Nice little detail in the "Endeavor's realization" scene: Endeavor and Touya were engaged in a dancing pose, which is a nod to ss6 when Touya invited Endeavor to a dance in hell. Both were holding each other's missing arm - Endeavor missing his right arm from the AFO fight and Touya with his right arm blown off by himself just after that "Dad,look" punch. That's a masterfully symbolic frame.

This season has been PEAK and as ever All Might remains the mountain GOAT. With things at their worst he proves his true heroic quality beyond the great power he cultivated with OFA, with his even stronger ability to reach out to people in their darkest moments and inspire them with hope. Hope and hype. There is something so raw and emotional about seeing him rock up to the devil and against the odds with a smile. Speaking of GOATs they brought in a whole herd of some of MHA's best animators for this episode and it really shows. Absolutely gorgeous.

Shoto really lives up to being called the “hero of the family” here huh. 😅 And for as monstrous as Touya has become, I feel like it’s only fair for the family to be the ones to ultimately save him from getting himself killed completely. And it was just in the nick of time too, since Endeavor had already given up on him yet again. There’s a lot of complicated feelings happening here, and I honestly wasn’t expecting the whole family to end up on the battlefield, but hey, it’s finally time for Touya to get the attention he’s deserved all this time.

Theres a scene that was cut from this episode with Mr. Compress and Geten talking in prison, explaining what essentially happens with Dabi. His quirk didnt awaken, he had ice powers from the start. Thats the tragic irony of the Todoroki family. Had Endeavor not given up on Toya right away, this would have been a happy household

I love this episode and the Todoroki family in general. Endeavor sees that Touya on the brink of death is able to utilize Rei's quirk. This isn’t some sign that Touya was the son Enji wanted all along. This is showing Endeavor, "Hey, look. Touya's quirk is finally what you wanted it to be. But your son had to be pushed to the brink of death to make it happen. Was it really worth it?" Everything that Endeavor has ever wanted is slapping him in the face because of how much it hurt his family. So he prepares to take the hurt and vanish along with Touya. Except that doesn't happen. Unlike with Hood and AFO, Endeavor isn't allowed to burn away with a Prominence Burn. Endeavor's arc is about atonement. Death is the easy way out for him. Actually facing what he's done is much harder. Rei felt that she also failed Touya. So she saves both him and Endeavor. The rest of the family has had their chance to hear Endeavor's apology and atonement. Touya has not. So Endeavor is not allowed to die. Speaking of Touya, he finally has the attention of the entire family but it has to be under such cruel circumstances. He wishes it could've happened sooner and thinks that he doesn't want to die yet. There are still moments he wants to experience. But he still hates Endeavor. And a part of him still hates what living represents. So he pours those feelings out and tells how he really feels. And Endeavor listens. Endeavor watches Touya and embraces his emotions. Two things he didn't do when Touya was a kid. This path forward wasn't forged just because of Shoto. It wasn't forged just because of Endeavor and Rei. But all of the family coming together.

Rei did fail Touya just as much as Endeavor did, it was her neglect that gave him the free time to keep training with his quirk in secret. It wasn't exactly fair to be told "You clean up this mess I made, Im gonna be too busy with work and training Shoto" but that was the hand she was dealt and instead she ignored Toya to play favorites with Shoto. She owed him that apology too.

