That place could be a scenery from Lord Of The Rings, Game Of Thrones, a tribal gathering of indigenous North Americans as well as of ancient Vikings. Outstanding! I totally agree with your statement on music and it's universal character to reach deep into our souls with or without lyrics, Rosalie. The ability to convey emotions, to tell a story even without words, to soothe the listeners, fire them up, make them smile or deeply touch them obviously isn't bound to understanding the language even when lyrics are used. Actually, I've seen a few vocal coaches react to this and Eivor flattens them. Nobody can explain what she did. I'm so glad you got to see this, Eivor getting back to her viking roots, and this is a woman who sells out concert halls. We all need to stay in touch with who we are. There's something enchanting about ancient, old or rarely-heard languages. I get the same goosebumps listening to songs in the various Celtic languages that are still being kept alive around the UK and the Republic of Ireland. They have a way of giving you a temporary, solid connection to your ancestors and an ancient, slower way of life that a lot of us feel the call of - even though we've never actually experienced it. It's magical :D

Music of the Far North has many similarities. Eivor learned throat singing from Tanya Tagaq of Nunuvat. Of course the Norse and Inuit met in Greenland and coexisted for 400 years, so it cannot be the first such learning. The Chulym of Siberia (see the band "Otyken") and other Siberians (Olox for a start) have similar sounds in their work.

The production values of the Norwegian broadcaster NRK are second to none and allow the artists that they record to shine more brightly. LOve your reaction to this! Tròdlabùndin = bound by trolls = entralled. bùndin = zu binden = to bind --> bound, it all stem from old Norse you know. Eivør is a guest artist here with the Norse band called Vamp. They are celebrating their 30 years jubeleum as a group, and are a national treasure. Their texts are in Norwegian and their sound is folky, there's some Irish folk inspiration, they have named it North Sea music. The drummer joining in is named Odin, as in the main Norse god, before Christianity. They let Eivor do some of her own work as part of the performance. The place is named Stigen (as in the ladder), probably due to the steep terrain you must master to make your way up from the fjord. It's on the UNESCO's protection list for it's unique placement, style, history. Vamp's most known song is Tir n'a noir (a mythical Irish place), text by my history teacher at high school. Really admire your passion! I would like to suggest eivor singing the oldest hymn in the Nordic countries .. here is the 'about' from the page .. Kolbeinn Tumason was a good poet and for the Battle of Víðines he wrote the hymn Heyr, himna smidður, which is still in the Icelandic hymn book and is the oldest hymn that exists in Icelandic and in fact the oldest hymn in the Nordic countries. Kolbeinn got a stone in the forehead which became his death. Your intuitive interpretation of what is going on is so to the point, and I am sorry I didn't see this video of yours until two months after. BUT! The english lyrics you read from is a bit oversimplifying. The song is not about a wizard, it is about a "Galdrmadur" = a man who teaches the art of galdr en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galdr . In short it is a way of casting a spell, used in everything from war to love. The singing on the inhale she does twice is one late interpretation of how these galdrs (sounds weird with english plural s...) could have sounded. She sings in Faroeese (as you correctly say) which is the nordic language most close to the old norse ( the "latin" of our little corner of the world)

@@rosalieelliottofficial i can highly reccomend a norwegian artist, susanne sundfor and the song "when the lord". it is a feature song for a norwegian documentary titled "self portrait" about the norwegian fotographer lene marie fossen, who suffered from anorexia since the age of ten. she took incredible portraits, despite her serious illness. she said about her work that its about human suffering more than being of a sick fotographer. she died short before the film premiered at the age of 34. you see suanne appearing in the video, too, since she became friends during their work together. it's such an emotional journey, an artwork more than a simple song. i wonder anyway why noone talks about susanne sundfor, she was already a superstar when aurora was a teenager and she is a role model for so many young women in the scaninavian music business.

I agree (about cultural "aproproation"), we all learn and are inspired by each others, which in it's essence, is a sign of love and respect. I'ts all a part of the natural order and develpoment of things/human kind. And we wouldn´t be who we are, or be, where we are to this day, if it wasn´t because we learned from each other. Whether something should be considered good or bad, it all depends on what we do with these things, and how we express certain things or aspects of things. And whether we exploit things purely out of selfish intentions, versus, doing things for a greater good and for other beneficial reasons then just our own good / selfish "needs"/pleasure. It a nonconscious behaviour to a degree, and a misuse of power and an attempt to exercise control/sovereignty over others thoughs and opinions, and a monopoly of what is believed to be considered right vs wrong, good vs bad, mine/yours vs theirs etc. It's a behaviour and mentality that has similarities with the woke culture and cancellation culture, where many of these people, often even don't understand, that they are actually doing the exact same thing against others, inwhich they think they are fighting against. I do however recognize the need for it, after many generations of imbalance, which have created an opposite counter culture/counterbalance. So i guess this tendency falls under the expression: "sometimes extreme circumstances requires extreme measures" (that it is sometimes necessary to over-exaggerate things in order to raise the awareness, of for example, many years of in-equality.

Greetings from Germany :-) I believe that if you are wondering why this music in combination with the setting has overwhelmed you so much, the answer might actually be quite simple: It is, to some extent, part of our DNA. I mean, historically speaking, there have only been four major cultural migrations: the African, the Asian, the Arabic, and the Scandinavian. And a significant part of the world's population with European roots has a Scandinavian background. And it has now been proven that DNA has a memory. So when we see and hear something as primitive as this, it triggers this memory and we feel a certain connection, even without understanding a word or knowing why. In German, I would now say: "It is more than just entertainment. It is a conversation." In German, both are written the same ("Unterhaltung"), but in context they mean different things. Here, it is not just about "entertaining" in the sense of amusement, but the artist is having a "conversation" or dialogue with the audience. She is telling us a story, and even though we don't understand a word, it feels familiar. That is, in my opinion, the magic behind it. Personally, I also experience this with Irish folk (-rock), which has a similar energy. Or with the Scottish Highlands, when I see them. If you want to enhance your experience with this song even more: there is a live version together with the Danish National Orchestra. It's even more epic :-)
