I literally had this rant in a FB about 2 days ago. It tickles me how people somehow get from ' I have to put in effort and work' to - 'therefore its a scam'.

I sure agree with you Tyson, it is not a fast straight forward road to success... rather it is a road that will be difficult and have roadblocks and potholes and roadkill and wild animals that charge at you, but you just have to learn to maneuver around it all and sometimes even take the off road which is not easy at all, but you have to keep your eyes on the prize!

I do agree with you on the fact that most folks want the easy, no sweat, no stress means to wealth, success and financial freedom but the lady wasn't too far from the truth. Most business "gurus" or so tend to market or promote their ideas, concepts and successes like all one needs is an "easy button" and the money rolls in like magic. Then when the person joins, signs up or shows some interest in the business opportunity or idea they are promoting, their inbox or social media pages are overwhelmed, flooded and overloaded with endless webinars, videos, seminars, ebooks, strategies, methods, techniques that they expect the person to absorb overnight or immediately before they achieve the same type of success they advertise. This, I presume is what the lady was referring to. It would help if it's stated in the beginning or initially that there's a lot of work, sweating and preparation involved before anything happens or changes rather than hit folks in the face with lots of sizzle and sparks with nothing behind it. I am generally speaking and not referring to you per se so you don't get offended or misinterpret my response.

Perhaps part of the problem is that experts (folk who have learned the skills, tried different things, and put in the practice) make stuff look easy and, therefore, like it doesn't take any effort.

I think you're right, Tyson - though in the case of network marketing I also think it is partly down to how the opportunity is presented and how people are sometimes recruited, that gives them unrealistic expectations. There's an interesting comparison with Fairy Tales - which often seem to be tales of 'rags to riches', and the idea that there's some kind of magic wand that can transform things. But even in those stories it's never a straightforward journey, and the characters have to tackle various obstacles along the way!
