She sang the theme to the show "The last Kingdom", well the whole record really. I recommend it, it is on spotify and also a "pandemic from home"-recording on KZbin with the composer John Lunn. I love having that record on when I paint in my studio. Others suggest the "Falling free" song, which I also like, but one of my favourites of her is a song called "The swing". One of the few music experiences I share with my youngest daughter, Eivør transcends generations it seems.

I'm smiling as you talk about her "breathy" vocals, knowing what's coming later in the song. So true, the song and the setting were a perfect match. And NRK nailed it, artistically. As others have already said, absolutely treat yourself to Falling Free, live at the Old Theater in Torshavn. All of her music is wonderful. This video, and the Torshavn gig, are extra wonderful.

Tröll is nordic for what you Brits would call Trolls, but this word in Faeroese simply means "spellbound", by someone who is bound by "galdrar" (magic) - the second line is "galdramaður festi mig" (my Icelandic version of Eivör's Faeroese line). That means, syllable by syllable "magic man bound me", or something to that effect. I have been an Eivör fan for over a decade, ever since she was a young Faeroese girl practicing (and learning) her art in my native Iceland. Like only the Faeroese can do, she speaks and sings flawlessly in Icelandic, among other languages. Unfortunately we Icelanders cannot claim the same with Faeroese pronunciation, we are dismal at speaking proper Faeroese.

An astute reaction, as always, Nina. This is a rare example where the stunning beauty of the performance matches the glorious beauty of the setting. What an absolute treat for the very, very fortunate few who were able to attend and a boon for many more thanks to this exquisite recording (which is the work of the peerless Norwegian broadcaster NRK, who are the power behind Aurora's Nidarosdomen and HAIK concerts). I have watched this many, many times and it never fails to totally enthrall.

Nice to see a reaction to Eivør! The title means "spellbound". Trøll/troll/etc means, well, troll 😁 In Nordic folklore, trolls were often considered to be magical beings. The word pops up in modern use now and then, for instance "trollkarl" (lit. "troll-man") in Swedish means magician, nowadays usually referring to stage magicians. Thanks for the reaction!

I think what makes this entire masterpiece so special is that it reaches out to an ancient part of our soul. Something that we as human beings remember. Despite the fact that it was way before our time. At the dawn of mankind. Something in us remembers. We may not be able to put it in words but we sure can feel it. This touches something in us. Something that was passed on to us. From our ancestors.

Oh nice! Eivør is one of my favorites. She’s got her traditional folk style music but iirc she’s got a jazz background as well. Plus she’s got a good bit of her own pop music as well. Her album Slør has an entire English version (Trøllabundin comes from this album). Segl is her most recent album that came out in 2020 and it’s my favorite. It’s got more of a produced pop sound and is one of my favorites from that year. Let It Come from Segl is great. Falling Free is another great song from her much earlier album “Room” from 2012. It’s super impressive vocally.

Eivør Pálsdóttir is one of the 21st century's most underrated voices both for her musicality and her versatility . As everyone has probably said you must listen to " Falling Free " ( at least ) BTW another voice that falls in to the category of " who ? " but deserves so much more recognition is that of Anneke van Giersbergen a wonderful Dutch singer ( who incidentally was an inspiration to Floor Jansen when Floor was young ) . If you haven't listened to her then a good place to start might be this - Ayreon " Valley of the Queens " - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipPIk4Jrd7-cY6s - it's a very short piece but will give you a taster ( and if you haven't seen it - a surprise )

Thank you Nina. This outstanding reaction to such an outstanding performance makes it all double up. I`ve always admiered this performance since I first saw it some years ago. Even the TV-produsers of this was (naturally) inspired in their handeling of this musical event. As a norwegian, I was blown away by this, and even a feeling of pride that this even took place in my home country. 😊 This consert was set up with the very popular norwegian group called "Wamp". I actually just was made aware that Eivør is about to launch a few conserts with "Wardruna" in Denmark, under the label "Viking". I would so love to go to, but sadly not able to do so. Hoping for some more great YT videos to show up from THAT event as well. Even Aurora has been co-working with "Wardruna". This Norwegian group are known for their work in trad. nordic music, that even might transcend traditions as they go way back to what music might have been like among the vikings. I heard about Eivør, but never sat down to listen to now. I noticed she is from Faroes Islands. The only artists I know from there is Týr and a member of Týr, Heri Joensen who put together an international band project called Surma. Eivør is brilliant, how she presents music to just her voice and a drum. What grabs me is the musical atmosphere and feeling she presents. I want to say, thank you Nina, I will definitely will want to listen to more of Eivør. There are only two singers I know, who is like her which is impressive is Aurora (which you have covered) and Fabienne Erni of Swiss Folk Metal band Eluveitie. Similar track would be Eluveitie - Artio, which is very much voice driven like Eivør.

My fave version of Eivor singing this is by Copenhagen Records. She sings this differently on her official vid too, however the version on the Copenhagen Records KZbin, IMO is the best. In that performance she primarily Yoiks through a short version of Trollunbundin. Its absolutely mind blowing. Vocal range is off the planet. It's raw, wild and beautiful, evoking deep ancestral connections.