When the all might moment happened and I AM HERE! showed up on screen i legitimately, full-heartedly shouted "YEAH!!" because I have been waiting two fucking years for that to happen. And. This has to be one of the most masterful episodes in My Hero Academia ever. It sent chills down my spine and made me tear up as if it was my first time seeing these events, despite having know about them for a long time. The catharsis I felt watching it was the kind of full-body rawness that comes after a good cry, even though tears never left my eyes. And to think that this episode covered 5 1/2 entire chapters of the manga -- 77 pages total, the most of any My Hero episode ever. You'd think that an episode that packs that much source material in would suffer from pacing issues or have to cut out important manga material, but every single moment was poignant and perfect. I'm in awe. Also, this episode makes Death Arms' arc unironically one of my favorite character arcs in this entire show, up there with Bakugo and Endeavor. He doesn't have nearly the amount of screen time or relevance as either one of those two, but the fact that such a minor character was able to have such an emotional and complete character arc as his is mind blowing. To wrap it all up by having him act in the very way that he admonished Deku for all the way back in episode one, after realizing that he was never really a "true hero" to begin with, shows just how much self-reflection and transformation he's undergone while we weren't looking. Phenomenal. Legendary. My Hero Academia has NO BUSINESS being this peak.

This is the first time I am listening to the full post discussion and man I just have to say it is a breath of fresh air having this kind of in depth engagement from you guys. There are few comprable channels, though plenty of good reactors with excellent media literacy, of course you guys are also so engaged it is endlessly entertaining.

