech marine would be equipped with better sensors packages as well as an enhanced optic sensor, utility claw and so on, apothecary’s carry vanbraces which are equipped with things such as a drill, saw, narthisium which is like a plunger which is used to remove a fallen marines gene seed. And so on, a space marines armor uses micro fibers, and micro motors which are all numerologicaly connected directly to the marine allowing the marine to do things as if he wasn’t even wearing armor so for example imagine driving a car with a steering wheel, vs driving a car with just your mind with preprogrammed instructions

Taking the armour off is possible. It may not be practical in warzone/high risk environment. The implants are Black Carapace, basically Astrates/Armour interface. So the armour is like a second skin, felt and neurologically conected via the interface. The black underarmour is more "everyday" than a full ceramite plate and could do as protection in a pinch, but... Not ideal to fight in it. It is a kevlar vest to frontal armor of a Leopard tank. Still, on board of their battle barges, in transit between wars, those hulking monstrosities may chill and drink beer in their pants, sure... Albeit technically they do not have to remove their plate, as it has full body function support system built in. Some chapter may be less likely to do so, as they see the armour as a gift from the Emperor (not only Black Templars, but those have a sacred tradition of chaining their weapons to their armour, which makes removing it almost imposible...), other have complex cultural taboos regarding their kit (Carcaredones could kill a serf or lower ranking Astartes who did as much as touched their weapons by mistake)... The fact that Space Marines, while technically able to procreate, have a very low libido resulting from the Geneseed, makes for one less reason to remove the armour...

From receiving activation orders, taking his oath of moment, the ship ride there, the war, and the ship ride home, he is in the armor. 2) An Astartes requires substantially less active sleep than a human as they have the ability to put single sections of their brains to sleep at a time while still remaining conscious. The only time you'll see him sleeping is when he needs to rest the cerebellum. The longest record of an Astartes sleep deprivation is 362 days. This is held by the Crimson Fists chapter while defending their home world is an active firefight they entire time.

They can and do take their armor off. Sometimes it needs repair, sometimes it needs to be checked. But they don't have to take it off, since it feels less like an armor to them and more like another skin layer, thanks to neurological connection through The Interface (Black Carapace). They also technically don't need sleep, a good while back you reacted to space marine creation, it's mentioned that they can shut down parts of their brain at a time and it works like sleep. Also - why is the armor look scuffed and damaged? That's because it probably belonged to another astartes before, armors like that are not particularly easy to make and maintain, so if a space marine dies and his body is recovered they not only try to salvage the gene-seed organs, but also their equipment. Recycling, if you will.

In the 3rd person shooter “Space Marine” our hero doesn’t wear his helmet and I strongly suspect this is so we can relate to him better and watch him ‘act’ in cutscenes but according to canon a Marine would be at a massive disadvantage without his helmet and probably get his head popped when fighting against The Imperium’s toughest enemies.

Pretty sure they can only take their helmet off

I have a question for you and it is did you like the sa80 rifle when you were in the royal marines? I am asking this because many people say its garbage

I pretty sure that space marine already in service for 200 years the fact he have those 2 metal dots on his forehead. Also talking about weight space marine weight majority come from their physical form not the armor itself

I hear the book soul hunter about a group of nightlord Marines. And there are times in the training room where they don't wear their armor. And that are heretic Astartes.

They take off the Armor between warzones because believe it or not even the Astartes need to relax and to sleep..... as for putting it on and off the under suit they can put on and off themselves but the armor itself needs to be placed on them.

Just fyi, the silver studs above his eye denote him being a marine for 200 years so far. Each stud above the eye is 100 years. There are marines who have been in service for 1500 years. They are not immortal, just live a LONG time. To date in the lore, no marine has yet died of old age.

I thought silver studs were 50 years and gold were 100 each.

Most of the answers have already been put up in your comment section, but theres one i didn't see. "why is the armor already scuffed up?" Each piece of tech in the Imperium varies in age, but alot of it is hundreds, sometimes even thousands of years old. the marine in the vid has two service studs in his forehead, meaning he has been an active marine for 200+ years. His armor is ATLEAST that old, each chapter has different degrees of wear and tear on thier gear depending on the chapter, and supply, for example every single salamander is also a blacksmith and craftsman, so alot of their wargear is in tip top condition as they forge it and often repair it themselves, ultramarines are politicians, governers, philosophers and so on when not actively fighting, so their gear would be mostly maintained by mechanicus and servitors, who due to their dogmatic techno-religion, would never fully rebuild or inovate as messing too much with a machine is seen as heretical, (this is why Cawl waited until Guillimen woke up before unveiling the primaris, because if he didnt have a living primarch backing him, he would have been immediately accused of heresy by his own order and they would have turned on him, thats why Cawl is so controversial especially amongst his own order) on top of that, alot of marinee prefer to leave their armor with marks frok battle if it doesnt change its effectiveness, "badges of honor" basically.

the armouring of a space marine video is literally just GW saying "look at what we can now do, animation wise, with our 'in house' team of animators", and also cause why not make a video about a space marine putting his armour on
@warhound11612 жыл бұрын
Depending on chapter former legion traditions and also the individual a space marine can remove his armor some don't but others do some do it because it's required or they don't practice constantly wearing it also the damage are battle marks to some space Marines if the battle mark got there then he won't repair it or if they do they mark were it was and wear the mark as a trophy or some it's shame there armor is them it's no different then there arm legs eyes or organs the suit is to them its well... Them I don't know how else to say it really

you really need to watch to watch Vraks Chapter 1 And the marines not allways wear the armour
A smol tip. Even with timestamps in the video and stuff. Intro over 1 minute it stretching it. 30seconds still more than most people want. 10-20 seconds optimal. Your is 2minutes+

space marines wear power armour when ever they feel like it... they even wear it for months or years, it has a waste disposal system but it needs to be manualy cleaned every now and then.
