My only regret, Lizard, is that I only really started following you at the end of 2023/beginning of 2024. All of your content is oh so very much right up my alley, and as I consider starting my own cosplay journey soon (TM), I've appreciated just learning more about the space and how it's shifted and changed over the course of internet culture and overall culture's weirdly changing times. And it's interesting (thought unfortunately not necessarily surprising) to see the "serving the nebulous confusing algorithm overlords sucks" sentiment in yet another sub-culture of the content creation game. I have to say that when you'd initially mentioned this video during the crafting stream(s), I wasn't 100% sold on the whole "professional cosplay isn't a thing," but very quickly into it I realized I had changed my mind some point into agreeing with the "you can monetize aspects of cosplay, but that era of cosplayers making their primary income from _just_ cosplaying" point regarding how it's more of a "being a cosplay content creator" rather than a "professional cosplayer." Am I possibly rambling and/or repeating myself cause I really should get to bed? Maybe! (Also we love a rant about capitalism, am always here for that)

I remember watching that stream from Fawnina and appreciating how raw they were with their audience. It was heartbreaking to hear how much they were going through behind the scenes, especially when they had been such a core part of the cosplay content I consumed at the time. I'd at the time idolised the thought of being a "pro cosplayer" and was completely looking at the potential of it with rose tinted glasses and not the actual reality of what that could mean. I love your long form content and how you approach each topic. This video is so interesting - I really like your frank, realistic, and informative approach. Being self-employed is a terrifying feat. It's never just one job, its dozens. My family owned an art gallery for a few years, and it's so hard to express to people that no, it's not just renting a building and hanging art. It's also networking with artists, musicians, and gtaphic designers. It's event planning and social media management. It's cleaning and taxes and insurance and so, so much more. If you're lucky you'll enjoy most of it, but there's always parts you won't, and dealing with those can be remarkably difficult. I'm pretty sure i had a point to this comment but I've lost it at this point. Ginny recommended this video, and I found it fascinating. I really understand how coming to terms with the parts of the job that suck first is important to your well-being. And I really liked learning from you about how the hobby you get to indulge in isn't the job. The job is all the behind the scenes work that makes that hobby sustainable. One can still indulge in their hobby in their free time, at a much slower rate, and make amazing things that equal the things that the full time hobbyists make. Your videos have sparked so much joy and passion and really encouraged me to get back into cosplay. I watch your videos at work, where I spend all day making things in a medium I used to love before doing it for a living sucked all the joy out of it. And for a while there I'd kinda been in the weeds for all creative endeavors due to work. But you know what? Every time I watch one of your videos, I get so psyched up to go home that night and work on a cosplay that I love. You bring that passion and love into your videos and inspire that joy for cosplay in your viewers. Thank you, and know that even though making a living means you're forced to look at the bigger trends, down here in the individual comments and interactions, you're making a huge impact for joy.

Another absolute banger from my favorite lizard. I understand the frustration and general yucky feeling of being a Maker and then having to face the ordeal of Social Media Creating. I’m a writer and a cosmetologist, I don’t really want to be a social media marketer or a short form video editor. But at the same time, I really want to make enough to pay my bills. i'm glad your a cosplayer. sometimes when I'm in a lull with crafting I get really excited to see your video pop up. sometimes my lulls hit me hard and just seeing someone really excited for what they are making really puts my in a better mood. it Is also super cute that you're making something for your family, I'm making something for a friend I haven't talked to in a long time for his own cosplay that he wants to do one day.

You've been instrumental in my own journey of getting into sewing! It has been always something I was curious about growing up and loved watching my godmother do. Then over the years i got into fandoms, anime and since lockdown ttrpg's, three spaces filled with costume making. But it wasn't untill i hit my burnout last year and was home for several months, trying to reconstruct who i was outside of working that I gave it a chance. Still very much in beginner stages but getting to go to cons and renfaires in mostly selfmade outfits in 2024 has been amazing. And you have been a big part of that in entertainment and inspiration! I went back and watched Sarah's video, too, and I'm glad to see that so many creators are talking about these topics more recently! I've only locked into making cosplays in the last couple years, but I definitely have seen the shift over the years in the cosplay community/fandom culture from hobby to commodified hobby, where it's a lot more focus on content creation and sometimes clout chasing & "beauty paegant" mindsets that started to make it lose it's magic of just loving the fandoms/characters/etc. that we love and wanting to showcase that. Another great video, thank you so much for all the effort, time, and dedication you put in! ❤