Alright. This episode in my opinion is one of if not THE most hyped up episode among the manga readers going into this season. And I spent the last few hours draining the pool I wept watching it because they did this episode ALL of the justice it deserves. The evacuees are watching Deku fight Shigaraki and it just can't be denied. Deku has AGAIN unleashed a new level of OFA. I can't for certain say its 100% complete YET (that requires Deku just throwing restraint to the wind and NOT breaking his arms) but judging by the gigantic energy tornado that are All-Might's trademark, we are looking at no less than 90% moved up from an estimated 75% at the start of the war. Not only does OFA get stronger the more it's controlled, but I have no doubt it also stockpiles FASTER too. With no confirmation what energy is NOT stockpiled we can assume released energy goes right back home as well which is why OFA only ever gets stronger. So at these REALLY high percentages, stockpiling ONLY gets easier. At 90% controlled even if only moment of impact that puts Deku at an astonishing Mach 24.3 for what he's controlling and Mach 27 if he decides to unleash 100%/use Fa Jin which at this point I don't even know if 100% breaks his arms anymore! (With Gearshift and Fa Jin, Deku is at Mach 33.75 but we kinda need him to breathe right now) All we need to know is that Deku is holding back Shigaraki with his bare hands who is somewhere beneath Injured All-Might, so I would say Deku is currently about physically equal to SaS and Shigaraki with no additional quirks...and we're still missing the power that matched ALL of the quirks. We have the spies of AFO trying to keep the evacuation blocks Nezu made (Good job Nezu that's 3 hackers now.) in the way of all of the big fights happening above them with Gunhead, Tetsu, Kendo, and DEATH ARMS stopping them and saving people. The retiree inspired by watching the now UNSTOPPABLE Deku fight has reignited his passion for saving lives. Endeavor admitted he respected his grit and will to strive forward and was saddened by his retirement. (And he's also a freaking OX of a man.) And like that Skeptic's hold on the hero's materials is over but the block has stayed immobile even with the loss of the spy. Dabi meanwhile has been condensing his fire ever since figuring out Flashfire Phosphor...and now we're moving EVEN FURTHER into the absurdity of the fire power of the Todoroki's. Shoto about a red star of heat, Endeavor a yellow star, and Dabi a BLUE star. He's got thermonuclear heat condensed in the middle of him right now and they say incinerate...but they mean VAPORIZE 5 km. There will be NOTHING left if he explodes. His core is as hot as a nuke. HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DEGREES KELVIN. HOW IS THERE OXYGEN ANYWHERE NEAR HIM WITH THAT KIND OF FIRE AND HEAT. AND we still need an absolute MIRACLE to stop Prime AFO from getting involved in Deku's fight with Shigaraki to top it off! Deku is only a match for Shigaraki when he's NOT using quirks with MAYBE a few quirks for the 7 additional quirks. He has NOTHING for Prime AFO and if AFO takes over Shigaraki in full he stands even LESS chance to HIM using all quirks. So what's left? All-Might has worked out a plan for Dabi. Get Shoto and Iida on the move to face Dabi again. Iida, you're CRAZY fast. So run. Iida's recipro turbo is measured at top speed around Mach 28 halfway 5 minutes into the 10 minute booster with an accelerating and decelerating time leading up and winding down. And I'm betting with all the training that's happened since season 5 Iida has at LEAST increased the low points at the start and finish, but Iida is also practically FLYING so I'm also wondering if he pulled his engines out again for that. (In the manga he's running on the walls of skyscrapers shattering their windows as he steps and that is some PRECISION at the speed they're moving to time those steps. But he was floating BEFORE they took off too! Flying might not be off of Iida's power coverage!) So this CAN get Iida to the Gunga field...save for the giant fire field he can't go into. Shoto hops on his back and has been refining his ice shaping for some time and makes an ICE JET to make the accelerating THAT much faster. It's time for them to go for ANOTHER big power push for the kids. And Stain who faced Iida and marked him unworthy before now smiles as he sees him practice true altruism in the face of a nuclear explosion. Stain is proven wrong in his actions as the man he was unable to kill in Hosu is now an INCREDIBLY powerful and selfless hero living up to his brother's name and at this point surpassing him. Iida is going to freaking YEET Todoroki like a true hero. But then there is the biggest hype for me all episode and I thought this was going to finish off the episode not be the halfway point. This entire time All-Might has been planning the last counter attacks for Dabi, you may be wondering where he is. It's nowhere major. He has decided to put a 200 year grudge match to bed as he goes and tries to INTERCEPT ALL FOR ONE. You can feel the history of every passing moment as he simply waits to be seen. Remembering the two fights that came before over their long 40 years of history with OFA. He has protected Deku from the bloody history of OFA and KNOWING his fate may well ALREADY be sealed with Nighteye's foresight being in place, the timing being in place of 7 years past his major injury, the opponent being NO MORE FITTING for the role he has to commit to. But he faces it with a freaking smile. He's going to protect his son, he's going to get every last shot in he can on this immortal FREAK that an army of hero's could not. All-Might is a ONE MAN ARMY stockpile energy access or not with a willpower like that. The vast energy amount I still believe resides in him but he can't use it with his body so beaten to hell already and missing SO MANY organs. But he's gotten help for what he plans to do. This high tech car he's had and this mysterious suitcase he's carried since the rogue arc...starts to transform. Well...that is TWO Iron Man devices from the avengers. All-Might has gone from being Superman passed the torch to his son, and is now going to be Iron Man. He has been COMPLETELY off the radar of AFO in this entire war and now stands as EXACTLY the fight he wants as AFO is grinning EAR TO EAR to see his archnemesis. WHAT A FREAKING LEGEND. But the fight goes on for Gunga. Dabi and Endeavor are colliding. Endeavor has lead Dabi away from the Twice copy storm so people can move more freely. And he stares at the practical CORPSE of his son. He's just a NIGHTMARE to look at and the only thought Touya has now is just MURDER. ERUPT EVERYTHING and wipe out Endeavor. Look at him in the eyes causing him the biggest nightmare he can. All on this GIGANTIC blue fire landscape that annihilates everything. They are on the surface of a blue star on EARTH. And Endeavor wonders how has this guy POSSIBLY held himself together....and honestly thank GOODNESS this conversation of an awakening comes from Endeavor. Because the WEIRDEST THING happens right here in the manga instead as it cuts to Mr Compress and Geten chatting in prison. And Geten starts talking about his family lineage in the Himura clan...so basically he is related to Rei Todoroki. And he talks about how the family has multiple factions that have stayed a practical royal class of family and built their family the same way. And the family factions would unite to create thicker bloodlines. And it was practically the death of the clan when they started selling off main family to keep their wealth afloat. And because of that, it's not at all impossible to reason that a hidden quirk may emerge from their bloodline having a quirk awakening. If you know anything about royalty bloodlines for the past...several hundred to thousand years, he's talking about there being a lot of a word I can't write in comments that starts with "i" and that is...REALLY weird and would've broken the tension of this episode quite a bit. Basically it's just like the Fey clan from Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney in structure. Geten just decides to chat with Mr Compress randomly after the big All-Might "I Am Here" speech about this and THIS is why all now FOUR of Endeavor's kids have the ice quirk. So I think it's better a fun fact situation than a let's interrupt three of the biggest fights in the show. I can only describe as what happens when Touya's revealed in life or death to have awakened the ice fire quirk of Shoto is Endeavor to accept he needs to take this nightmare away from his family and die with what he created when the answer was always there from the beginning to just stick with his son, and NONE OF THIS would have happened. Everyone deciding...more so to comfort Touya and convince him to stop what they can...before they ALL die as a family. All trying to stop the nightmare together as they want to take responsibility for their contributions, only to be saved by Shoto who will stop at NOTHING to properly stop ALL OF IT. Let's just spare me the effort of measuring something that is NOT AT ALL possible to measure. All I can say is what LIKELY happened is once the ice and fire matched, an explosion occurred that Shoto and Endeavor subsided with their fire. Somehow, someway, it's beyond science but the powers to do it are there so I'll shrug my shoulders and say yeah I got freaking nothing. Once it all subsides everyone is in a pile scarred for life physically, mentally, emotionally, and Endeavor having resolved the threat for everyone else as a hero. Starts apologizing. For EVERYTHING. He WANTS to hear Touya say that he hates him because he deserves it. He just wants to hear his son talk. Everyone walks away with the same scars. Touya got the worst of all, and Shoto who is not responsible for ANY of the nightmare just gets to free his family of what just happened. Freed at last. And free to move forward. All of them.

