If I remember correctly, a major criticism about this case is that Phoenix is out of character with how he is more on the ball. This case was actually created after the original Trial and Tribulations was finished so we get a version of Phoenix that is technically done with his character development, while still being in the first game.
@BHox012 ай бұрын
Honestly the only part that stands out as ooc is the very end of the final day in court where he sets his trap without cluing in the player. Most of the rest of the time he's still either bumbling along or pushing forward without thinking about the consequences of what he's doing. It's also clear he hasn't gone through his 2-4 development yet. On that note, 1-5 does a pretty decent job of bringing the gap going into JFA for Edgeworth' development, especially with his exchange with Lana at the end spelling it out so overtly.

One of the criticisms for this case is that Phoenix is too cocky/confident too early in the series, but to be honest if I happened to stumble my way through a case against this guy who runs perfect trials and I only won because the prosecutor didn't account for the off chance that I had a metal detector, I'd be pretty damn cocky too

Wasn't Gant a Detective? He didn't seem to be an attorney in the past, and neither was Lana until she got directly promoted into chief prosecutor
@FacelessPorcelainАй бұрын
@@kristophesiem5336 Yeah, but the police and prosecutors work really closely together and generally tend to be pretty buddy buddy. Not just in this series, just in general. It makes sense if you think about it. The police arrest someone because they think they did it, and the prosecutors work to prove them right. You'd basically have both the police (Gant) and the prosecutor (Von Karma) working together to try to get a guilty verdict. Von Karma in the court room, Gant in the field (investigation and the like).
@sarafontanini70512 ай бұрын
I do love how this one case for once phoenix isn't bluffing or pulling shit out of his ass, or jsut beign lucky, like with von karma. Instead, like edgeworth had against him in the past, phoenix laid a trap for gant. a sneaky trap to get Gant to unwittingly confess to his crimes, and use a law that Gant had been abusing a fair bit in this trial to boot. All to ensure Gant couldn't get away. THis is the first time we get to see a devious side to Phoenix, and it's glorious.
@LunaLongbottomLove2 ай бұрын
The only thing that's too bad is that since this case was written after the rest of the trilogy was already finished his development skillwise here seems a bit inconsistent (imo) he seems very competent here (ergo the trap) like someone who has already had three games worth of growth, and then in Justice for All it almost seems like a backslide where he's once again a rookie flying by the seat of his pants and getting by on luck (because obviously Rise from the Ashes used to not exist) Feels harsh to say I think game one Phoenix isn't skilled enough yet to have pulled off that maneouver with Gant but 🤷♀ in the very next case chronologically he's bumbling through bc he can't remember what a cross-examination is (yeah yeah, I know, ~amnesia~, but it's still a very funny juxtaposition to me, lol) Oh well, I do love the case so I'm willing to overlook the plotholes

So, for those who don't know, this trial wasn't originally part of the first Ace Attorney game. (Hoping I'm remembering the details here correctly.) The first Ace Attorney trilogy came out on Game Boy Advance, but then was rereleased for the DS. At that time they added the fifth case to the first game. There are some aspects of this case, such as the way Edgeworth seems to be taking things so harshly, that might seem a bit out of place after such an impressive victory, but had to be included because of the situation in the second game, which was originally written with the intent of being after the case with Manfred Von Karma, which much more understandably and obviously left Edgeworth distressed. I think they still pulled it off pretty well, and it is an AMAZING case, but if anyone thought it seemed a little strange that's because it was made after the fact to slot into this time period. I won't elaborate on what the situation with Edgeworth is in the second game, as that would be spoilers, but I feel like it's not spoilery to say that Edgeworth does have a part in the second game and its not divorced from the events here in the first game.

This case is such a mixed bag for me. On one hand, the case is really fun and engaging, and you feel like a genius for exposing the conspiracy behind the scenes. On the other hand, because it was written after the third game in the trilogy was finished and only added for the DS port of the game, we see parts of Phoenix and Miles’s character that make little sense. Edgeworth acts like he’s had a conscience and moral compass as a prosecutor from the start of his career, when his actions in Turnabout Sisters blatantly show us otherwise. This case is too early in the timeline for him to be this good of a person. As for Phoenix, he makes plays (mainly the last one against Gant) in this case that he did not have the skill to pull off after the end of Turnabout Goodbyes. He levels up in this case and doesn’t stay at that level in the next game.
@allanrayy2 ай бұрын
Counterpoint! (This is my favorite case of the trilogy so bear with me) The "impossible trick" he pulled off with evidence law was slowly presented to him by both Gant and Lana: The latter with the book, obviously, and since Phoenix is no dumbass he figured out what she was trying to say; Gant, on the other hand, pulled off the exact same trick on Miles, with the report about the Evidence Room murder. And again, Phoenix is no dumbass, so he realized he could pull off the exact same thing on Gant! So yeah, to me it's not out of character at all; he didn't come up with it on the spot, he had a little push in the right direction and a good example! ☝️😎 And Edgeworth already showed a good moral compass in case 3 with Vasquez, and case 4 made it even more apparent. Edit: grammar and added Edgeworth comment
@andrewfox56632 ай бұрын
Edgeworth literally manipulates both the bell boy and White for the sake of winning in Turnabout Sisters. Between that, the speech about his all-guilty policy before the second trial day of Turnabout Sisters, and every pro-Von Karma thing he says in Turnabout Goodbyes, him claiming that he’s never touched evidence a mere month after Turnabout Goodbyes feels like a lie. I will agree with you about the Phoenix part. Even if it feels like an AA3 level of thinking from Phoenix, especially because he presents it so calmly as opposed to panicking and having an aha moment, he was given enough info and context to use that evidence as cunningly as he does.
@o0Evo0oАй бұрын
Edgeworth in Turnabout Sisters is a mildly an amoral jackass, but he's never actually been as bad as the rumors around him say- and this case shows a lot of those rumors came from the SL-9 case, which he had minimal impact on (he was brought on after Marshall died, and all the evidence fraud was Gant and Lana). Which tracks with what we actually experience dealing with him- eg the updated autopsy report feels like a dick move, but it's just Edgeworth catching and resolving a contradiction before the player can (and a side effect of the super rushed trial schedule). Also, Edgeworth here is kind of just burning everything down. He's decided he's leaving and everyone's trying to scapegoat him so fuck it he'll take on the Chief of Police

I love how just about every reaction to Gant anyone ever has can be summarized as "ah, not this goofy ass boi😮💨" or "Holy balls, this dude scares the crap out of me😱"

Laughing so hard when the pot & the Badger showed up 🤣 Also fun fact: This case was made for the release of Ace Attorney on Nintendo DS. There are apparently 2 reasons why, to showed what can they do with DS at that time(The powder, replaying the video, & the luminol. This elements will showed up again on the 4th game. Why no new cases for the 2nd & 3rd game? Unfortunately i don't know why) & to connect the story between AA1 & 2(This 2 games have 1 "hole" regarding the story. But even without this case, connection is there, this just add another theory & conclusion as for "why"). May you also have fun in Justice For All 👍

56:06 The single coolest looking sprite in AA history. 1:06:14 Another one. 1:09:33 This one... Yeah this one just hits me. It's like Gina's crying smile in GAA, I just love how genuine it feels. It's just... Genuinely one of the best smile sprites in the series.

I like how she reacts when edgeworth puts a letter of resignation eveb though she finished the trilogy. Unless this video is after she played case 4.

I think this video is from when she was playing through the first game, so she hadn’t played the rest of the trilogy yet at that point. (I could be wrong, though!)