Also one FANTASTIC touch I loved to death is Shoto tripping on himself and running across the finish line on nothing but a pure desire to do right by those that supported him, EXACTLY like Deku did in the obstacle race in season 2. What an AMAZING detail.

What a spectacular episode! Since everyone else is pointing out the changes to the opening and talking about how amazing the Todoroki reunion was, I'll just mention this: All Might remembering Deku asking whether a quirkless person can become a hero here was the moment I realized that question was for All Might's character arc and not Deku's. All Might was the one who needed to question what makes a hero at the beginning of the series and whether only people with power can be heroes. Deku was always a hero, even quirkless, and we saw that as he ran out to save Bakugo. Absolutely loved that it was the beginning of All Might's character arc, especially when the mentor character is typically devoid of going through a major character arc like that.

spoiler free: this fire ep cover the last 6 ch of ch 385 to ch 390 (ch 388 - 390 were quite short due to horikoshi being ill at the time) , seriously the entire studio team continue to adapt the manga amazingly if i remember correctly the s1 ost was first used when iida was running to get help from the teacher in usj arc i think the track for endeavor vs dabi in this ep is a remix version of dabi theme Back when all might was shown holding a suitcase in ch 384_ we were all theorising what could be inside the three main theorise was an amoured suit, eri rewind bullet, or a photo of the shimura family (as some predicted he was going to go the shiggy fight to help deku bring out tenko personality) the reveal of dabi cyrokenesis abality to make a ice jet was hype as hell and when we saw stain, we thought he was going to witness dabi defeat and aknowledge shoto and more importanly iida as heroes at the time i thought dabi and endeavor was going to die, endeavor because of his dream and toya because of his messed up body and i thought they were both going up into the sky and self destructing taking them both out anime added the anime extended the visual of dabi posing and added the crack appearing of dabi body the anime added alot of extra detail throughout the ep like the ice particles around iida armour and heat mark showing the speed that they were going anime removed: the anime removed the robot which transported rei to the blast zone melting while doing the terminator thumbs up anime removed the entire beginning of ch 387 which foreshadows dabi ice awakening

To me, most anime opening spoilers feel like much bigger spoilers once you’ve already seen what happens. Without context, a lot of these blatant spoilers don’t really matter because you don’t know any of the context and story developments to get to these places. They just build hype for what’s to come. I’ve never felt like I was spoiled on a big twist in a show from an opening.

I think you're tremendously overestimating how much people pay attention to the OP. The reason they recommended YOU don't watch the opening is because you watch them frame by frame. If you don't dissect the opening, you barely notice the spoilers

Technically dabi did have it since the beginning. His "awakening" is described as hysterical strength. Which is strength your body always has but is just not capable of using and handling without injuring yourself. So dabi technically has always had it. His body clearly just couldn't handle it

I'm lawyering for Gabe here. I think he should have totally gotten a Mass Save for the Civilians and a Key Play for protecting the heroes. Because if he nukes everyone, low-key, there's no guarantee that the Twice army doesn't wipe everyone else out. Especially if Toga feels a type of way about her friends dying around her again.

Fun Fact: Gentle and Lady Nagant weren't in the opening before. They were added to the opening the episode after they showed up 😊 originally it was only Death Arms, the Toga-Twice clones, Mirio, Monoma & Aizawa, and Stain unsheathing his katana! Still full of spoilers though.

Okay, so first thing first: the last adapted chapters in this episode was called ‘Todoroki Shouto: Rising’ as the continuation of his ‘Origin’ chapter/episode, but this time the studio broke their tradition of using these as episode titles, sadly. 2. This episode adapted 5.5 chapters, so some bits and pieces were cut, including a scene with Geten and Mr. Compress talking in jail, and Geten explaining that he belongs to the Himura clan (Rei’s family). The clan wished to preserve and strengthen their Ice quirk, so they used to marry into the family to avoid diluting the quirk genes. Basically, Rei and Geten come from a family of incestuous eugenics (who are also bigoted towards mutants), and it’s why the Ice gene is so strong in Todoroki family. 3. As far as I remember, manga’s translation of Touya’s words before Shouto showed up is ‘If this was so simple a thing, then why?.. Why not sooner?..’ In the anime subs it sounds like Dabi realises only right now that he wanted everyone in his family to acknowledge him, but in the manga it sound more like after getting what he wanted so much, he’s sad that it took him dying twice to make his family look at him.

as a big fan of endeavor , shoto i was in tears. the animation was nothing like the entire season had shown yet, the buildup was great. i never thought id like this episode more than ep 8 "2 flashfires" which i was waiting for 1.5 yrs. wild 3rd last ep. i know what the next 2 fights are and i think we'll conclude them both this season and both episode should have just as good animation im hoping. some new ending stills in the ending for toya shoto. i am here applies for anyone in the episode and maybe symbolises what all might wanted to be for everyone and what every mha citizen learns from allmight. they left out geten himura scene from the episode who talks about ice quirk when dabi shows rei's quirk. and the ep 8 scene of dabi running home just like shoto running to his goal is great to see here but wasnt there in ep 8 sadly. they changed the sad scene for a lost unhinged scene of dabi drifting through streets and sanity maybe

I have to say. Even tough most stuff you said is actually spoiled in the oppening, Nagant and Gentle frames are not in the opening until they appear in the anime. Those two plotpoints in particular where preserved even if you watched the opening from the beggining.

Going in blind, I honestly did not analyze the intro enough, and most of the shots looked like "cool action shots for intro" and meant nothing to me. I understand the SPOILER complaints, but tbh I wasn't spoiled one bit as a casual viewer.

The intro isn't as spoilery as you're acting...at least for me. I watched the intro every week and I never noticed Gentle or Nagant. Sure I saw Stain but given his appearance last season that really didn't tell me much. And all the others were flashes of moments so I don't think it was super spoilery. EDIT: Now I know why I didn't notice them in the intro until after they were revealed, it's because they weren't in the intro until they were shown in the episode. I just went back and watched the first time this intro was used and they weren't in it.
